The Hummer EV is for early adopters and poseurs - and there's nothing wrong with that. For us mere mortals, the Silverado/Sierra EVs appear to give you much of the EV goodness of the Hummer but on a narrower track and with a midgate to overcome the tiny bed problem. And once they get through the loaded first editions, the Silverado/Sierra twins should be available at (somewhat) saner prices and option levels.

I figured I'd change the drive unit fluid as it had 120k on it. The fluid was perfect, the rest of the car is perfect, I still have 8 years and 80 k warranty on the new battery upgrade GM just put in for free. No alternator, starter, sensors, exhaust, etc. Once my warranty is up I can easily replace charger, controller, etc myself, they're just boxes.

Of note it does exist a DCFC that works with a 240V split phase input. Delta makes a 25KW DCFC unit that works on a 125A 240V circuit (and costs roughly $5K). So you don't necessary need 3-phase for DCFC. That being said a 125A 240V circuit is still not practical for most residential installations.

Regarding the remote mirror, it looks like they haven't changed it, my 2018 Sierra only does it if I hold the lock button down on the remote after I set it in the menu. Or maybe it's a glitch and it is supposed to do it every time. My wife's Mazda stows the mirrors automatically, which I prefer, although you need to be careful in the winter - if it's crusted over with ice it can get stuck.
@joshualewis393

You might have to take the truck back to the dealer and have them reload the software for the mirror issue. Have you tried locking the truck and then holding down the lock button? But if the setting is resetting itself, then it's $115k software glitch that the dealer might be able to fix by the software reloading.

Crab mod is oddly helpful in certain trailer parking situations. You can turn the trailer but not have to put your vehicle in a bad spot for your next move if your trying to get say a camper nice and straight in a space. I'm curious how well EVs function in cold weather. Will it reduces battery life? What about heating?
@jghall00
@jghall00 2 жыл бұрын
Cold weather saps the range. My EV is a 2017 with 100 miles of range and I lose around 30% of my range between running the heater and cold temps outside. Keeping the battery conditioned using L2 charger at home mitigates the loss somewhat. For a daily driver, it's not really an issue since new EVs have well over 200 miles of range and will be topped off at home. For road tripping, depends on charging infrastructure, distance, and speed.
@joshuarosen465
@joshuarosen465 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the heating system. With resistance heat you can lose 40% of your range, with a heat pump you lose much less than that. The new Tesla's have heat pumps, older ones had resistance heaters

So when it comes to price on EV’s please keep in mind the battery size is a cost to the manufacture that can not be overcome. More range means more price. Want a EV truck with any kind of range that’s fast…yeah that takes a ton of energy so the battery is big. Say it costs something like $250-$350 Per KWH of battery. That math is the same for everyone which levels the playing field for manufactures unlike traditional vehicles

any idea other than software what caused the issue for the clip for #3 on the hate list when you got stranded? what did the GMC dealer say? I also relate to the folding mirror conundrum with the 2019 Escape SE I drive for work... I don't like the "Auto Shut Off" function if it sits too long, and i need my car running sometimes while out working on a scene... it's so annoying, just like auto start-stop being disabled by default every time too.

300 Kw means nothing to most of us, why don't you guys make a video explaining how power and charge is measured on electric vehicles? Thanks for creating awesome videos.

Maybe they can also map it back to a comparison with gasoline fuel efficiency for a modern truck? Especially as real-world MPGe don't seem to match EPA estimates, sometimes half less than predicted. A point of reference, the Hummer EV has more than twice the battery of a Tesla Plaid, nearly 100kWh larger than Rivian, and similar range as both. The Hummer is/was never about efficiency, but massive vehicle, massive power, and massive power usage. 300kW is an incredible amount of energy. Most home level 2 chargers produce less than 10kW, depending on setup and vehicle. An average home central air uses about 4-5 kW of energy, similar to an electric oven.

They do have a number of videos on the subject. But kW is a measure of power, kWh is measure energy which is simply a power for a given amount of time (ie the 215kWh battery of the Hummer could theoretically put out 215kW for a time of 1 hour before it runs out). A space heater usually maxes about 1800W or 1.8kW, so being able to accept 300kW is a lot of power during charging. Many many standard households worth of power while charging.

8:47 I've always loved this 🤣🤣🤣 everyone commemorates GM for a 3 second 0-60, but in reality it's not 3 seconds (then again it didn't even achieve its bold 3 second quote), you have to wait for the vehicle to prep itself, a TRX can get 0-60 in 4.5 yes it's slower but all you have to do is press the gas petal, there's no warm up 💀💀

Bigger batteries take longer to charge than smaller batteries. Did you know it takes longer to fill up a 3/4 ton truck gas tank compared to a compact car? Crazy how that works huh? It doesn’t take “several days” to charge this. That would be like saying if you filled up your duramax truck with diesel through a straw it would take DAYS. Yeah, maybe it would, but what idiot would do that? With the HummerEV, it’s unlikely anyone would be foolish enough to charge it from 0-100% first of all, and if they did, they wouldn’t do it with 120V power.

I’m surprised that you would say that Tesla does not offer self driving. From the videos I have watched, Teslas can drive themselves on any street, not just a few designated roads. If this is incorrect, perhaps you could explain why all the FSD videos on KZbin are showing the incorrect story.
