I miss this car. I had 2 of them, an 89 bought new and the 88 NX SE bought used, and I loved them both (but the 88 one a little more).......

I'm glad to finally see a video from someone who appreciates these cars. I still have my '87 Pulsar NX XE Sportbak. It's engine and transmission are gone, and the car is not restorable due to rust, but I don't have the heart to junk it. I've had it for over 20 years, and put 150,000 miles on it during that time. These are so rare to see, even without the Sportbak. With the Sportbak, it draws stares. Some like WTF?, and some appreciative. I guess it's time to list it for sale. I'm someone would want the Sportbak hatch, if nothing else from the car.

Oh, man, I can relate to that feeling. And yes, the car gets lots of looks. Funny: My red one and white one got stares, but people OFTEN think the silver one is a Delorean.

Would love to hear you speak about some of the experiences you had working for Nissan, as i'm a big Nissan and Toyota fan myself and particularly love their vehicles from what I consider to be the golden age of automotive style -- the late 80's and 90's. I've had many 240sx's and currently have 2 of em. You should make a video talking about your years with Nissan!

These cars came out when I was 12 and I was fascinated by them! The modular aesthetic shared a certain style language with the GoBots and Transformers and Voltrons I was obsessed with .

You need to get the twin cam 16 valve SE version to compliment this one; This is the Base model with SE wheels. I used to have the SE and I loved that car. Mine was red (like the photo you were showing) but I didn't have a SportBak. I loved that car.

Very entertaining video. Do you by any chance know who designed the technically similar Sentra B12 Rz1 sports coupé? Nissan cars of that era are so pleasant to the eye, I would love to honour the persons who came up with these designs.

Bryan, great job on the restoration. I really wish that Nissan would build a car today that captures the quirkiness and fun to drive factor of the Pulsar as well as its successors like the NX1600/2000 and B14 based 200SX. It seemed like while you were at Nissan, they actually designed and built cars! The designs on Nissan products from the 80s and 90s are my all-time favourites and I just wanted you to know that(still own a '94 Altima)

Looking at one of these right now as my "first" car. The one I was learning to drive on died basically immediately and I've been looking for something that's got some late 80's/early 90's character and man do these just embody that. You could tell the designers cared about making a car for enthusiasts and the everyday person, not just appealing to committees and focus groups. A different time in auto manufacturing indeed.

Most fun car I ever owned was an 85 Pulsar NX. I loved that thing. Drove it for many years. I really wish Nissan would create a new version of this car. It shared so much of it's parts with the Sentra which is still around so come on Nissan, just make another front wheel drive two door sporty looking car based off the Sentra. I thought were going to several years ago with the Azeal concept car and then... nothing. Both the first gen and second gen of these NX cars were so cool. We need cars like this again.

looking at picking one of these up soon, I think they're such cool little cars, you rarely see anything modular now which is a shame. it's funny the sportbak looks like a 2 door Pathfinder.

I owed 4 of them: 87, 2x88, and a 90. The sportbak sure altered the look of it but did increase the storage. They were fairly reliable cars for their time.

Man i just wish aftermarket companies would make aftermarket parts to keep this car alive, right now (for me anyways) it's sooooo hard to find any parts without relying on a spare parts car, such an awesome car, the modularity, the style, the idea, so cool. sucks slot of them in the US are becoming parts cars just to keep a handful of pulsars alive. im probably exaggerating, but in my point of view and opinion it's sadly becoming like that, maybe there is a company that specializes in this car that I don't know about (and i hope there is) but the internet comes up short. Love this car and i hope it lasts throughout the years

Hello Bryan, I'm sorry to bother you, I own a 88 Nissan pulsar and was wondering did your Popup headlights ever stop going up and down? On the driver side it stays up, but on the passenger side it doesn't go up. I have the problem on my and cant seem to find anything online on how to fix it. I was just wondering if its happened to you. -Thank You Ryan G.

I'm curious where you went to design school? My grandson is interested in auto design and we're looking into schools. Pasadena??? I have a feeling the kids today are dumping sedans & this, & other cars like it, are becoming "classics" for young adults. These cars are more useful in many ways... Perhaps you could design something new? Or have something on your drawing table? Thanks for sharing! I love your enthusiasm!

Yes the later they made 2.0/16v -DOHC , but only survive for 3 years without pop up headlight Nissan Sentra SER motor , old day Nissan was more interesting, and more committed to quality , but some how later year 86’ and beyond Nissan become weaker, so much transmission problem unbelievable, like changing brake pads , even sometime 3 technician competition with each other to see who’s change the most transmission under warranty . Sad sad very sad for Nissan
