I do enjoy my brain being like "hey magma core and hollow bough have similar colors in their thumbnails, so it doesn't matter which one you use lol" magma core is not yet rated for the tier list!

You forgot one crucial thing. For some reason, the ground in this area isn’t easier to mine, but makes larger holes when dug through. This includes things like dirt and fossils as well as the regular terrain, but does not include minerals.

(David Attenborough voice) Here in the caves of hoxxes, one species reigns supreme. Glyphids. These arthropod like creatures are extremely aggressive and should be avoided, another common sight is the lootbug, because of mining activities in the area these harmless creatures are quickly going extinct. Some creatures in this area have gold on them for example: the golden lootbug and of course the crassus detonator.

I think Dense Biozone and Asure Weald are the two biomes that actually makes the planet feel ''alien''. The other biomes feel plausible on earth in some capacity but the plant life found here? It's otherworldly...

@@gamecavalier3230 a lot of the life on hoxxes doesn't really make sense when you think about it. Why are there giant plants that stab you, or why do giant leaves bring you places. Why are there eyeballs in the walls or mouth breathing plants. As far as how animal life on the planet even evolved the way it did is confusing. Why do Brood Nexus' create genetically identical swarmers? How do Breeders come about? It's a game that explains some of its lore but is kinda lackluster in the explanation. It's not bad by any means and I enjoy guessing how they operate

The loading screen to the floating chunk plays for any region. Much like the altimeter and the regional map, the idea of what region is actually there is more or less a decoration to make it feel like Hoxxes is comprehensible. Exploding plants are likely spore-based, as many real exploding organisms function that way and it is quite effective. It would also explain why they come in such dense clusters. The blast is sure to catch out anything trying to feed on them, hence the scale they can reach, and any detonated simply reseed the area, resulting in the perpetuation of the species. The lack of any ocean on Hoxxes, yet the massive amount of evidence of previous water bodies and vast numbers of plants and similar, imply the entire planet is very humid, all the water evaporated long ago. This, of course, makes experiencing the warm regions that much worse, be they the Biozone (and humidity fits a rainforest well), the Bogs, or even the Magma Core.

The explosion of the exploding plants would scatter the spores very far, like a more violent puff-shroom. This explains why the ground of the biome is carpeted in them
@gagooooooooooooooo Жыл бұрын
it does actually change depending on what region your mission is in, Sandblasted's loading screen for example is a large intact side of the planet, Crystalline seems like it's near the top of the planet, but some biomes seem to share a similar loading screen
@explorianguy Жыл бұрын
the original 8 biomes each have their own loading screens that's always the same, with the addition of Azure Weald and Hollow Bough some of the loading screens were re-used

The scream the elevator plants produce when destroyed is actually the old dreadnaught death rattle, I suspect some cheeky dev just put it on the plant for shits n giggles then forgot about it
@DarkTakanuva Жыл бұрын
isn't it the same scream as when you kill one of the twins?

Yep, they ended up reusing it for the twins as well. The timeline went Dread > removed from dread (unused) > added to elevator plant > twins introduced & reused

I've always assumed this was supposed to be the games "water stage" due to the design of the landscape looking close to a reef and all the spores making it seem like you are submerged in the ocean. Those little glowing plants always reminded me of a false night sky.

The plant possibly may have air-filled cavities inside it's stem that allow it to quickly extend and retract, and when damaged, the plant kinda defloats like a balloon, producing this weird sound

I chose to believe that the exploding plants explode as a spore spreading mechanism. Perhaps the chemicals involved in the explosion double as a powerful fertiliser for the next generation of exploding plant growth.
@onebrickatatime90974 ай бұрын
Due to the massive evidence of water throughout the caves of Hoxxes iv, and the chunk blown off also seemingly having remnants of water left on it due to the rainfall, it is possible that Hoxxes iv was filled with water before the chunk was blown off, which caused much of the water to evaporate, however, leaving water on the chunk due to it being more insulated by the crust of the planet.

Coral tongues are probably inspired by the barnicles's male reproductive organ,since not only the barnicle has a very long pp in proportion to its body,but in mating time it just uses it to try and find a female barnicle by poking around. So reah,maybe the sea tongues are in reality sea wieners

several notes/theories on the wildlife here sounds like it comes from someone who has the idea that things in an environment are supposed to have purpose towards that environment. This is not true. The only purpose wildlife has, is to survive. If survival results in a bunch of other things benefiting, it is purely coincidental.
