Over the last decade or more, truck manufacturers have gone to extreme lengths to lighten their trucks to make them more capable, handle and brake better, tow more, haul more, and be more efficient. We're talking about aluminum engines and bodies, composite beds, light weight high strength steel frames, etc, etc. And the media bragged them all up, claiming them to be way better than the heavier models. Now all of a sudden these very very Heavy monsters are so awesome, what happened??? Are all the virtues of lighter suddenly meaningless?, were they all along? what tires are they using to keep them usable and capable to haul anything?, Lots of questions need answering.

Main problem is that range and the size of the battery. when you do crawling uphills.. you kind of use more of the batterys capacity thus reduce the range if you are far out the wilderness. If I ever planned to get that vehicle, I probably add a solar power, wind power at the roof or the pick up trunk. Anything to extend the range and "survivability" in the wilderness, Off course that if you want to do overlanding or off roading in the wilderness. might be smart to get a small compact generator on gas in case you are far out in the wilderness and no charge station miles away. For now, I prefer gas driven off road cars, until any car companies who do electric off road cars, do address those issues.

While people rail against the $112,000 price tag and the lack of paint colours, I say this is JUST THE START! If you put it on a 4-year (48 month) lease for your personal company, your payments are $2400 per month which is now a tax deductible expense AND with depreciation, your end-of-lease buyout will be less than $15,000 and you will get $7000 back from the federal government for an EV purchase and some states will give you $2000 to $6000 back so your buyout is now mostly paid for! To customize this truck, put a full-colour Vinyl Wrap on it like Mossy Oak Camouflage, Solid Red, Blue, Black or even Army Green. Add a custom rear truck bed canopy with lockable side compartments and roof rack. Then add a rear swing-out cage for the tires and TWO 80 lbs propane tanks and add some bush bars with winches front and back and I would even spend money on a no-noise propane fuel cell that can recharge the Hummer WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING! That means your range goes up to 1000 miles depending upon propane tank size which you can also use for the portable BBQ and campsite hot water sink/shower system. V

Doesn't really look useless off road though, looks pretty capable to me. Though I'd rather have a TRX and have some engine sounds while I drive along.

With the amount of money they are charging for this silly rig it better be able to climb mt. Everest!

May I ask why the Hummer EV twins should be able to do things that more expensive gasoline trucks with lighter gross weights can’t even accomplish? The most expensive fully loaded range topping *Edition 1* trim is only $112,000, not $212,000+ like most Mercedes-Benz G-wagons that can NOT climb Mt. Everest. There is now a gasoline powered *Jeep* that you can buy that can cost MORE than this but doesn’t offer half the off-road _and_ on-road capabilities, amenities, performance, and features. I can’t be the only person laughing at all these cringeworthy comments.

What’s crazier is that this thing is not allowed on certain residential streets for its weight problem.

It's mentioned that being 9,000 lbs is not a good thing when going over obstacles or on loose soil and I'm curious as to why. Since it can simulate dual lockers is the weight still relevant?

Looks like there's some kind of "axle" connecting really low on the rear wheels. Won't those get damaged? Or get hung up on rocks?
@csommer44922 жыл бұрын
It's a lower control arm for the independent suspension. They're quite beefy, unlikely to be damaged unless the driver is going quickly over terrain they shouldn't be.
