I recently designed a handy scrapping rover with a rotor+hinge joint on each end of a piston arm and the end of this "tail" has 9 grinders, three magnetic pads and a small grid connector on another hinge for docking back up to any base. It has several wind turbines that run when I'm anchored down for stability (I came up with an anchor system that anchors the main grid down without having to lower the rover). It has 6 wheels and looks pretty bug-like so I named it Scrapion.

I'd suggest using the mods Sneaky Sounds and Build Vision 3.0. Sneaky Sounds reduces the tool noises, but not the combat noises, making recording and playing easier on the ears. Build Vision gives you an alternative way to access the console in blocks, making them easy to control from right next to the block. Splitsie uses them both by default and I couldn't imagine not using them myself.

I'm doing my best to stay vanilla for now, but mods will come soon and I'll be sure both are on my list.

I would also Recommend using Turret control blocks for this task as you can control different segments with the mouse or control 1 or 2 segment and have the rest on the toolbar

You should try the PARK script. Pretty easy to setup and allows you to use movement keys to control hinges, rotors, and pistons.

Haven't seen that one, but I found something similar that you'll see at the beginning of the next video.

Bro, check Build Vision mod, it will blow your mind how simple is to control moving blocks with this mod. You just look at piston and thats all, you control it.

An easier method for locking it to the ground add a couple of foldable arms that locked to the ground kind of like a backhoe stabilization arms
@DoremiFasolatido19792 жыл бұрын
I honestly think the nature of that arm is just outside the scope of Space Engineers, but what I'd recommend is try a series of turret controllers, and control the arm one segment at a time, but much more simply than doing so manually. Using turret controllers would let you control the tail with the mouse or such, but each one can only handle two hinges/rotors. So you'd need three of them, and you'd only be able to use one of them at a time. But you could hotbar them, and just switch to each as needed to get the drill into position. I just don't think there's a way to get it, even with scripts or such, to where you can just move the drill head where you want and have the game position the rest of the thing so it doesn't hit the ground. SE just doesn't do that.

Oh I'm not looking for a way to get the game to do all the work for me, I'm just looking for a way to speed up the process a bit. You'll see a real solution in the next episode. As for the turret controllers, we'll be using those in the future for sure.

epiktek can you do new season on medevil engineers? the devs have resumed work on the game and is now being updated again but by the community as keen software house gave then the game have a good day!
@EpikTek2 жыл бұрын
That's possible, but probably a long while off. I want to let the community devs get a chance to really make a difference in the game. They have a long way to go.

But are we going to do some Blowing Up Stuff?
@EpikTek2 жыл бұрын
Probably not. I mean sometimes I blow things up by accident, but if you're looking for combat, I wouldn't rely on this series.
@GoldDragon12 жыл бұрын
@@EpikTek I didn't say combat, just blowing things up. Accidentally or otherwise. :D

Epik you made mineing way over complicated by useing that Script and two hindges you (don't need/don't use). adding a Advanced Rotor into the arm at some point would help with maneuvering it a lot thrue clean-ish curves. you may want to use the "Federal Industrial - Logistics" Mod it has a good size "Industrial Ore Storage" container. it sould take you a wile to fill with only one drill head.
@EpikTek2 жыл бұрын
What? Me? Make something overly complicated? That seems completely unlike me. ;) You'll see more use for those hinges in the next episode, but yes, there are much easier ways to mine, but then I wouldn't get to build a crazy long and complicated arm.
