Drink-driver jailed for causing deaths of woman and infant in 141mph crash

A woman whose baby son and sister were killed by a drunk driver told a court how she had to "pick her dead baby up from the side of the road" before his killer was jailed.
Zackary Blades, eight months, and his aunt Karlene Warner, 30, died at the scene after the Peugeot 308 they were travelling in on the A1(M) was hit in the early hours of 31 May.

My 3yo was killed by a drunk driver. We were passengers in another car. I was in a coma for over a week and had 4 ops over 4 yrs. There were 5 witnesses against him. He was fined £100 for drunk driving and his licence was taken off him for 5 yrs. 1976. I have walked with pain for 48yrs. British Law.

Seen the fall out first hand, people I knew killed or maimed. I am not the most sensible of people when it comes to myself, but I will not even have a half if driving. In my 30's I stopped staying over at mates houses and going out all day, for the reason of not driving back the next day. After a session of a holiday 5 years ago I paid for an extra day to park my car at the airport and a premier inn room to clear out the system . I do not want wrecking lives on my 'palmares'

Heart breaking. I can't imagine the torture the family are living through thanks to the selfish actions of a complete idiot who should spend the rest of his life in jail. I know because my father was killed instantly in a similar way, a drunk driver 3 1/2 times over the limit, 110mph in a Range Rover. Got 24 months! Yeah 24 months. My mother was 42 at the time and is now 82. She has never recovered and is still in deep grief. My Mum has had a 40-year sentence with no chance of parole whatsoever.

Why is alcohol not banned completely when driving. Your alchohol intake, in a format that can impair your senses, should be banned, and i think it should be banned completely, but that's me. The harm it casuss outweighs anything else. Even if one life is lost as a result. One life lost due to alcohol is over the limit.

Because drinking a 0.5% shandy 2 hours ago won't impair driving. The limit used to be higher decades ago and I'm sure they've done studies and found the current legal limit is at the point where it affects driving safety.
