The Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Cadillac Escalade account for 50% of all large SUV sales in the US. GM makes 340,000 of them every year and exports about 80,000 to 31 countries. They’re made in GM’s plant in Arlington, Texas, which is said to be the most profitable assembly plant in the world. We estimate they generate $20 billion in revenue for GM and about $4 billion in profits. Autoline Daily.

Better headline: "1.2 million GMT T1XX platform based vehicles built annually!", inclusive of the Colorado/Canyon & Silverado/Sierra. While it's good to have 50% of the full-size SUV market, it's really just 14 models in this segment. I'm more impressed that Toyota sold 430,000 Rav4s in the U.S. alone, which is still less than all of GM's compact SUV sales. As for mid-size SUVs, Ford sold 176,000 units, Toyota sold 136,000 units, versus the 110,000 units sold by GM.

@@cadsux when you own half of the large SUV segment the profits follow. Almost Half of 2021 Cadillac Escalades Have Sold for over $100K The redesigned 2021 Escalade starts at $77,490 for the base Luxury trim, but GM reports that 43 percent of buyers paid more than $100,000 for theirs. "[The] all-new Cadillac Escalade retook market leadership in its segment in Q4," GM stated in its 2020 fourth-quarter sales report. It sold 9454 Escalades in that time, including 2020 models. GM also said the Escalade's fourth-quarter retail deliveries were up 19 percent. Car & Driver

GM always did trucks and SUVs better than their cars. Not too surprising they would give up on most of them. This is a nice looking vehicle and proves that efficient and clean diesels still have a place in the world. Too bad VW couldn't figure that out. Stuns me how much these big rigs are costing anymore. I read somewhere that they priced them high (to offer discounts later) and to help subsidize the development costs of their EVs... of which they made very little profit. Really liked the place where you taped this video. Every shot was well done and a pleasure to watch. Your red light/green light feature is still one of the best summaries in the car review industry.

I wish they would bring back the two door Tahoe and Yukons for people who still want a full size suv but with a shorter wheelbase. They used to make them from 1992 thru 1999, and they were offered with a diesel option as well back then (6.5L V8 TDI). That super efficient little 3.0L Duramax would be the perfect engine for a modern day version of that vehicle!

One thing to be mindful of in the HC: it gives up almost 200 pounds in payload to the RST. Take off 800# tonque weight and 250# for fuel/DEF and it starts to matter. I agree a diesel HC doesn't make a lot of sense unless you have a light trailer, but max towing capacity is less important than tongue weight.

Now I can fit five rolls of TP in the cargo area….a year ago you couldn’t find five rolls of TP….at least not in one stop…. FYI you can get a fully specced out Premier 4WD and save about $5,000 over High Country…….$10,000 over a Yukon Denali with similar equipment. The only major difference between Premier and HC is some options available for Premier are standard on HC. The other major differences are the 6.2 is a High Country exclusive, HUD is standard and running boards are power on HC.

Look at the cost first more expensive than gas . Oil changed way more expensive everything is more with diesel. Plus how long would you keep it? Worst on pollution because they are not incorporate with electric ⚡️. Gasoline truck cheaper to fix no one keep their vehicles more than 5 years normally also cheaper running them because of electric combined less pollution that is my opinion. If you want power, speed and efficiency gas/electric or the new truck Tesla all electric and other dealers make them now. Now pollution is debatable I think electric could pollute more or the same that is debatable. Both trucks gas and diesel are great diesel are way better now for acceleration and better pollution control and low noise.

Chevy mechanics I talk with seem universally frustrated with diesel emission controls, their impact on reliability and their additional maintenance costs...and that's before we inhale our next lungful of air. Reliability and simplicity used to be diesel engines' strong suits. I wouldn't expect to hitch up my step ladder, open the hood and then try to do anything more than check the oil with power plants like this.
@rightlanehog3151
@rightlanehog3151 3 жыл бұрын
The problems with Diesel emission systems today mirror the 1970s when catalytic converters and other new components wrestled with carburetors and other outdated technologies on gasoline engines. Eventually gas engines became cleaner and more reliable than ever before but there certainly was a messy transition period.
@JakeRoot
@JakeRoot 3 жыл бұрын
But back when reliability and simplicity were their strong suits, they were also remarkably awful for health and air quality. Now, they're far cleaner but only mildly more difficult to maintain (if it all...this comes from a long time TDI owner); it's more than a fair trade-off.

Do I assume correctly that the "some minivans" are roomier for luggage vs this Tahoe is the gasoline version of Chrysler Pacifica with stow-and-go second and third rows? Assuming the towing is not needed the PHEV version of Pacifica allows second row of seats to be entirely removed thus having the same cargo capacity as gasoline version.

The Tahoe to get has a v8 without that stupid cylinder deactivation solenoid assembly in the valley that likes to fail frequently, or gush oil after 70k miles lol. What I am sayin is... the last great tahoe was made before 2005. Bummer dude.

On the bright side that diesel is almost as powerful as the old v8, but it needs a turbo to make that power(extra wearable parts that are also expensive), and the fuel mileage sounds great until you see the price of a bottle of that stupid fuel aditive that goes in the blue hole there... Spend half the cost of the modern tahoe blinging out an 04 LT with a 5.3, and you'll have yourself a way better vehicle that will outlive the new ones.

Well there are a lot of people in United States that do well financially and 80 K is expensive I agree with you but there is creative financing and leasing I guess it depends on your station in life and how much you actually want to put towards a vehicle vs Other things and how much you can afford
