I like this review. As one who became an adult in the 2000s, I still think $18,000+ for a brand new car at absolute base level is a bit insane, BUT....here are a few things I can see: 1. The new generation of car thieves can't drive manuals, so a manual transmission is, in many cases, more secure than the security system itself. Add in your own hidden manual kill switch to the fuel system, and the car is practically unstealable unless they decide to tow it away. 2. Many cars are stolen via "carhacking" instead of carjacking. Those really nice sophisticated systems that make the car super convenient for the driver, such as remote start, drive-by-wire, electric parking brake, also make it easier for hackers with the proper hardware and software to steal it. Again, a DIY hidden kill switch can heavily mitigate these. 3. While you're probably not going to be doing any pulls in this thing, this car is basially a stealth plane for cops. Not loud, not flashy, and not extremely fast, you can rest assured that pending fire, a leg dangling from the trunk, or gunshots, you can ride peacefully from Point A to Point B without getting pulled over unless your registration is expired. 4. Manual transmission almost guarantees that, so long as you maintain the fluid at proper intervals, you're still gonna be driving peaceably to your destination after 100K, 150K, and 200K miles while all the CVT owners are paying for their second transmission rebuild out of pocket...or the people who bought the car used. 5. Not fast or thrusty almost guarantees wife approval with most wives. 6. Manual transmission almost guarantees no one will ever borrow your car or sit in the driver seat. 7. Analog primary controls means the car itself is not beholden to updates that interfere with driving and climate controls. Infotainment, maybe. 8. Manual parking brake means car will not get stuck or roll in the rare instance that an electric one would short out. Overall, if you like to stay low-key, a decent option for a new car.

I used to work at a Nissan dealer and a fun fact about the pre face-lift 3rd gen Versas (2020-2022) is that they came with push button start as standard but obviously that got dropped for the 2023 model year onward
@LyleBialkАй бұрын
I bought a 2024 Nissan Versa, manual transmission, three months ago. So far, loving it. I chose the manual for two reasons: 1) I prefer a manual transmission, I've always chosen a manual whenever buying, new or used if I had the option. 2) Though Nissan has improved the CVT, and the Versa has historically had fewer problems with it due to lighter weight and lower power than other cars, I just wanted to avoid the potential problem. My understanding is that with regular transmission service, the CVT will hold up just fine, but I don't have to wonder. I also wanted to avoid a turbo charged 3 cylinder engine that so many manufacturers are going to. The tried and true, naturally aspirated 4 cylinder was more appealing. Plus, it has port injection - the better option. I recently took the Versa on a 1200 mile road trip. I was completely satisfied with the comfort of the ride, the handling on the freeway, the performance was adequate when traveling at, or near, the posted speed limits, and the gas mileage was fantastic. I have an over-all MPG average of 44.2 MPG. This economy was highlighted for me with every fill-up, usually between $25 and $35 when filling up from near empty. I'm very happy with my purchase, I hope to keep this car for many years, thus, I will do the required maintenance as scheduled or sooner. It is going in for Krown rust protection next week, well before Michigan's salt season begins. I really enjoy inexpensive, economy cars. My first new car, and my favorite, was a 1972 Pinto Runabout. Great car, ruined by unfair media and legal attacks. I've historically been a Ford customer, but they abandoned the economy market, thus they have lost my business. Thank you Nissan for keeping this segment alive with pretty good quality.

When in college, I bought my first car; a second hand.1971 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe with 1.6 liter DOHC engine. It had 104 BHP, a 5 speed manual, and was considered very sporty for the time just below the new Datsun 240 had just been introduced. Your Nissan is probably faster and quieter than my Fiat. In retro spect, I'm sure the seller of my car had turned back the odometer; a serious crime now. After about 20,000 miles, a piston burned right through to the valves. Brand new the Fiat sold for just over $2,500. The Z car sold for $3,500, a bargain, and a big collector item now. One never see a manual trans now. If you don't get stuck in a big traffic jam and pull your left thigh muscle, the Nissan gets the job done well. Your test hit all the spots. Good job.

Great review. It brought back memories. Makes me think of my first car - 1991 Ford Festiva ($9995 CDN and 63 HP, manual) and second car - 2000 Mazda Protege ($21,000 CDN and 121 HP, auto). They were basic cars and were inexpensive to maintain (the only thing I did to the Festiva was a new battery and brakes the last year I owned it). They were not powerful cars but they got me where I needed to go. The only time I needed more power was when I would drive up to Whistler. The poor Festiva would roar in 1st gear going up the mountain roads. The Protege was actually much nicer inside than a lot of subcompact and compact cars today. Padded door armrest and upper part of door. The doors had cloth matching the seats. And the cloth on the seats was so nice, soft and comfortable. Four power windows, AC, sun roof that popped up and slid open. I had the Protege for 17 years before I was t-boned one day. I really miss that car. I always tell friends that these basic, starter cars are amazing. Inexpensive, inexpensive to maintain and fun to drive.
