Pub rock, really that's how u describing an amazing live band. They were at there absolute best playing small venues of maybe up to 4-5000. The same as a lot of the bands that made it. If u weren't good in a pub then very free made it unless they already knew some1 in the business. A few or in fact a lot of bands especially today can't play live at all
@ceased2care Жыл бұрын
@@woody816 I saw a lot of great pub bands back in the day but never got round to seeing Dr Feelgood, even though a class mate and myself would go and sit round his house during lunch break as young teenagers in the late 70s, and amongst the Lizzy, Quo, and ACDC we'd be listening to, he'd play the odd Dr Feelgood track. I got into them more later though, when learning guitar. I've seen many, now older, rock stars playing pubs around Birmingham and the Midlands, and I'm sure that in the old school touring tradition, Dr Feelgood would have played a few pubs back then. They'd have been great in a bouncin smokey back room with beer spilling everywhere, Lee Brilleaux in his filthy lived in suit like he's been sleeping in the back of a transit van, and those great songs delivered in his and Wilko's slightly unhinged and dangerous manner. That's what I think I mean really with the world's best pub band statement. They're not only brilliant original songsmiths, but of a time and place I can't imagine us ever getting to see again. Might be just as well though, as although I get a lot of nostalgia for the 70s, there was a lot that was grim, and most of us were trying to better our circumstances as a result. If it hadn't been so, maybe some things, as glorious as they were, wouldn't have come to be. There's clearly a lot of that urgency and anger comes across in Lee's delivery and lyrics, and his appearance. I'm sure their audience would have been feeling it too, especially back then

I felt like a fool when I finally 'discovered ' this band and I was already 76 years old...wut? now I'm collecting their recorded output and love every one of their band members... odd how music and art are limited in availability...youtube is breaking down many walls.

I reckon we saw these guys at least 4/5 times in Sydney between 1983-87… Each gig was a riot. Literally. I’ve never seen a band who were consistently more pissed than their audience, but they nailed it every show. (I think 😂) It was a hot mess of tangled bodies & driving rhythms with that 12 bar blues road map that connected band and crowd so we all knew we’d get to the same place again safely. Life affirming experience which I’ll never be able to forget. Soul inspiring bone marrow crunching bliss! I turn 60 this year, thank you Lee (& all the lads) for being Doctor Feelgood. Rest in peace Lee 🙏
