Violent Night is freaking awesome, I've seen it twice now. One of my favorite films of the year, it's like Home Alone meets Die Hard, with the violence cranked up to 11.

We had a blast with this one! It shows early on that it doesnt take itself too seriously but then surprises especially with the character work and their relationships. I loved Lemon & Tangerine. They chew lots of scenery in a great way. The hand to hand combat scenes are engaging and the bigger over the top action fits perfectly with the rest of the movie. Also it has a positive emotional element to it which I really appreciated! I'd love to see a Lemon & Tangerine movie :)

Just watched the movie, upon your recommendation. It was the most fun I had watching a movie in a very long time! I got a lot of Kill Bill vibes from it in terms of how it seamlessly blends action, violence and comedy. The movie clearly isn't trying to take itself seriously, it's pure entertainment for the sake of entertainment. And I loved every minute of it. We REALLY need more of these!

That seems like a massive exaggeration lol. Really, anything? Lol. If you only focus on MCU movies and some of the major blockbusters, then maaaaybe, but there have been many other movies and shows in the past few years that have come out that have been great. Expand your scope.
@markzuckergecko621 Жыл бұрын
@@Helixium08 not that many though. How many times have you rewatched a movie from the 90s or early 2000s more recently and thought "oh yea, this movie was pretty kickass. I totally forgot about it."? Probably pretty often, because there were so many great movies coming out in that era, that a lot of them kinda just got forgotten. I don't think the same is going to be said for this era, looking back in retrospect. The good movies are fewer and further between.
@cokemaster3710 Жыл бұрын
@@markzuckergecko621i mean yeah you’re going to be nostalgic for movies that came out when you were a child/young adult. The rose tinted glasses for 90s and 00s movies is hilarious because hollywoods always been putting out dogshit movies, its just no one remembers 90% of what came out during that time. example: for every pulp fiction you got 50 shitty ripoffs
@markzuckergecko621 Жыл бұрын
@@cokemaster3710 hard disagree on that, the late 90s and early 2000s were a genuinely great era for movies. I get what you're saying, and maybe nostalgia plays some role, but I don't feel the same about the 80s to early 90s, and there were definitely some great movies from that era too, but there's also a lot that I have that nostalgic connection to, and rewatch later on and think uh-oh, this is actually kinda shit. And that's fine, the nostalgia still exists. But I can separate the 2 things, just because a movie reminds me of another time in my life doesn't mean it's good.

I saw this film three times in the theater because it was so good + got the DVD when it was released & was very funny, also this film reminds me of Silver Streak (1976) that does have similar elements, an action comedy set on a train, dark satire in a funny way, & the ending goes off the rails... literary!

The sets were colorful, the cinematography dynamic, the dialogue sharp, the action sequences creative, and the mystery compelling. However, I couldn't help but feel disappointed when the last third of the movie turned into action schlock, forgoing the clever twists it had earlier. What could have been a 10/10 ended up being more of an 8/10 by the end. Solid film all the same.
