I wonder if the introduction actually takes place after Tanner rejects McKenzie, and he now has to escape the garage. Remember? McKenzie - "Tanner! Now you get yourself back here Tanner! You come back here, and you pick up this badge! Tanner! You just bought yourself a whole lot of trouble fella! This is your last chance Tanner!" From there McKenzie tracked him through the garage, and chased him out, into the streets of New York. Later, Tanner left town in the end sequence.

Great stuff. After looking to the game's data, Tanner has (in Undercover) 1 new message, 2 new messages or 3 new messages, but one file says he has 4 new messages. Found in Driver/XA/NMAJ.XA file, 4th segment of 8.
