This is part 40, the last video in the 2-month camping road trip which started in June on a small stream in New Mexico, a couple weeks in Colorado, then to Idaho before ending mid-August in Wyoming. It was such an epic, not used lightly, trip!

Nice tour man that looks like a lot of fun. I especially like the way you wet your hands before handling the fish that is so important to keep that protective coating on their bodies. You seem to consistently practice nice and gentle release.

Excellent video series. Enjoyed every one. Thanks for taking us along, and really appreciate all the work you put into making these videos. Just getting started here in Wyoming before the run off starts, but hopefully toward the end of June we’ll be able to start going regularly. Looks like the water is still projected to be low, but hopefully better than the last two years. Good luck, God bless and safe travels my friend.

Wonderful video...again. I'd like to know more of what that fellow said about mountain lions. I go camping/hiking a lot with the kiddos and I AM DEATHLY afraid of mountain lions. Also loved how giddy you were...like a kid at Xmas. I was laughing....then, starred rolling on the floor with: "now that's a sexy looking hole!" 😂 Stay safe out there.

He was a wealth of information...really wish I could have hung out with him longer. He basically said, they were his biggest concern since you never see them, but not to worry if you're seeing deer. In his opinion, as long as the deer are abundant, people have nothing to worry about.

I’ve really enjoyed coming along on your fishing trips. I was able to do something similar in the early 80’s in the Jackson Hole area. I had a friend working for the Forest Service at the time. He would tell how to get to streams they would see while planting trees and I would go fish them. On the weekends he, I and another would go back and hit the best ones. I was able to do this for 3 months before I had to get back to work. Great memories. Thanks for keeping up with all of this.

I usually start around 2.5ft and adjust as needed to get down but not snag on rocks or the bottom. But there's no science just a feel. On this stream it was stained so I didn't adjust much...they fish were much more active and willing to come to the dropper...in clear water many times you have to get the fly to them!

Really awesome stuff Drew. Planning a similar western trip in 2023 and it would be great to have a video on safety precautions you take for widelife in the west. Growing up in Ireland we did not have lions or bears to deal with :-) just lots of native wild trout!! But last few visits home in IRE every fishery worth anything is private and some worth nothing just looking for tourist $ day passes, so sad 😢 ... fishing my current home waters in mostly Pennsylvania, and some surrounding states is awesome but sometimes very crowded in the better fisheries.... retirement is great 👍☺️

Hi Drew, catching up on your vids. Their great. Your very observant and you catch things other than just fish. What was your take on the silt in this stream? It doesn’t seem to affect the fishery which it usually does as it covers and smothers insect life usually. Is this stream below a dam? Logging? Mining? Fire? None the less, fisheries seems happy.

Most of the good fishing I have here in California is over four hours away. Once my truck is all ready ill be starting my new adventures I would also like to start going out of state as well I use to live in utah and I want to make trip to the green. Have you ever fished little hole on green river? Im sure you have thats one of my favorites dont like crowding much thats why i dig your videos you seem to find good fishing in isolated spots. Anyway you inspire me to get off my ass and go fish im not getting any younger. If your ever in cali hit me up. I live in Amador county can take you to some good spots. So I basically travel out west to target fish on the surface as much as I can. In Arkansas we have nymphing pretty much all year. I like to do something other than what I've done here. Same reason I don't throw many streamers on my trips out west. Nymphing would certainly be more effective.

Very cool man! Glad you did this. You showed there's lots of fish to catch, and places to go. Looking forward to next season and if you'll keep your truck, of have a different one!

Thank you! Happy to share. Funny you mention my truck because the dealership that I had planned on buying one from called 2 days ago and it is on the lot right now. They even ordered an ARE shell b/c they knew I needed one...decisions!

Thank you Drew. Your videos (and tying more flies than I’ll ever use) helped keep me going during the long Melbourne lockdown. Been back on the water since October and the trout are fat and healthy and the fishing has been good. And I feel rejuvenated as a result. Are snakes a hazard when you’re hiking through the bush? That’s what we’re on the lookout for around the rivers. Seasons Greetings from the land down under.

Could you say that for a lot of these streams you could access as a day trip from a nearby town or main road that has an established campground? I’ve got a Jeep that we tow behind a 40ft motorhome so I can drive the roads but can’t bring our big rig to your spots since we full time and it’s our home now.

There are plenty of Forest Service campgrounds that would make for an easy place to park an RV and day trip since you have a jeep!

Lots in Idaho! Didn't include any b/c I try to keep the vids under 20 mins and could never make myself replace a cutt with a whitefish. Considering a separate video on them tho.

Holy smokes brother, such a beautiful stream, weather looks awesome. Incredible fishing. What more could you ask for? I did have a question, is it all fly fishing only? I grew up using spinners but would love to learn fly fishing. I know some excellent areas here on the Oregon coast. You should think about coming and checking it out. Many rivers and streams I love to hike in to and your welcome anytime brother. Thanks for the video.👍🏼

Thank you. No not to my knowledge but I never really check the regs since I fish barbless and practice catch n release. Most mountain streams aren't regulated like the ones closer to populated or popular sections.

Great job Drew! Have really enjoyed the series. I've been mapping out my full summer adventure but retirement is a couple years away yet. If you ever stumble across a Kansas guy wandering around Northern N.M./Conejos valley area with a big stupid grin on his face stop and have a warm meal and cold brew. Here's to tight lines and dry waders!

What a great series Drew! That was quite an amazing couple months of fishing & camping!! A quick question for you - I love throwing hopper/dropper too but it gets a little tedious when I find that I've gotta apply dry shake even to a foam hopper on a fairly regular basis (especially if I'm catching a lot of fish!). Are you having to apply dry shake constantly or is your double foam keep them floating all day (I think that's what you showed in another video)?
@LooknFishy
@LooknFishy 2 жыл бұрын
The double foam definitely floats well but I still have to add some shake/gel and I'll even replace it with a new one if needed. It's usually after a few fish so not constantly drying it out!
