Forgot to mention Fisher’s own & CORRECT point about slave Leah: she was supposed to present like a sex slave because JABBA IS THE BAD GUY! Jabba made her do that, not Lucas or the fandom. I agree, but may I add I don't understand why they get so worked up over a woman being sexy in a movie in the first place, what's the big deal? Are you so offended that a woman showed off her body? I see hundreds of girls wearing half of Leia's bikini every time I go to the beach...but of course it's empowering when they do it, but god forbid Carrie Fischer does the exact same thing? And showing chiseled men who have bodies that the average man could never attain in their wildest dreams is perfectly fine? It doesn't bother me either way, but they're so hypocritical about it. What exactly is wrong with a woman in a bikini? It's the exact same thing as a shirtless dude, and some audiences just prefer one over the other, big deal... People like sexy things, almost like sex is a big part of our lives or something. This is just a hate group at this point, and they hate men. That's it...

And I loved it! My favorite characters were R2D2, Darth Vader, The Emperor, Darth Maul, and Yoda, and I do not have a single ounce of resemblance to any of them, neither in appearance nor personality...and that is because I'm not so shallow and narcissistic to have to see a reflection of myself in a movie. Make your characters whatever race/gender you want, but please, for the love of god, make them INTERESTING and COOL god damn it! To this day it's still fun to try and mimic Darth Vader's voice, or Yoda's, or the Emperor's, and get nowhere close but still have fun doing it; or to pretend I'm a Jedi using the force when I walk up to an automatic sliding door.

I love how 'society' has decided that Hollywood is the one single industry on the planet where blaming the customer is considered a good marketing move. When a car company tries some new feature and nobody likes it, it won't be on next year's model. When Taco Bell or McDonalds try some new item and it doesn't sell well, it gets discontinued. That's the way the market has always worked. But Hollywood thinks that instead of changing or improving the product, they can just... shame their customers into guilt-buying? Has that worked ever? Like, literally EVER? Just imagine Burger King paying people from random youtubers to well known food critics up to like Gordon Ramsay, to come out and demand people buy their Big Mac knockoff Big King or whatever it was called. "Why do you hate BK workers? There is no way you simply don't want our knockoff and would rather just go buy an actual Big Mac at McDonalds! Are you classist against poor little fast food workers? Buy the burger bigot!" I wonder why none of them have ever tried that as a marketing strategy... According to Hollywood, it should work.

It worked with Black Panther and Barbie, you can't deny the "allure" for investors when you release two mediocre products and they are celebrated anyway, generating billions of dollars. You can use the "culture wars" trend as a shield against criticism, if you dislike She-Hulk, Acolyte, Rings of Power, etc.. that means you are a racist, bigot, etc.. it just works, weak minded people will try to jump on the trend bandwagon because they want to be part of a group (we've all being there, I jumped on the emo bandwagon back in the mid 00s, teenagers are just stupid. Depressive people are desperate, etc). You not only generate free marketing among the social media bubbles who fights with their keyboard, you also attracts new audiences. But if you actually lose the previous audiences, I guess that could weaken the trend (who is on it's last legs in my pov). Have to wait and see, I bet many entertainment groups will desperately seek the next Barbie in the next 2 years or so, if that doesn't happen and the money is just draining away, the mainstream media will pull the breaks. Meanwhile artificial intelligence will most likely be the next "social" trend and... oh boy, this one is legitimately scary

It used to work. Over the past 10 years we saw a wave of emotional blackmail and gaslighting like this; it actually managed to brainwash a significant portion of society. It was a very effective strategy until everything started doing it. Now people are so inundated by emotional blackmail and gaslighting, because they're constantly bombarded with it from all angles. They've become so inundated by it that they've become desensitized to it, and now, slowly but surely, more and more people are realizing that they've been manipulated, and they're starting to reject that manipulation. So, long story short; it was an extremely effective strategy. Between 2014 and 2022. By 2022, the strategy became so exceedingly overused that it lost its effectiveness. I, for one, am kinda glad they took it too far. I remember back in 2019, wondering how far the world would go down this rabbit hole of madness. I was terrified of the cultural implications of allowing emotional blackmail and gaslighting to form our public consciousness. But then they pushed the envelope too far and it backfired, and I let out a huge sigh of relief

The princess Leia''s bikini scene and outfit is so iconic, that even now many girls and women wear this to comic cons and other conventions. If it was so bad, why is it still seen as so iconic and why do girls still wear it? It also featured in popular culture a lot. The outfit even made sense in the setting, eyecandy or not. There's nothing in Disney Star Wars that will even reach this heigh of cultural impact. And this is just one outfit/scene, we're not even talking about the whole subculture that the old movies created. Disney will never be able to recreate this, unless perhaps people that created Andor or likeminded people get free reign over the whole SW property. Perhaps even people like Mike Flannagan or Denis Villeneuve. And yeah even then there will probably be some DEI, but atleast then the story will be front and center.

I still can’t get over the fact that people/media constantly acknowledge the fact that Star Wars has a large predominantly male fanbase and instead of simply acknowledging that they just say oh that’s a huge problem. It’s like is it though?! It’s where we are with the discourse where everyone sees the same thing, but somehow we describe the situation completely differently in basically the opposite way. It’s far easier to get other fans, but keep your male fans then to try to drive your male fans away by catering to a microscopic other fandom. This is why everything fails because people assume this phantom, “modern audience” actually exists which it never did and never will.
