5:08 Southern Hospitality. Truly a perk of the South. Tennessee especially. Been to Tennessee many times and I’ve been helped tremendously. Had a car break down a while back. The man that pulled over was a tow truck driver. He said “Not much of a mechanic myself but if you want I can take you to the nearest shop” and he did just that. Loaded my car up and took me to the nearest Honda Service Center (I drove a Civic at the time ironically). No charge. Was very grateful for his help! And no, to those folk who will try to spin this story around. I am not a Tennessee Native nor do I live there.

Honda is going to have to step their game up for the next gen (12th gen) Civic Si. They have rested on their laurels and stayed stagnant at the 200hp range since 2006 when the 8th gen Civic Si came out and only went to 205hp when the 10th gen came out only to downgrade -5hp for the 11th gen. Yes, the Si was never about big horsepower, but if the FK8 and FL5 Type R's never came to the our shores, then at least the Si should have been our high-performance top dog with 300hp or at least make a sedan version of the Type R that would've been for North America. There's only ever been two sedan Type R's from Honda (in Japan) that have ever existed: The Japanese-spec DB8 Honda Integra Type R sedan and the FD2 Honda Civic Type R sedan (based on the 8th gen Civic Si platform). Going into the 12th gen Civic platform very soon in the next couple of years, the 12th gen Civic Si needs about 235-240hp. The AP1 and AP2 S2000s pushed more hp than the Civic Si's ever had. 220-225lb-ft of tq would be more than generous, hence making the Civic Si the most powerful Civic ahead of the Civic Hybrid and behind the FL5 Civic Type R. The L15B7 (1.5T) has served its time and it's time to retire it. A 1.8T engine would be more suitable for the next gen Civic Si, or at least upgrade the liter displacement by .3L making the L15 become an L18A, L18B, or L18C codenamed engine as the 1.8T and give the next gen Civic Si the performance Si fans, Si owners, and potential new Si buyers are desperately wanting the next gen Civic Si to be.

I agree with this. I got the 2023 Civic si, its a fun car, I love it but they shouldve atleast gave it more power. Hopefully the 12th gens have more power and I hope they remove the auto start/stop feature and replace the electric e brake with a manual handbrake
@asian_raisinКүн бұрын
My son has the 2019 Si with a K Tuner and all the bolt on mods. The tuned L15B and tiny turbo is easily 290-330hp so it's super fun to drive. My understanding is that the 2.0T from the TypeR and Accord fits perfectly as an upgrade without much fuss so that would be a logical option for more power and torque. Once my son blows up his 1.5 we may have to go the 2.0T route.

I have a 23 forte gt manual and love it, but I wish I could have gotten the civic si. Mine has sunroof and heated seats, which the 25 si finally now has. Plus I have rear vents for my daughter and rear passengers. Plus I don’t hang auto start stop, and I get a good old fashioned manual e brake. I feel auto start stop (which I know I would get into a habit of turning it off every time I get in the car), and pressing a button to set an ebrake in a manual car feels like it would feel wrong. But honestly the radar cruise control and limited slip front diffs would probably make it all worth it. When I want to get down on it, that one wheel peel is really felt in my forte gt manual. Plus the last manual version of a car that’s no longer being made, feels unique. Lots of gt line fortes on the row. Way less GT’s, and less than a thousand manual versions of the GT out there, and I have one. Plus I got my 23 gt manual brand new for 24,000. No mark up, and well under 30k.

I put it on my short list because of Tedwards Si. The manual was an absolute joy to use in test drive BUT sure while driving on a country road but I knew I was moving to Vegas and this would be a chore in crazy traffic. Plus the small trunks in a car now after having a hatch or small SUV is no longer appealing. My options at Costco are limted with a small car. So what did I choose? I feel like Honda is lagging behind with the SI. The type r is as good as ever but you can tell that Honda has made the SI take a back seat. No power boost? No heated steering wheel? No automatic option? No fix for the rev hang? Just overall the SI needs a revamp soon considering the Elantra N Line and Jetta GLI are still in the market, although the competition has been dropping out recently. The Forte GT is on its way out and that was what I would say the best competitor for the SI considering it had cooled seats, a DCT, ONE more horsepower (crazy, I know) and no rev hang in the manual. If kia ever decides to make a K4 GT, and even if they don't, Honda NEEDS to make updates to the SI. It's starting to feel dated.

@@TheUnreadableUser I mean you're critiquing the Si based on criteria that Honda didn't spec it for. The priority with the Si is driver engagement. Most of the improvements aren't visible from the exterior. They added Type R suspension components and stiffened the chassis. It handles tighter than every car you mentioned. It has the best manual transmission and steering feel.It's never been offered with an automatic because that's not the objective of the car. It's sole purpose is affordable, practical driver engagement. That has always been Honda's M.O. with the Si. The other cars you mentioned maybe have more technology, comfort, and power, but none of them match the driver inputs offered by the Si. Honda built the car to a price point and had to pick and choose what made the cut. They picked driver feel and handling and it excels in that and is the best in class on that criteria. Simply put, if you care more about creature comforts, technology, and having an automatic option....the Civic Si was probably never the right car for you in the first place, and that's why the others exist.

They could put it at 230 or 240 and not take sales from the type r which is a completely different car. 200 is not enough for the current market. They say they won’t add a little more sound deadening to save weight but can’t add a little horsepower. And you say “just buy the type r” which is 20,000 more. You can still be a fanboy and not agree with everything Honda does.

Power is fine but needs a bespoke motor like the old SI’s. And a 8000rpm redline
@Localtraveler2376Ай бұрын
@@TT92348 you’re getting the same horsepower you got 20 years ago with a heavier car.
@ChrisM-dx8upАй бұрын
@@Localtraveler2376 Sure but the civic is also probably going to last much longer than any of its competitors. If you care enough for closer to 230 or 240, you should personally go get it tuned (which would probably still be cheaper than a Jetta GLI or Mazda3 turbo) but I think most people looking to get the si are probably happy with power figures alongside its reliability.

It's still a nice car, the 07-?? was a weird shape, but last of the good drivetrain, the new one is sharp, but not particularly fun to drive. 200hp is fine at 2800lbs but at 3800lbs it's a little slow.. Think the hybrid is a better choice.. sadly even with a cvt the hybrid is quicker than this thing. Convinced Honda has lost touch with the market.
@muhammadh.1565Ай бұрын
Interestingly the hybrid actually didn’t have a CVT nor a proper transmission at all

Wait where did you get the 3800 lbs from? This car is around ~2950.

200 hp is pathetic for a "sports" car today
@antoinelee-thomas9536Ай бұрын
Tell that to Toyota and Subaru with the GR86 and BRZ with 224hp and Honda with the 230-240hp on the AP1 and AP2 S2000s, which is where the next gen Civic Si rightfully belongs. If Honda reads comments like they say they do, the 12th gen Civic Si really needs 240hp and an engine upgrade if they can't do anymore than what they claim they can't do out of the factory. If you can't get 230-240hp out of their 1.5T, then add .3L of displacement and make the engine a 1.8T and that will solve the performance issue that people are asking and begging this car to be.
