Heavy repair shops are incredibly important in a war, and it also makes it a target. We have the same in Sweden, many workplaces and apartment buildings have bomb shelters by law. Our workshops are pretty much the same as in Finland, the employer pays for clothes, shoes, ppe and most important, all the tools, tool carts etc

Finns in general may give you the impression that they are grumpy all the time (it may be the cold outside), but they are really humble, friendly and welcoming people. With the trucks coming in, the amount of snow, muck and grime, you'd be over your ears before lunch, if they didn't keep it to a minimum. @@WillE454 I don't know if you have seen the series "Garage Rehab", with Richard Rawlings from "Fast 'n Loud". He basically travels around the US, offering help to failed car workshops, by giving them an injection of money, by renovating the shops, and teaching the owners, how to run the shops clean, and how else they can make money. After 6-12 months, he revisit them, to see how they are doing. Most actually make it, and thrive, but some fall into old habits, and the nice shop and the customers are just gone. In short, those who can keep their shop up to the standars, like in this visit in Finland, thrive, while the rest fail miserable. It's a series on Discovery channel, I think.

On Finland and coffee... they're the country that drinks the most coffee per capita in the world, followed by us over in Norway, so coffee is important, I think more of the sugary Starbucks "coffee" is starting to show up, but it used to be just black coffee. Also, there are a lot of US cars in the Nordic countries, I've worked in a shop that specifically sold parts for US cars here in Norway, and I've owned a couple US cars, like a '78 Mustang II, and a '80 Buick Century Estate Wagon, and a couple that never made it back on the road, a '79 Foxbody Mustang, and a '76 Cadillac Coupe DeVille. But there's tons of American cars around here, and in that shop I mentioned I've gotten to work on all sorts of stuff, like a C1 Corvette, and even an old '54 Chevy half-ton truck with an old stovepipe I6, old Ramblers, and various Internationals, so we enjoy the old US cars here, and on that point, I've seen old Peterbuilts and various old US trucks I don't recognize roam around here, not often used in actual trucking as the truck is too long so you'd eat up too much of the length allowed for cargo, but they show up at car shows now and then.

Starbucks failed super hard in Finland because almost every grocery shop, kiosk and gas station sells decent fresh coffee for 1-2€. And we have a huge culture of brewing coffee at home. (It's much cheaper and you also usually brew for guests visiting.) Why would you pay 9€ for a cup of not so special coffee when you can already get it for 2€ pretty much anywhere? Fantastic serie Bruce. To the Americans, Bruce sad ; must be a lot of work and organisation to keep the shop so clean. Well no people it is not. You build a shop and implement all the things you need to work efficient and clean, thats it. And....the effect is you get more work done in the same time. BTW if you (worker) make a mess off the workspace you get 2 warnings and by nr 3 you are out. simple, straid and honnest I think. Ciao.

Enjoying your channel Bruce, spreading the word about Euro trucks. And Scania's in particular. The MOT test (vehicle inspection) in the UK, looks over the entire vehicle. Everything vital has to work, no dash warning lights, no play in the undercarriage, only surface rust, no body work damage, and brakes and tyres in good condition. Nothing like some vehicles staring on r/justrolledintheshop. The only bit not tested is the gearbox! And radio!

I like the way Bruce is giving a genuine attitude towards another countries tech etc. US exceptionalism is a myth. It's unfortunate that US politicians over decades have run the US down. It is the same for many countries, but the corrupt US political system is probably one of the worse in any developed countries. The US were ahead of the game around 4-5 decades ago, but that changed for some reason and Europe in particular flew ahead of the US by quite some way. I know that a small minority of our american friends here don't like to see this, but Bruce isn't doing anything other than showing it truthfully here. Funny thing is, the US leads in war tech, but ! there you go.. :(

The compulsory bomb shelters in commercial buildings in Finland is something new to me. I don't know other countries in Europe where this is a rule. Yes, we had those purpose built bomb shelters during the cold war, but these were part of civil defence, none of the private companies needed to have them as part of their buildings.

Was/is a thing in Sweden since the cold war as well, don't know if it's still a rule tho. Every apartment building I've lived in have had bombshelters to fit everyone living in the building + some extra. And working construction, what I know, and remember, is the last 10-15 new built apartmentcomplex I've been at have 'em too. Just don't know if it's still a rule or if we still just keep adding it in.
