Driver Accidentally Hits Student on Motorcycle in 'Promposal' Gone Wrong

An Arizona high school student driving a Porsche ran a stop sign and collided with a student on a motorcycle on school grounds. According to lawyers for the motorcyclist who have filed a notice of claim against the school and the city, the driver of the Porsche says he had permission from the officer and school administration to "run a stop sign in the school parking lot as part of [a] plan to ask a girl to an upcoming school dance." The school says it can not comment due to ongoing litigation. The officer claims that the driver of the Porsche was supposed to slow roll through the stop sign but sped through it. The driver of the Porsche has not been charged. Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero has more.

"Reckless endangerment is a criminal offense that makes it illegal to act in a way that puts others in danger or the property of others in danger even if that was not your intent." All of the involved in the planning and execution, including the only one that got hurt, may be held accountable. A high school student is at an age in which the brain is not fully developed and we know we do stupid things at this age, but the adults involved, especially the cop, should know better than get involved and know that the kids were likely to mess up things.

The fact that there was NO cones, no signs, no ANYTHING at all warning potential drivers, cyclists, or pedestrians is what really scares me. Not only did they plan to "Roll through a stop sign" but the principal didn't even bother putting up ANY warnings whatsoever, and even decided this idea in the first place was a good one!! The school and the Porsche driver definitely deserved to be sued in this instance, and this kid needs to get his compensation for this accident. I not too long ago was in a very simular accident like this where somone near school grounds decided to roll through a stop sign at 30mph at 8:00am while I was riding my bike to school, and broke my left collarbone because of it. So I know this guy's pain he is dealing with. Some people make decisions like this, and it blows my mind that they think its Ok to do.

I'm confused as to why people need to be constantly warned about things we studied for on road tests? Do people not know other vehicles and people exist on the road? Does nobody look both ways before crossing the road? One time I jaywalked through a street with my baby in a stroller and about halfway on the busy side, all traffic SEEMED to have stopped, but I have common sense and a lack of trust in human beings so I waited, and so glad I did because one part of the road still had cars zooming past, and I stood my ground and didnt let anyone force me to go with that stupidity going on. I know both the victim and the perpetrator. I've known the principal for over 5 years. I remember when he ambitiously wanted to create this school for academic/STEM success and the school was extremely successful. I wouldn’t say morals. It’s not immoral to plan to have a student slowly and safely roll through a stop sign for a prom proposal. What is immoral is when you decide to blow through the stop sign and not check to see if anyone is in the intersection first. That is on the driver. I'm assuming it probably had something to do with them getting fake pulled over for running the stop sign, hence why the officer was there, and that the girlfriend would think it was serious and then he'd ask her to prom then.

He was going to run a stop sign, the cop is going to pull them over, then instead of writing a ticket the officer asks if she will go to prom with him. It's a pretty simple prank/proposal once you think about it, but is obviously dangerous if precautions aren't taken.

I put the blame on the school resource officer and the principle. They could of stopped this dangerous plan and had the resource officer pull the kid over for no reason for his proposal but instead the principle thought it was a good idea to let this kid act in a reckless manner.

There’s nothing wrong with setting up something like that, the part that was wrong was that they didn’t have the road blocked. Plus I believe that the student wasn’t allowed to speed through it. He took advantage of his opportunity to show off and run the sign but the people didn’t think he’d be flying at 60mph

I feel like both the driver and the victim could sue the school or officer. Because one was given permission and encouraged to violate road laws on a school road, and the other was nearly killed by this negligent proposal. And everyone now has trauma.

This is why a lot of schools have closed campuses and do not allow students to drive their vehicles during the school day. Because if a district allows for it, then they're more than likely going to face a lawsuit at some point due to stupidity resulting in an incident similar to this one. Something happened at my school district 20-30 years ago....only that incident resulted in the deaths of four students.

I dont get this whole thing of imma pretend to be arrested than propose too/ask to this person to prom. its not funny for anyone but yourself and it just seems stupid if you have to come up with some elaborate idea just to get the courage to ask someone to marry you or go to a school dance. And i know some people will say "well its the memory we have from it that will stick with us." Oh yeah i always want to remember when I cried because I nearly thought my loved one was going to be arrested but all they did was ask me out haha best memories.

As a motorcyclist, the first thing you should do after a violent crash like that student had is NOT TO GET UP right away. Adrenaline will overcome the pain but you don't know if your neck or head was injured and moving will cause further damage if it was. Wait for medical services first to arrive to assess the situation.
