Tom, what amazes me more than the Hummer EV and its plethora of abilities/capabilities; is the fact that an automaker is following through with a vision/concept that was shown at major automotive trade shows in the basic form presented at said show/s. @tailwatcher25002 жыл бұрын
Lmao because it'll do so well in trade work. Just have your crew stop mid day to charge on your dime. The problem with your thought is that the average truck buyer doesn't actually need a truck, the actual beginning of the problem, if people bought what they need instead of status it would do more for the environment than EVs in general. I pull a trailer the majority of the week and not one current EV is any where near as a capable as my 6.0l f350 from 2005. My last 2 tanks was good for over 700 miles, 20 minutes in fill up, that's around 7 charges for an EV for 3.5 hours, if I had an extra 3.5 hours in my week I'd rather spend it fishing not charging.

Hummer EV = GM's electric vehicle prowess turned up to 11. Will be interesting to see how Ultium and all the tech translates into the more rational vehicles in GM's pipeline (LYRIQ, Equinox EV, etc). And yeah, at 47 MPGE the Hummer EV is not efficient compared to a Bolt, but compared to something else roughly its size - let's say a GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, which gets 17 MPG combined, weighs 2000-3000 lbs less, and doesn't have all the crazy off road tech, or ridiculous power, or removable roof panels, or frunk, etc), the Hummer EV is pretty brilliant.
@0hypnotoad02 жыл бұрын
A straight comparison would be the old Hummer H2, it got 12 mpg. For fairness, if it were made with todays engines, it'd probably get 15 mpg. So far it's been the case that equivalently sized EVs will get about 4x the efficiency of a gas model (more specifically, 3x on the highway, 5x in the city) but because of the extra weight and poor aerodynamics associated with trucks, I could see that average dipping down to 3.5x the efficiency - so far this seems to be the case, looking at the ratings the F150 Lightning received from the EPA.
@SokemRokemRobot2 жыл бұрын
The Hummer EV costs $110,000, and will take hours to fully charge at a charging station. The GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 costs $63,000, and will get back on the road in 10 minutes after filling up with diesel. BTW, the AT4 get 22 mpg city/26 mpg highway.
@grantman642 жыл бұрын
@@SokemRokemRobot We’re in the early stages of a transition from ICE vehicles to electric ones. Today, your AT4 is a more practical choice, but the Hummer EV (over the top as it is) shows us what is possible. I think EVs will follow a path like iPhones: the first one was game-changing, expensive, and something of a consumer electronics celebrity. And by 2022 standards, the OG iPhone is very much obsolete. Today’s Hummer EV will (I believe) be seen the same way in 10 years or even less. As battery and charging tech continues to advance, we’ll see large vehicles that can go 300-400 miles on a charge, weigh around 2 tons, and be able to at least partially recharge in nearly the same time as filling a gas tank today.

GM just changed what it means to be an EV. For years all we've heard is drag reduction (making the body and wheels ugly), weight reduction (making the interior look like an empty closet), and coding nerds needed to squeeze every electron for max efficiency. GM said forget all that isht: just make the thing have a battery big enough to power a battleship and you don't need to worry about drag or weight or efficiency. Make it how we WANT it, not how it "has to be". GDF'ing right. That is 'Murica!

@Falinzin2 жыл бұрын
These things are trash when you get them on a difficult trail, same for the Rivian, 1000/800 horsepower is split equally between the wheels, with no option to lock the differentials. With a standard 4x4 w/ rear, center and front lockers all the horsepower is transferred to the wheel that needs it, and extra torque from the torque converter. What does this mean in practice? A 400 HP ICE 4x4 can lock center, front & rear differentials and transfer all 400 horsepower to the wheel that needs it to climb an obstacle, a 4x4 electric vehicle will always be limited (until they start designing them with engageable clutch packs) to their horsepower figure divided by 4 because it's an equal split between the wheels. For dirt roads this will do, but so will a subaru. We had a guy come out with a Rivian R1T to our local 4WD meetup, we spent more time snatching him out of obstacles a frickin' stock FJ cruiser was clearing than we did actually wheeling, I hope he doesn't come back with that truck, it's not anywhere near as capable as they claim it is.

He said that they were taking orders for this new truck, but bemoaned the fact that GM has told its dealers not to expect any sizable production of Chevy’s best selling truck as an EV because the battery production needed is giving priority to the new Hummer EV. These six-figure giants will bring GMC some great profits, but shortchange it’s primary customer base. The old Hummer was ugly and this new one is no better. Yes, it will certainly be more environmentally friendly, but as with the original, this beast will likely be bought by the very wealthy and never be taken off-road. Weight + no locking differentials and/or torque converters = bad time on a serious off road trail. We had a guy with a Rivian R1T come out to our local clubs trail meet at Flexrock 4x4 in NY, we spent more time winching him out of obstacles a stock FJ cruiser was clearing than we did actually wheeling.

@@Falinzin interesting. In theory they could simulate a locker with electronics because of independent wheel control. All that aside , Tires need to be way bigger for all that weight to get the contract pressure down. But yeah... When I've got 9576 lbs of torque headed to my wheels (171 ft lbs of torque from a 2.4 L 4 cylinder * 56:1 crawl ratio) .. when they say 10,000 lbs of torque I'm like... Meh ... There are vehicles doing way more than mine like the Rubicon at 100:1 crawl or the bronco with almost 100:1 crawl also and way more engine torque.

Only 25% heavier than a Rivian, yet consumes 50% more energy.

Unfortunately for that female she was not aware you are in a more echo friendly vehicle. It's going to hurt her more when she educates her self about the super truck.

They missed a trick instead of wing mirrors use the cameras …also that’s bad rain coming just coz windows open that’s really stupid . Do they have a rear view camera mirror like on land rovers etc .
@DrivenCarReviews2 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the cameras on the mirrors can be called up. Yet it has a digital rear view mirror option.

Sadly, wing mirrors are still mandated by law for cars sold in the US.
