Gidday Jake, I’d like to thank you again mate as I’m super impressed. The first part was incredibly detailed but this part is on another level, Darren’s knowledge is amazing and the lengths that he goes to on the engine prep prior to rebuilding blows my mind 🤯 Some things I know of but the removal of the oil gallery plugs and suchlike are things that I personally wouldn’t have thought about. Thanks again to both of you for such a detailed breakdown of what Lewis race engines does to ensure a reliable engine build.

Love this video. Thanks for taking the time to edit and share it. Darren is awesome. He did the machining for my rb26 back in 2012 and he took the time to explain some stuff to me. I was a second year apprentice mechanic at the time and I wanted to assemble it and he was so helpful. He even hand delivered the head back to me which was about an hour drive and he came out into my shed and checked over how I was going and gave me tips and everything. Such a top bloke. That engine was kept quite standard and made 320kw at the wheels with -7’s. I sold that GT-R sadly and it is still going strong today.
@DriftSquid5 жыл бұрын
Easy from my end. Cant put a price on the knowledge Darren has and its unreal for him to share it with us all. Yeah that is him to a tee mate. He is more then happy to help people who are genuinely willing to listen and learn themselves. Bloody good bloke he is and awesome to see your car is still going strong how ever I bet you are pissed you sold it? They are worth a bloody mint now.
@samuelleonard5 жыл бұрын
DriftSquid I know... so gutted. It was a 32 GT-R and when I sold it it was so nice! I bought it in 2010 for $18000 It owed me about $30,000 when I sold it in 2014 for $19,000 and then a year later the bloke that bought it from me sold it for $30,000 to a guy in Vic and he still owns it. Probably worth 40-50 now... I try not to look haha Back when I had the GT-R I had a white 4 door 32 that I drifted at mallala and heard drift squid a fair bit back then. Just bought a crappy 33 and took it to mallala for the first time last weekend. Feeling very rusty haha Loving the channel though, Clipsal looked like lots of fun

@samuelleonard5 жыл бұрын
DriftSquid I am not too sure... I took the car out last time non turbo and i’m going to turbo it before I go out next time because it was definitely a little underpowered haha It’s a 33 gtst that the last owner bought as a rolling shell and put all n/a running gear in. I’m putting a 25det box in it and putting a turbo on the na and just going to send it and see but not sure when it will be ready just yet. Will you be there? Do you ever take the rbm3 to stuff like that?
@DriftSquid5 жыл бұрын
@@samuelleonard I highly suggest getting it tuned with the turbo on mate. Drifting is so harsh and even being a little rough on the mixtures it wont last long. Even take it out to JDM X park with it still NA and you will learn a HEAP out there. car control is learnt better with less power. James is a good teacher, he owns the place. I do take the RBM3 out to some matsuri's I got an event coming up for the RBM3 so I will see how I go. May not take it to Matsuri yet. See how I go.

Very informative Vid Jake. Dale Campaign's RB has always had very reliable, but slightly noisy lifters over the last 10 years, and ive never realised that oil restrictors might have a bearing on that. We run 1.2 mm restrictors in his block too, by the way, without an auxilary head drain. Definetely great to pick up a few tips from this video.

Nice video. Im also doing a rb26 rebuild right now. Seeing good experience of other people is priceless. Your mechanic asked him self how people get away with not resizing/ rehoning the the big end after installing stronger arp rod bolts. I measured the big end with an thou mm gauge, 2 months ago, because i wanted to know if rezising is nassersary. I still havent decided yet 🙈. Workshop manuals says 51.000mm - 51.007mm for size 0 ( smallest size). The smallest i measured was 50.983mm ( 0.017mm to 51.000mm) from rod to cap ( x- axis) and the y-axis was 50.994mm ( 0.006mm to 51.000mm) on one rod. The max out of round of an other rod (difference between x and y axis) was 0.014mm. 0.0254mm is a thou inch, so everithig less than a thou". my scale is not imperial, because im from germany. Sorry for that, but i hope your mechanic can use this data. Please let me know his opinion.

Good video mate. One bit of info that would be handy to know is when keeping vct are the same oil restrictors still used or does that change which restrictors are used and positions they get put.
@vitalys53955 жыл бұрын
The RB30 block has no factory oil feed for the Vct from the block to the head through the head gasket. Same size restrictiors as what they've put in, is perfectly fine mate, as the Vct actuator gets its oil feed from a separate oil feed tapped into the head externally. Im sure that Jake's next video will describe the process 😉
@DriftSquid5 жыл бұрын
Sorry I thought I had it in there. Do as Darren said and you will need to add an external feed to the VCT. We will be covering this once we put the head on the bottom end. You need to run a restricted braided line so it doesn't overfil the head. We will explain in the next video
@alexhateley73225 жыл бұрын
@@DriftSquid thanks mate. Have done all this on my motor sept i ran a 1.2 at rear blocked centre and kept the factory 1.4 for vct feed at the front. just thought id put the question up incase others were after the same info. Keep up the good work.

There is only 2 feeds in an RB30 block. So we will explain the external feed process in the next video. Its very simple but its a must if using VCT.
