Bob Mc I bought one after seeing him test a Ford truck with high idle. It was the CTS saying it was 32° when it was 80°. It told me my AP right side check valve was bad. My Snap-on scanner simply said air pump system inoperative.

I have one for my older ALDL Buick car just costs to much to have it scanned so I bought the tool and it's worked well for the 3 years I've had it although I've started to encounter a error where the tool would say it couldn't connect to the ECM but other times worked perfectly fine. Decided to update it tho to see if that helps at all.

I have to say that you are the best KZbinr for the DIY automotive people out there right now. If there were more independent shops out there like yourself. We as mechanics (been turning wrenches in a dealership for over 25 years) would have a much better reputation. I watched one of your vids. and it showed the coolant temperature and other readings on a EEC-IV Ford OBD I so I ordered one from EBAY. It does more than my Snap-on scanner! Thanks!

Yup! Great for my 1999 Cherokee when 2 monitors remain unfinished I can get it to pass NYS test before the dang PRND32-1 indicator thingie says out of range. Maybe I messed up some wiring when welding in new floor pans. Now it's 25 years old so no emissions!

I have this same one. Probably bought it from watching this video before. It doesn't do "all system", like the 9695, but I got it because it also does OBD1, and had an old truck. Have gotten a better one since, but keep this one around in case I ever run into an old OBD1 vehicle again. Thanks for sharing.

That scanner looks very similar to the OTC 3211 and Bosch 1300. I bet all three scsnners are made by the same manufacturer then covered with the different companies color scheme and sold as one of their products.

Funny: I just discovered that feature in my Actron yesterday. I'm like, "I thought you were just a code reader!" She's pretty handy-- better if it had hands to do the work too.

Yeah I have this unit as well so I looked for this feature here. I have a code (the check engine light went out) so I fixed (replaced the light) and now need an inspection, but Evap check is not done. So no I can see when this Evap check is done LIVE.

What I'd love to know is does it really provide enhanced obd2 data like the verus/maxisys/encore? can you do a comparison video on the same car?

I'm wondering that also, the CP9190 I have doesn't have it all, I can look @ mode6 but it's raw data and requires too much brain function aka. decimal, hex, bin conversions and searching around to see what's what is like pulling teeth.. always have to use mode 6 for miss-firing that's not bad enough to spit codes sucks! :)

curiosity question. I used to have my NYS inspection license and I know the rules have changed a lot since the 90's. since you had to do a drive cycle before the car can be issued a sticker you are obviously driving it without a valid inspection. How do you deal with the law enforcement if you get stopped for an out dated sticker.

Hello I bought a CP9690 and want to do live data to catch warning lights on a 2014 Ram Promaster, I have two lights going off intermittently, dealer says they can not fix it cause the code is not registered, its a air bag sensor and rear back up assist, can you do a video on how you would use the Actron to check codes or how I would use it to catch these codes while the vehicle is in motion.

@@rickroy1353 ordered a reboxed one on ebay. We'll see. It's been over 3 years since I've really done a Ford OBD1 except my sons Lincoln. I did find in my toolbox a Thexton reader that will actually do gm, Chrysler, and Ford. It really only grounds the single wire to get codes out and on GM it only shorts the correct wires together! It actaully has an led that I suppose lights up like the CEL on the Lincoln.

Eric i have a 2008 Ford Focus - 2.0L Duratec inline cylinder completely stock. (4speed auto) When my car sits overnight and then started up , it has made a knock or a little bang when started and then immediately vanishes as soon as it's started & runs great. Has 30,000 US Miles on it. Maintenance is done to a T, had ALL new Ford Engine Mounts put in a year or 2 ago. Just wondered if there is a common issue where you've seen with these, sorry i know the details are limited here.

What type of oil filter are you running? Some oil filters have a anti-drain back valve built in so when you start you vehicle you still have oil throughout the oil passages in the motor and not let it drain back into the oil pan. That is why when you first start you vehicle cold you will hear that metal on metal sound for a second or two.

look at the exhaust and heat shields closely, I've seen a handful of different years with exhaust hangers/shield worn/rusted and same happens with some motor mounts, then engine may jump far enough to let it bang when cold. unless you mean oil drain back and the lifters clattering :)

Ford Dealer Filter. Oil has been changed at the dealer since new. every 3,000mils /5,000km .

This is more common on manual cars, but a sticky starter bendix can fail to retract quickly enough and gets hit by the flywheel. Some cars also have loud timing chain rattles before oil pressurizes the tensioner on a cold start.

i have a question no body can seem to answer and it's came in twice at my shop now. I'll be honest, i did a lazy diag but it was a fairly easy one. Vehicle stalled out & only cranks, when you spray carb cleaner in the breather it'll start for a sec then die out. you'd automatically think fuel problem correct? turns out after replacing the fuel pump & diagnosing fuel I'm like wait, what if this isn't even a fuel problem. check spark, zero spark. my question is if its getting fuel with no spark, then how on earth does spraying carb cleaner get it to attempt starting. long post but please answer. thanks!!

The starting aid (spray) is more volatile and can ignite in a hot cylinder under compression alone. Like a diesel :)

South Main Auto Repair gotcha. So the spray testing is by no means a good test for a fuel problem in that case? out of all the cars ive ever done it on its only happened twice recently...usually if they're getting fuel they wont budge with the spray!

"incomplete" showing it needs driven around more, many vehicles have very specific circumstances to complete all test, the EVAP system and catalytic converters are usually the biggest pains :)

Here is the 96 subaru circumstances, from subaru: Readiness drive pattern: accelerate to 50 MPH, drive for at least 3 minutes without braking, decelerate to 30 MPH, then accelerate again to 50 MPH, and drive for at least 3 minutes again without braking. If having to brake, then start the pattern all over again. This particular year is such a pain that a lot of states just drop the readiness requirement. I passed NJ inspection with 2 or 3 incompletes in my 96 subaru. I think NY also lets them pass regardless so any incopletes. I live in a rural area and I'm not even sure where I can preform this pattern safely. Newer cars are generally easier to do.

try chrysler's, you have to do similar and much worse, including pray to every known god and 10 made up ones then dance many jigs whilst crossing fingers and toes. last jeep I did it took many overnight drives to get it finished without traffic screwing me, the cat's were about gone, so it took ages

Basically refers to getting the monitors on the car ready. They vary from car to car. Most states you can't pass emissions unless all or most of them are complete.
