I was told by a veteran CHP officer to not travel in the #1 or left most lanes after dark because that's the place and time of day you'll most likely encounter wrong way drivers. Use those lanes to pass then get back on the right side of the highway.

@ Hear cars racing about during the day and evening especially on weekends. Sirens all day and night long and we’re in a pretty decent part of town, Huntington Beach. Taking freeways is a crapshoot if you’re going to get stuck in traffic for hours because of some moron or always having near misses due to people racing on the freeways cutting in and out of lanes like they just robbed someone, being California they might have. Power going out around here or somewhere else in the city is a regular occurrence from people crashing into poles on weekends along with reports of hit and runs.

They do this all over California, when 3-4 officers will handle the call, they'll have 10-15 standing around chatting and laughing and a Sgt. or two and they don't tell them to leave to handle other calls.
