It looked like she was doing 65 mph at the least and it didn't look like she braked either. The only reason she survived probably is because of the car she was driving. If the driver is found culpable and competent, which it sounds like law enforcement expects to be the case, this needs to be treated as willful murder, not merely manslaughter or merely an "accident" as if the outcome could have been expected to be anything other than what it was. There is no intersection in any heavily traveled area in the entire region in the middle of the day where someone coming through at that speed would not kill people one way or another. Looked at the intersection threw satellite view. Had a good long stretch to get up to that crazy speed. I don't care if she was drunk, upset, distracted, on her phone, in a hurry, unfamiliar with the road she was on, dropped hot coffee in her lap. Nobody has a reason to be traveling at that insane speed. Even if she was full on looking dead ahead the moment she saw the light was red there would have been no time to even attempt to stop. No matter what other things might have been contributing, the sheer speed, and the cars that she hit being impacted on their side made this horrific. Take away the speed and this might have been just a run of the mill crash. With just injuries and property damage and no loss of life.

Same here. And that particular United Oil's gas station, is one of the most beautiful gas stations in the city. Not only is this the more heartbreaking because it was deliberate. But it was a horrific way to die. I've attended traffic accidents, because of being with the LAPD Photo Unit. Sadly, I doubt most of these deaths were instantaneous. They were from thermal injuries. So, the driver deserves to spend the rest of her life in prison.

It may not matter if she's with the father of her child as far as the accident goes; but a fatherless child IS a big deal. Let's be perfectly clear and honest about that. It definitely matters if a child has a father, and I can point you to a video that sites stats that prove that kids always do better and stay out of trouble and jail/prison when there's an adult man living with them. And *any* man, too; not just "perfect" fathers. The video is: "The Man-made Plague of Fatherlessness", on the "men are good" channel.
