Hey you two, I am 83 yr old lady, me and a young friend installed my My Cool, 18,000BTU. I live in a 61 year old 560 sq ft mobile home. You will grow to love that thing on hanging on the wall. They wanted $4000 for a unit and I was running a 12,000 BTU window unit that I could not even hear the TV. I don't know how the multi zone unit works but I am sure just as well. I also talked to Mr Cool several times for help and they were great. I am glad you can turn the temp light off, in the dark of the night it is pretty bright. I did get my unit from Home Depot for $1700. Just cannot beat it, so quiet. Keep up the good work, I am anxious to see you hook up the condensing unit.

As I watch this video, I am having two AC units installed here in my home. The older units are 15 years old and one has been giving us problems with low cool air, we don't want to be left in the heat, just in case the unit fails us! lol A lot of adjusting as one unit was too close to the ceiling and in an awkward place to have it lowered. That of course means cutting into the wall, running the wires, etc. down to the lower level and into the ceiling and outside!! Happy that you both challenge yourselves and get it all done! Awesome work!! TFS :)

I'm about to install a mini split. I don't see, from the template, how if I screw into a stud with one mounting screw I'll also be able to hit another stud on the other end of the bracket. Also, the building has board and batten siding and I'd like the line set to come out centered between two battens. But, I had an idea: If there's no stud where you want to put a mounting screw, cut out a section of drywall behind the wall unit, install blocking horizontally between two studs, replace the drywall and tape and mud the seam. It will be behind the unit, so no need to be super neat, or repaint the wall patch, as long as it's flat. The other option would be to not care about the line set coming out through a batten. If you have extra batten material, build up around the hose thimble so it sits on a flat surface. I would have liked to see how you finished the outside of the wall penetration.

When I have to hole saw through a wall, I drill a 1/4" pilot hole through first, with a long installer bit. Then hole saw from the inside, then go outside and use the pilot hole to guide the hole saw. That way your holes line up perfectly, first time every time. 👍

So I've been watching a few of these videos to try to brainstorm how I'm going to run the lines and stuff (almost nothing is ideal, sadly). A few things I've learned that I should share with y'all: - the tape is not supposed to be adhesive; it's insulating tape for when the lines leak some condensate that makes it through the foam - you don't want it to leak in the wall. So you have to tape where the wrap starts and ends to keep it in place. - before you click down the unit, you can adjust it slightly left and right to align it - the smaller air handlers have a bit more adjustment available - you should pack the inside and outside of the tube with caulk/foam/the nasty squishy oily stuff that I forget the name of so that bugs don't have a route inside - you didn't do this but lots of folks do - don't put the communication wire in the wrap with the 3 hoses

Did you consider individual units as opposed to a multi zone system? I am involved in something very similar to what you are doing with a 1987 Redman.
