Back when I worked as an Aircraft Instrument Technician it wasn’t unheard of to spend $65 or a single pair of tweezers for working with hair springs. That was the 1980s and to this day I use those very same tools

Unconsciously excellent. Takes nerves of steel to use a razor-sharp chisel to bevel a purfling strip on the back of your guitar, but you didn't give it a second thought. Just went ahead and shaved a new bevel. You didn't look at the back, afterward, so you knew you never made contact. Colour me impressed.

Very cool guitar build; the wood color variations on that back are amazing and the abalone perf makes it look really classy. Great stuff. Regarding tools: (1) quality is important (you get what you pay for), and (2) always use the “right tool” for every job (the right tool makes work easier, safer and produces the best results).

Cool! Just tried it on my first scratch build. Mine was supposed to be .047 (that's what my teflon was) but it turned out to be .051. No biggie, just took the strips of abalone down on 220, exactly 16 light passes to get 'er into the channel. Turned out really nice!! Now for the neck build.

First off, regarding tools, whoever criticized you for buying nice tools is an idiot. As with any craftsman or especially in your case being both a craftsman and artist tools are everything! Tools are what makes it possible for producing such great guitars. Keep up the great work and the collection of great tools.

G'day from Australia, What is the best way or any products that will preserve the binding from shrinking or cracking on a guitar. After having a guitar crack on sound board on a 20 year old Tokai due to drying out it got me thinking about the binding, fingerboard and how I could prevent any other damage? Awesome channel Two Thumbs Up.

Exemplary. Thank you so much. I never saw it done this way before. I've been fitting the purfling, the abalone (flexible - no teflon) the purfling the binding, Doing the binding first is weird, but it obviously works. How do you fit the binding without having it tilt over when there is nothing to support it at the top? Or are you routing the purfling, etc strip once the binding is fitted. I did this on a repair in order to preserve the binding, and frankly it was a pucker moment. Also, I don't understand what you mean by the end graft 'wrapping round' - do you just mean it comes up through the binding???? And finally, superglue on spruce top as well? I had problems with discolouration - shellac first? The round of applause at the end is well deserved, by the way.

Hey Chris - I noticed that the Advanced Shell Technologies Abalone strip is .064" while the teflon strips at LMI are .063". Is that a big deal? The other two sizes available at LMI (.079" and .094") match up with the AST strip sizes. Should I go with the sizes that match up since I am new to the process?
