I used to hit the ball absolutely straight - no hook, fade, slice - dead straight! THEN I had some terrible wrist issues and quit for about ten years. I was consistently shooting 74 - 76 with an occasional 71 thrown in. Now I hit slices, hooks mostly, and fades. I'm going to do this drill and video myself to see just how far out of whack I've gotten in ten years! Thanks guys!

Great video as always. It would be great if you could do a video on a “throw release” vs “twist release” and debunk some myths on what is most used by the pros and what is preferred for amateur perspective. It has been suggested that rory has a throw release and someone like bubba has a twist release

Great video. At 5:00 you mention that the Pros lean the shaft of the driver back at address. I have noticed this as well. When I do this the face of the driver is pointing to the left of my target. I find this makes it difficult to trust my swing. Am I doing something wrong or will the dynamic motion of the swing align the face properly? Thanks.

When setting up with the shaft angled slightly back from the target, it will affect the club face at adress. Should the club face be square to target line even when shaft is angled backwards or will it be slightly closed? Assuming the head is just behind the ball at setup.

Also I've always wondered can a 3 wood hit up off the tee do better (straighter & further) than a driver hit slightly down? btw looking forward to the video on those like me are much too forward at impact with their body (irons & longer clubs). cheers fellas

Up, down, or neutral has more to do with clubhead speed than handicap. Fast players can get away with neutral or slightly down, slower players would be sacrificing a good bit of distance doing so. Same applies for launch angle which is why some players hit their 15* 3wood farther than their 8 or 9 lofted driver.

I feel like the beginning of this video misses the fact the I need to EXAGERATE my feels in slow and practice swings to get results at speed. I will make swings with my hands "too far forward" at slow speed because for years I've flipped too early. I need to feel like my hands never flip to get anywhere close to having a vertical shaft at impact with the driver. The reality is at speed my hands are going to fire a lot earlier. I do like the checkpoints you're talking about at impact and just after. I just know I have to feel an extreme change to get a small change. For me it's getting out ahead of the ball to soon, a collapsing of the left knee is sometimes the culprit or so it would appear. Do you guys remember a PGA tour player named Frank Lickliter? Man alive, watching him at Torrey Pines years ago, even with the driver he would first forward press his hands Way to the left and actually take the club back from that position, hit the ball very hard and long, so of course I just had to try that. I’ll give this opening statement a big maybe. . Depends on your approach play . Depends on your chipping ( Pro’s average 13 greens and regulation) . Depends on you putting . Did the game got easier cause you’re closer to the green. Some players are preferring a full shot into the green. DIY

I love the idea of hitting it straight, but that's such an improbable concept. I think intent is a better phrase. It's soo much easier to intentionally curve a ball with a driver than to hit a straight shot. Granted the forgiveness of modern equipment has made that proposition easier. I come from the old persimmon days when you had to curve it and hit it on the screws. There was only one who hit it straight, Byron Nelson, hence the machine is called the iron Byron
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 2 жыл бұрын
Byron Nelson was the original "Machine" for sure. By straight we are referring to hitting the fairway lol. As you mentioned, literally hitting the ball with zero axis tilt and curve is rarely ideal. What we're demonstrating here works for both a fall right or fall left preference 👍

Not sure if it has been done before, but would like to see the hand/club path thru and past impact. I see so many videos that appear to show that everything goes so far left with low hands (for Righty), but feel it is over done? Hard to be in to out and exit far left, I feel there is some misinterpretation there... and is it different from wood to iron swing? Thanks!!
@AthleticMotionGolf
@AthleticMotionGolf 2 жыл бұрын
@@Boss302ATC Great idea. That idea is WAAAAAAY overdone. Exiting far left is based on poor camera angles and doesn't really exist in reality. For an iron, the exit hand path is just slightly left of the downswing hand path. For a Driver, it's right of the downswing hand path.

It is fact that the world of golf instruction today is filled with misconceptions, exaggerations and much false material. Would you agree that the definition of a neutral grip is the "V" of the lead hand when at address points to the chin ? Would you also agree if this "V" formed by the thumb and index finger points to the trail ear or shoulder is a strong grip ? I am just trying to understand an earlier statement that most pga tour players play with a neutral grip. When in fact I see that "V" of the an overwhelming majority of pga tour players pointing to the trail ear or trail shoulder.I feel a clarification of a strong , neutral and weak grip are in order here. Please google "images " of a neutral golf grip and tell me again that most pga tour players do not play with a strong grip. Thanks guys
