Cricket or Chris, we all know this is supposed to be a budget build/easy swap. However it seems like some custom pieces have been made for it, which I’m sure will eventually hit shelves. However could we get a price break down at the end from empty engine bay to running car? Not to concerned with suspension as this swap may become popular in road cars, drag applications, road course only stuff and I’m sure many other applications or platforms. At the end of the day I’m sure it’s gonna be cheaper and more plentiful than a JZ swap but is it going to be entry level?

That's interesting ! Aluminium to stainless steel - usually we like to keep these two metals apart because of galvanic corrosion, the stainless will destroy the aluminium & make it really weak & crumbly. Just a hint of moisture & you usually get a bad reaction.

i'm 99% sure that bracket would fit a m52/54 power steering pump as well, since the only fitment difference on those and s54 is the bracket it comes with.

The B58 got way too much hate when it came out and seemed like a slept on engine. I always considered it a 2J that Toyota would build today, not 30 years ago. It also has the S58 version which be close to a direct swap with 600hp and daily reliability. I think Chelsea's MA2.22 would go hard in a ZC6 and the G20E will be a great ZN6 swap when it hits production very soon.

they've been in many cars since 2016. you can find B58s for around $5k.

The alternative is use the stock ECU the same way you'll use the 2jz stock ecu 😉 But for full control you'll still be still going to want a stand alone.

It really depends how you aquire it! You can get a crashed car for sub $5k sometimes. These long blocks with accessories are readily available. The BMW B58 engine powers over 20 different models across BMW’s lineup, including sedans, coupes, SUVs, and roadsters.

I’m still rooting for a legit n54 build but the b58 will forever be one of the best inline 6 engines of all time. Just like Macaulay Culkin there is ups and downs until you meet the right one. The N54 will receive the right builder it deserves.

Just a heads up, don't waste your time making a aluminum exhaust. It WILL melt within the first five minutes on a Dyno or on track. It's melting point is way too low. Steve Morris has melted through many sets of bullhorns on his wagon and he only does 6 second runs. He's changed to steel/Inox to save the hassle of replacing them every run... There's a reason professional fab shops won't, and dont use aluminum for exhaust.

@DriftHQ I would think a aluminum muffler might hold on for a bit. Here's my question, have you ever seen glowing hot aluminum that isn't a weld pool? Any part of the exhaust system that gets that kind of heat, will blow through. At the very best, the natural aluminium oxide film might help it hold on a extra day or two, but I remain skeptically optimistic. Im not up on my metallurgy, so maybe ye have a aluminium alloy that will take the heat, best of luck to ye that it holds up. Great to see the R&D on the b series platform. The "new 2j" they say, eh?
