To get the family over the river and through the woods, the 3-row Lexus TX will get the job done with a premium attitude. Available in three models (350, 500h Hybrid and 550h+ PHEV), it seats up to seven. And yes, adults can sit in the wayback. Built on the same platform as Toyota Grand Highlander, the TX is assembled in Indiana. Tom Voelk checks out the entire lineup in Austin, Texas and finds there are some key differences between each powertrain.
Lexus provided transportation and lodging for this TX event. Opinions remain purely Tom’s.

Great info. Always look forward to your reviews. I have a question please... how is the TX ride compared to LX600 ride? I have LX600 but I feel the ride is somewhat rough. I wonder if I should trade my LX for a TX. Would appreciate your thoughts please.
@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 8 ай бұрын
The only LX600 I've driven is the Ultra Luxury model, kind of designed for chauffeuring. It's been a long time since I've driven it so hard to compare. I suspect you'd like the ride of the TX350 or 550h+ if you think the LX ride is too rough. The TX500h F Sport is a little more firm. I suggest a test drive to confirm what I'm saying.

@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 3 ай бұрын
Well, I'm good at some things, but will admit I miss things every so often. Just trying to do the reviews that I would like to see. Traffic Jam Assist works at low speeds and tends to use the ADAS sensors to watch the car ahead in addition to lane stripes. It also tends to be a little more responsive to vehicles ahead slowing and speeding up so there's less of a gap for others to drive into. Some systems are "hands off the wheel" for a longer period.

Tom, excellent review as usual... But elephant- in- the-room you only touched on very briefly and I was surprised didn't return to in your color-coded summation - is that is every model / trim except for the 350 is only six passengers (!), on a vehicle this large and expensive?! Middle bench should be made available on all trim and model (powertrain- drivetrain) levels. Much more flexible configuration in addition to obvious passenger count. If anything, the bench should be the default, and the captains chairs optional (perhaps no-cost).
@Karmazov
@Karmazov 8 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct. Proper seating for five adults is essential in an SUV and it should be a requirement for a large SUV.
@DrivenCarReviews
@DrivenCarReviews 8 ай бұрын
It's a demand thing. Nearly every automaker says buyers don't want a bench in row two (yes, surprises me too) and that it's offered in base models as a concession to those that want it. In fact, the 350 offers captain's chairs as an upgrade and Lexus believes the vast majority of buyers will go for it.
@springertube
@springertube 8 ай бұрын
@@DrivenCarReviews Tom, I get that... But it's a tired old song the manufacturers have been singing,... and seems to be somewhat of a chicken or egg thing. Consumers creating a market demand or the other way around? Half the people I know that have gotten captains chairs wish they either would have gotten the bench, after experiencing the former's limitations, or wish that it had been but was not available. I am in a car enthusiast group, people of all stripes, and this comes up all the time - that is, exasperation with the "you can't get this with that" routine. There may be a few others that come up but almost uniquely the Honda Pilot and the Nissan Pathfinder offer the bench in the top trim, you just have to be careful in checking the right box. With the Infiniti QX60 the top trim only comes with captain's chairs, at least as of 2023, but you can option the next closest trim down to within about 95% with that highest trim's features - with a bench. I think aniline leather and a black roof are a few of the only things you can't option, unfortunate but not huge losses. In short, give the consumer a choice for heaven's sake.

"Very clean and easy pass to the third row" - show, not tell! In these jeans, it should be piece of cake. What a disappointing presentation by the Lexus rep. The three-row crossover is a flawed concept anyway - just buy a proper minivan, no one drives them off road. And this is what Toyota should make - a Lexus minivan. Minivans are considered limos in Asia, you should see Chinese luxury minivans. Spacious and sensible, can get in and out in a dignified manner.

@@DrivenCarReviewsI have three SUVs (2 Lexus and 1 Merc) with pano roof. I only got them because they came with the package. I don’t use any of the sunroofs and I’m glad I have the option not to get them

Sunroof is pretty useless. My current vehicle has one, I opened it like five times in seven years. I also had a convertible car, but drove with the top up most of the time - noise, dirt, heat and UV did not entice to open the top. Sunroof's only purpose is to stand up, sticking your head out, and shout drunken songs.

Sorry, but a vehicle has to have some outer looks, which is not in this model. I could not wake.up.and look at this vehicle paying this price. Even take $10k off and the looks in and out would turn me off. Sorry, I am just being honest.

The TX is big letdown for me. It is ugly, base model is underpowered for what it is, and the hybrid models are overpriced. I could look over the ugly design and swallow the price tag for the hybrid drivetrain, but the lack of bench seats for the second row is a deal breaker. Capstains chairs make vehicles unusable for my family. Lexus, why don't you give us the bench seat as an option? I'll have to wait for the 2024 GX to replace my current vehicle. Very disappointed.

I get it. But nearly all automakers say that people don't really go for bench seats. They'll provide it but generally only on lower models.

@@DrivenCarReviews We are a family of five and our parents often stay with us for extended periods of time. I need a car that has seats for everybody and cargo capacity large enough for carrying our stuff. I know minivans are spacious, and I have an aging Odyssey. Where I live, used Sieanna's sell near the MSRP and new ones are either impossible to find or you have to pay a dealer markup (upwards of $55k). Toyota is now offering two new vehicles that could give more options to potential Sieanna customers but the lack of bench seat (in hybrid models) makes the TX and Grand Highlander useless for minivan families. I don't want to shop around different brands because reliability is our biggest concern (our Oddyses has been giving us headaches recently). Now I am even thinking of getting a used LX 570. Yea, it is old school, technology is ancient, and it is not fuel efficient. But it is the closest thing to a nice, comfortable, somewhat spacious, and reliable vehicle for my whole family.

I’m glad you’re disappointed. Because I knew this was going to happen 😂😁. I called it on June 8th when this was unveiled that the tx was a letdown. I’m so glad it turned out that way 😁
