This is very cool. Something that will help pitchers out a lot is being able to see how their command changes based on pitch sequence. Commanding a fastball after a fastball is easier than commanding a fastball after a curve etc.

This makes sense. Golfers have a dominant dispersion pattern and they plan shots based on that dispersion. Makes sense pitchers would have the same type of intent-outcome mapping.

I didn’t realize this video was from the company that makes it until the very end. Sweet video

It is not a location - it is an intention. That is an interesting way to understand a command.

Fascinating... are you planning on showing us some drills to improve ? Is the one part of my pitching game that seems mysterious. I'll throw 4 or 5 in a row where i want them , then i can't seem to find it for a few pitches ?

Awesome video! I think for it to really pop off, you should spend like 10-20s simply explaining what command is to people like me who don't know baseball that well. It sets up the story of the video a lot better in my opinion.

Do you project where the ball hit or crossed
@drivelinebaseball16 күн бұрын
Great Question! We project where the ball crossed the plate using Trackman's radar onto the screen thats behind home plate

I guess if you have data on all the pitches that particular pitcher threw all year, you could sort out particular shapes that suggest a particular pitch and assume that a pitcher will try to throw particular pitches in same situations. Once you've narrowed down similar or same shape pitches in similar situations to assume similar intent, then you can measure the variability of those pitches. But there's probably a lot of room for error. Maybe often it's acceptable to just be close but outside rhe strike zone and other times it's more important to throw a strike. I don't think this system allows for that And considering the width of the plate is 12", i kind of doubt that a pitcher that consistently misses by 12" can be successful.

Pitches in situations are already scouted, shapes are already being mirrored by pitching machines that hitters see before in game AB’s and also the strike zone has 2 dimensions to it so being 12” across doesn’t matter as much when they can miss up down or diagonally

This is just trying to reinvent the wheel . The old school guys already had figured this stuff out without the use of computers.

Just throw the ball. Batters, swing the bat. I'm tired of all this science and data and technology. I just wanna see barry bonds batting vs skenes every at bat. Prime pujols vs Chapman. I don't care about this command stuff. Or this fancy spin rate. I wanna see Javier baez swinging at every pitch thrown while Verlander chugs a beer and greinke eats a hot dog. None of this nerd science stuff. ;)
