You are a good teacher. Got my first spin Poi's & just learnt this move. Bit awkward at 1st but then came natural & couldn't stop doing it. Did bash my leg (luckily not my head...yet lol 😂) a few times. Windmill moves tomorrow & more added bruising haha 😂

Ahhh So as a Maori Poi is natural to me as it's part of my culture...so when I learn this style I learn by watching and basically experimenting. I learn instinctively. However it also means that I've rushed ahead without the relevant basic theory. I'm so glad I've decided to follow you from the start because my planes are much tidier and the theory is really, really important.

In Paris, since yersterday only the alimentation shop and some others first necessity shop are open. Monday until tuesday at noon, people went a bit crazy and lined up in front of the food stores and basically emptied them out (thanks people)! but this afternoon (at least where I'm out, the streets emptied out and this afternoon I was able to go grocerie shoping, with no line and find all my product. So that's good, I hope people will stop freaking out about the groceries, there's no reason that we'll stop being delivered! Me I'm more concerned by a whole spring, not being able to socialise, go outside and enjoy some sun & fresh air (well kinda, I'm still in the city). All one can do is hope it wont last to long... Anyway thanks for all your tutorials Drex, you're a great teacher!

Hi Drex! Thanks for your video! In Poland we have closed all schools, shopping centers (only grocery stores and pharmacy are open), borders are closed as well. People make food supplies and (if they can) have home offices. We just wait in our houses until it pass. It's okey, but people are a bit panicked. Keep in good health.

One thing that really helped me out as well with learning this move at first was that you can't keep your knees rigid. Really just bend then a bit and take steps with a slightly larger knee bend as you do the transition. This also helped me start getting the feel of dancing with the poi and performing with them for the first time, because you really start to get the feel of moving with the beat of your poi if you bend into the steps more with your knees. :)
@DrexFactor4 жыл бұрын
That is a great note! Thank you for sharing--it's been so long since I first learned a lot of this stuff that some really obvious biomechanics like this sometimes slips my mind.

I just made a cheap homemade set from tennis balls and paracord to get back into poi after 17 years. But I do have a question about the tennis balls. What does everyone think of using tennis balls? To me they do seem a little on the heavier side?
@chantellephee39644 жыл бұрын
I am a beginner and just made some out of rope and tennis balls as well cause that’s all I had in the house and the monkey ball was too hard for me with nothing to put in the middle. I have been finding it fine and managed to get this trick down today!
@dansabau77004 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this Drex! love your teaching, clear and concise. I'm gonna try and find all the possible variations of this to really get the most out of the trick: stepping in the same direction (ie. walking across the screen from left to right), turning to my left and turning to my right, reel turning behind the body both at eyeball and at foot level, tick tacking across my front and across behind me, doing the forward and backward turns at the “wrong” time, 360 turns. Any other variations of the reel turn you can think of?
