I would add to your design a plate on the bottom with a lip that would prevent the jack from jumping out from under it because the nature of these Jack's is to travel backyards as you're jacking the car up. Your invention is really useful for doing a ton of work underneath a car because it gets the tires out of the way yet is much safer than removing the tires in case somehow it were to fall. Thanks for posting!
@jimmybare30262 жыл бұрын

@seanseoltoirАй бұрын
Well, *life* is risky -- everyone who has ever tried it has either died or is on their way to dying... 🙂 This sort of thing would not be used for extended periods, just like the floor jack that it relies upon should not be used for extended periods... It would be used to lift up the vehicle high enough that you could put proper jack stands or cribbing under the vehicle in appropriate load support locations...
@oneinthesac2 жыл бұрын
Or you could just jack it up with just the jack and accomplish the same exact thing without having a giant heavy metal bar taking up all kinds of room in the shop
@patthesoundguy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that thing is great until you need to take the wheels off. Not much you do on the front end of a car with the wheels still on.
@neoskater4202 жыл бұрын
This is true yet you still people using things to roll on to to raise there car up higher to get underneath to work on your logic is a weird one as removing the tires would be common sense to not have the bar yet here we are having to explain to you like a child why you would use it. Guess you have not worked on enough vehicles in your day yet youngster

It actually would work great when doing suspension work and car needs to be on wheels to torque everything down.

I didn't even watch the video, saw the first question and had to reply, I do it when I need to, just put on (axle) solid jack stands and let out the clutch slow, you can go thru the gears, brake, carefully because your spinning wheels have a lot of inertia in them. Didn't want you to go thru the garage wall, greenhorn. No question is stupid when still a little wet behind the ears

This is a simple and interesting device, but it is only suitable for cars with a huge ground clearance. Most modern cars are not compatible with it. The device will only work with the back where there is a void. In front, there is the suspension, the engine crankcase, and its protection, there is barely 130 mm clear. In addition, a square pipe for heavy cars needs to be reinforced with scarves from the bottom to ensure sufficient rigidity. Because even in the video you can see how the pipe bends. After 10 lifts, it will take the shape of a hemisphere.

@@gedman9527 . You are right that you should use axle stands but this is a great way to lift the car to put the axle stands in before you get under the car they make hoists that lift the whole car on four arms and they are safe. This would more than likely easily hold more than the jack could lift. If anything it is over engineered. The car probably weighs around 2,000kg which means 500kg per side on the stand, not really much for the size of the steel used.

Interesting design but I’d be hesitant to risk my life with that contraption as the ONLY thing supporting the car! I’d need additional redundancy, like a couple well placed jack stands to support the car once it’s up.
@seanseoltoirАй бұрын
You're only risking your life if you are willing to get under the vehicle that is solely supported by this device, just like if you were willing to get under a vehicle solely supported by the floor jack. How this device SHOULD be used is to get a vehicle up high enough that you can put jack stands or cribbing under the *proper* support points and THEN remove this device so that you have room to work.

Nice first attempt. But it would be more useful for cars that can't move under own power if the 4 rods were wider, and are inserted into receivers. This way you position it under the car, insert the 4 rods front and aft of tires, and lift. Lower the car elsewhere or when done, pull out 4 rods, remove the assembly and jack.

Good idea, but can’t see the point of it, you can’t do any work on the wheels, brakes or suspension. You can’t get the engine ‘splash guard’ of to do any work on the underside of the car, like draining the oil, changing the oil filter (if it’s on the bottom’) and all because of a big steel bar. Nice welding BTW.
@DIY.Invented Жыл бұрын
The idea is to lift the car up and put two jacks each side and work free

But one jack will do that, I’ve been doing that for over 60 years, works for me and the rest of the world.

One question!! What good does this do. You can't change the tire. You can't service the wheels or breakers !! Very nice fab work for sure , just don't get the point!! Other than that, great job!!!
@bradlangle8072 жыл бұрын
Love the idea, so why no just make it jack up both side but make it catch the shock or the axel or some other point that succure enough to lift both side. Your fab work was very impressive. Maybe just change your point of contact. Then you won't have to brive the vehicle over it and you could service everything under the vehicle without to hack up one side at a time!! Just my opinion brother!! Over all tho, great fab work!!

Put jack stands under the frame of the car.
@lanpartyanimal52152 жыл бұрын
1) It will allow you get the car higher off the ground because the jack starts lifting the car at a lower point in the jack's range. 2) It keeps you from damaging the side seam on a unibody chassis trying to lift it. 3) Once you have it at the required height use jack stands or wood cribbing to support it.
@raulmolina46802 жыл бұрын

You should weld some plates / spacers on the bottom of the steel round bar pieces so that it can fully sit on the concrete floor when the vehicle is attempting to drive onto it. Having it only supported / balanced in the center makes it unstable during the initial loading process. Another option might be to put a 2x10 or 2x12 that was around 18" long on each side with slots cut in it for the 2 steel bars to fit into, thus preventing them from moving. They would need to be spaced so that the tire was fully on the wood before contacting the steel bars in the slots. From the look of it, I think a single 2x10 or 2x12 piece would provide enough space to keep the lift from moving, but if not, a second layer could easily be added, just stairstep the leading edges of the wood pieces so that you're only needing to go over a 1.5" bump each time.

Seems after getting the car in the air this would serve as a solid placement for jack stands. This would eliminate the guessing game most novices would experience when looking for a solid point that doesn't further damage the vehicle. That said, this should be refined into a commercial product. Most of us can't afford a commercial vehicle lift.

No metal prep prior to welding; just saying Nice idea, especially for pre-jacking vehicle prior to installing jack stands on frame so as to work on brakes etc

Not having the tools to build it i would BUY one of those jack systems….brilliant when you need to get under your whole car, just add a couple of jack stands and work in total secure comfort1👍👍👍👍

Great idea no doubt.. Have a few ideas to possibly improve upon the original design: 1. Make a sort of stay (or a small cutout) for the under side of the tool to ensure its exactly centered on the jack 2. Make the rods under the wheels roll. Meaning the Thinner pieces under the tires actually spin with the speed of the tire. Sort of like a dyna setup 3. Possibly make the lifting mechanism lift from the rear-end vs. Lifting from wheels Therfore freeing up the wheels for tire work/, doing brakes, etc

On #3. He stated don't crawl under the vehicle with just this lifting it, meaning, USE JACK STANDS! If you have it on the jack stands you can drop it out and roll it out of the way. On #2 I see what you mean but if they roll the car will push it as it tries to roll on.

Cars weight is also not identical on both sides of center as well so you need a decent amount of strength from the middle centering piece to insure it doesn’t crack or break cause the right side wants to come up easier than the left
