The "schmatz" probably meant the sound you make when opening the lips while eating. In German this is called "schmatzen". So it has a connection to eating (messily). What Sarah meant was "Schmatzer" as in giving a big or wett kiss making a distinct sound (again the connection to messy).

I do miss stopping by an Imbiss for a currywurst mit pommes and a Spezi. Also miss walking around the Marktplatz or Domplatz with some Gluwein and seeing all the little things vendors are selling. I miss Volksmarches and all the fall fests in the smaller villages highlighting what they are known for, beir, wein, kasse or whatever.
