@@LooknFishy Hey, I was wondering what the whole idea is behind protecting the streams by means of keeping spots secretive. Is it just pressure and keeping less people who eat and mistreat fish away? Ive never really had a fishing spot hidden or kept a secret from me from any stranger until I got into fly fishing.
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
@@DersABigBuck I'm careful to protect specific streams...in this case it was a gift and not mine to share. Generally, I feel like sharing an area, rather than specific stream is a better idea. Most of these smaller streams would not be so special if they were fished hard which is what I've seen happen after being shared on social media....plus these are gifts. There's just no way of knowing who you're sharing the gift with on social media. I'm definitely a believer in creating more advocates for our sport, the outdoors in general which I believe will protect these resources in the long term. Just cautious with specific small streams which could be overwhelmed with the added pressure that comes from social media!

G'Day from Australia, I always enjoy watching your videos. You give plenty of tips and info in a very laid back way and no glaring peace shattering music! Lovely looking stream and trout. I often underline my rods. I have a 5/6wt rod that I fish with anything from the rated 5/6 wt line down to .7 mm floating running line when I'm nymphing. I especially like using that last line as it casts a dry/dropper very well and it makes a very cheap but good nymph line. Cheers, Steve

Nice video! Since you're talking boots, care to expound a bit more on the Orvis Ultralight wading boots? I'm looking for a pair of boots that can double as hiking/ wet wading footwear when I hit the mountains and have to do a little walking just to get streamside. If you have any other recommendations, I'd love to hear them. Again, I dig the videos, especially the upland small stream action out west.
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why I got them. Hiking and wet wading trips they don't offer the same comfort...foam or padding of a hiking boot but they are just as light and possibly more durable since they are a wading boot. The toe box is wide but not so much your feet slide. I got them true to size and wear liners and thick hiking socks. The biggest thing is they dry really quick which is nice on long hiking/wading trips!

Another great video. Drew, how long do you spend at one spot on a river. Lets say you are in a beautiful target rich stream or river then how long do you spend in each spot before you move on to the next spot versus being in a stream or river that is not yielding any fish ?
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
It really varies on traffic, bugs, time of day etc...but in general I fish fast and like to hike. I think seeing as much of the stream and it's surroundings are just important to me as the fishing. But when I catch a fish, I camp until I feel confident I put them down or decide I want to explore more of the stream. I'm definitely a fast fisher!

How far down in the water column does that first emerger you were fishing with get to? The one I use basically sits a little below where a dry fly sits so I technically don’t need an indicator in relatively calm water. I noticed your length of leader below your indicator is pretty long so I was thinking that emerger goes pretty deep.
@briancramer62503 жыл бұрын
Another great vid! Were you drifting that emerger in the surface film or sinking it?

I fished it behind a small bh nymph in the beginning. Then just below the surface off a dry.

In my neck of the woods, creeks like that flow mostly through private property, and fishing them is trespassing.
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
So that's partially true. However, Wisconsin is a "keep your feet wet state", stream access law is if you access the stream from public property, you are not trespassing, as long as you stay in the water...with a few exceptions that allow for exiting the stream. But in all my vids I was on a public easement purchased from the state or local TU chapter. Here's a link to help clarify... dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/Fishing/questions/access.html
@allenj58653 жыл бұрын
@@LooknFishy Most places, rivers, creeks, and other waterways have to be "navigable" in order to retain public access rights. Walking in/or wading those which aren't navigable is considered trespass.
@LooknFishy3 жыл бұрын
Definitely some confusion which is why I included the link for those that have questions. But in general, I read in the link below...."A good general rule is that any water body that has an official name, or is shown as a water way with a solid or dashed blue line on the topographic maps and has a defined bed and bank is likely to be public, that any named stream on a topo map is considered "navigable"... So I interpret it and had it explained differently but not going to add to the confusion...those that decide to visit WI should check out the link and do the research themselves! I was also only using easements so I'm good! dnr.wisconsin.gov/sites/default/files/topic/Fishing/Questions_PublicAccessFactSheet.pdf
