I go for a pint in a pub where going on your phone or any social media is banned and if caught you get kicked out! This is to force you to talk to your mates or other people just like how a real pub should be!
There is no music, no tv's....just cheap beer and a chit chat!

You cant beat a proper old fashioned British boozer. You will meet people that you never knew existed. You can become friends with strangers and listen to their stories over a pint. It’s just a friendly atmosphere and an all round great experience. Please don’t let this tradition disappear, it’s ingrained into British culture. This is how our country was built. 🇬🇧

I am very fortunate to have a girlfriend who only uses her phone when we're together for critical things, we go out and talk for hours and never post anything about it. KZbin is the only "social media" I use now aside from texting for vital information, it may be anecdotal but I keep hearing more and more people around me either limiting usage or giving it up completly. My parents are almost 60 and my mum can't stay off her phone at all even when we're talking sometimes, she never learned how to be responsible with usage because it just wasn't a thing for her growing up, she used to read loads of books because she had nothing else to do when the weather was bad but now she just plays candy crush or games similar to it.

Cheers for this dude. This pub review thing is right up my street. As I've said before, think you are on to a winner with this content. I really enjoy pub-culture and I love that you are documenting these kinds of real community hubs. The statistics on pubs that are shutting in the UK are grim. They are actually the burning ember of light left in some communities which are themselves otherwise grim. I hope that people remember our great pub culture and that people like you help to encourage people to never be afraid to venture into a pub, no matter how they look on the outside. These days, they need all the business they can get. Said it before, but if you are ever over in Northern Ireland hit me up for spots to check out, both the good, the bad, and the ugly lol. Cheers and keep it up. Fast becoming one of my favourite channels, and I've recommended to many friends. Usually while havin' a pint! 🍻

I worked in a Sam Smiths pub for many years. Great beer, great pub. What some customers would do is buy half a Taddy Lager (4.5% - £2.30 a pint) and half an Alpine (2.9% - £1.40 a pint) in the same pint glass for £1.85 a pint. The bitter drinkers would mix half a mild (1.34 a pint) with half a Sovreign Bitter (2.04 a pint) for a pint of mixed for £1.69 a pint. Happy days. All Sam Smiths beer is rocket fuel and is stronger than advertised.

When we walked in it,it was like the scene in an american werewolf in London when they go to the pub on the moors! Grim,soulless,cold..the building was tired and run down,to be fair the beer was decent, and we aren’t bothered about our phones so that wasn’t an issue, swearing on the other hand!now being average at best snooker players most misses are followed by a string of f bombs..we were told half a dozen times by their team to watch the language which in a rough and ready town like Cas is laughable. Somehow we made it through the match and fortunately it will be a year till we have to go back, although I’ve threatened my partner with a night out there! Their Pure Brew Lager is one of my favourite beers on earth.. Bloody terrific.. Whenever i'm in my nearest city [Bristol] I always try to go there. Cheap beer. They have nice cubicles. And the old landlord there was a legend. I'd go in, and ask for a few tokens for the pool table. And he''d go "don't worry mate... take a handful" one time he did this and i said "oh...oh no!" because he knew as well as I did. I'd be there the next 3 hours, when I only wanted to go in for an hour and a half..

The definition of a quiet pint. Theres a few near me but ive not been in any since the no swearing/mobile ban came into effect. And always a cheap pint Update: went to one near me for a few quiet pints after work. The place itself is a dive ngl but there were 1 or 2 nice old fellas willing to have a chat and while they observed the rule on no tv/music and mobiles, they didn't on the swearing lmao. But again, it's in a former pit village so I guess some things are to be expected.

There’s a way of telling people tho. Me and the mrs went to York and honest to god, didn’t see the boards. I told her to grab a seat and I ordered our drinks. She was on her phone checking where the car park was. I was only having one cos I was driving. Some muppet from behind the bar went over to her and said get off your phone. She said oh sorry I didn’t see the sign. And he tapped it. Then he was slagging off my mrs to his mate. I thought they were talking about someone outside knocking the sign over or sumat. Only when I got to the table she told me and I put 2 and 2 together. It was her bday and my gran was calling my phone to wish her happy birthday. So I put it on loudspeaker. Fella looked old enough to be her dad. Did he come over? Did he f***. He was just looking at me and back at his mate. Don’t have to be an aggy nobhead. Just ask people nicely and they’ll respond in kind.

There’s a couple of these in Teesside/Middlesbrough. Same rules, best pubs you will ever visit, soon as a phone is pulled out you were told to put it away as though you were in school. We’d stay in there all day til’ closing. Sammy Smiths all day 1.80 a pint and heavy stuff. We would make conversation to everyone we’d get the chance to speak with. Card games the lot. All we needed was a pool table and darts and we were sound. Was possibly the only chance we’d ever get to feel what the past was like. Our local has closed down now, I remember the family who owned it saying they can’t wait til’ Sammy passes so they could run it like normal, there was no cameras in there but they were always paranoid he might pop in one day, even though the chances were extremely slim considering there was chains allover the country. Good times.
