I love how 1978 is yellow, vibrant, and pretty, but 2006 is more blue, dark, and gritty. While 2006 may not be as dark as the game portrays, you have to consider that TK was in prison for 28, and the world looks so different when he finally gets out, so we're probably seeing it through his eyes.
@rlfpotatoking9253
@rlfpotatoking9253 Жыл бұрын
Yeah i love the different feels of the eras, 1978 is obviously the best - that's where this game really shines. 2006 is cool with the new cars but it's so blue that it washes out the colours and makes everything look depressing and bland - it makes me want to go back to 1978. I think someone also mentioned to me before that the difference in colour could be due to the sunglasses that TK is wearing, in 1978 the sunglasses tint is yellow and in 2006 he has new sunglasses with blue tint so in that case yes we would be looking at the world through his eyes

Parallel Lines had a wonderfully unique method of storytelling. I still think that a GTA game with a story set in two different eras would be insanely interesting.

I agree, a storyline where character switching also switches time would be really interesting. It could tell two stories in different time periods simultaneously that influence each other. Like experiencing the 'origin story' and the current day activities of a criminal organization.

a game i really wanted people to talk about more, is beyond good and evil. not only the game is marvelously paced but the photography mechanic also being tied somewhat to your money in the game actually makes you pay attention to stuff around you and immerse yourself better in the world. that aside i miss af the time that ubisoft cared about making the medium of games go forward somehow.

Its worth mentioning that there is a GoG version of the game for PC that allows it to play on modern pc's and fixes etc. At the time I liked parallel lines a lot. I can agree that everything is spaced so far away and there isn't much to do with your money. The story is kinda bland but the time gap was really interesting and as you said. Not something we might ever see again. I look forward to seeing the San Francisco review.

It is an interesting game, I really like the time skip, and even part of the story, the problem is that after Driv3r, they tried to make Parallel Lines as bland and generic as possible after getting too ambitious with Driv3r. The driving really improved and they manage to balanced the game to be 70% driving and 30% shooting on foot as I remember reading in a magazine from that era.

I feel like Ubisoft wouldn’t have been willing to cough up thw money to make it a banger next gen release. It would have gone down in history as worse than just a mediocre game. The game looks really good visually for a PS2 title. And it’s handling isn’t that bad when you keep in mind a lot of 3rd person PS2 shooters handle janky. But releasing 7th gen means it would be rated way harsher.

Parallel Lines is one of my favorite games from the PS2 era, especially because it came at a time when I had already spent countless hours in GTA San Andreas and was looking to continue playing something similar (an open world, sandbox, etc. ), Driv3r had not been very attractive to me but as soon as I saw the mechanics of Parallel Lines I was immediately hooked At the time it looked better graphically than GTA San Andreas, since the Skybox that the game used gave it a very different and unique lighting, the particle effects, the modeling of the vehicles, everything is done with a fairly decent level of detail, the physics of the cars was something that I really liked because they were very fun to drive, especially if you got the racing cars (the parts you mention that are tedious due to the distance become easier and more fun with said cars), and speaking of racing, completing the circuits is also a lot of fun with the racing cars since they have the Nitro option, here the option to customize cars was a pretty good one since it offered a lot of variety and almost all cars could be customized, even heavy vehicles. The mechanics, story, missions and weapons of this game are just a lot of fun, I'm afraid to contradict you but I think we both saw a very different game, I never found anything "tedious" in it

Speaking of performances, why not playing the PC version? Driver is all about car chases, and in that category the series is unrivalled. Unfortunately, they tried to get closer to GTA because the market was obsessed by this type of game. I think that in 2023 it will be possible to release a car chase game without being compared to GTA. Looking for the Driver San Francisco review! #ReDriver

gta vi is supposed to be a bonny and clyde type of story, but some say that the original story was about a different time lines where you work for the colombian cartel and the story started in the 70's or 80's and then jumped to our current time, and the first thing I though was Driver Parallel Lines, and I wonder how R* would've handled that premise but with the polish and interesting writing they are known for

I really liked the game back then, but I doubt it can have the same impact today, because the rendered cutscenes really looked amazing to me back then and today they look good, but nothing to write home about today. But the game probably suffered from being the sequel to Driver 3 a lot, because they probably just wanted to play it save in the gameplay department, just making sure evrything worked and didn't really try to make it stand out, other than the presentation, which of course doesn't wow you as much 15 years later. Probably a game that could really benefit from a proper remake.

In general, the non-ideological part turned out for the most part. It would be much better if the forces invested in this game would be directed to refining and bringing Driv3r to a new level of quality, something like a quick modified remaster, it's a pity that this is not practiced in the gaming industry.

I played this for the first time two years ago and while I don't consider it a masterpiece, I still think it was a worthwhile game. Sure, there were better open-world games out in 2006 (GTA: Vice City Stories, Bully, Saints Row), but for what it was and what it did, it was still a good game. And it was surely a better game than Driv3r. Everything from the story to the atmosphere and even the driving. Still got to play its prequel though, Driver '76.

7:24 - I went to NYC last year, and so far from all the games I’ve played, including this one, GTA IV was the most accurate portrayal of the city. It was kind of crazy how I always knew where I was based on my knowledge of GTA IVs map 😂 Definitely agree about this game though. I love the Driver series but this one feels out of place in the series and doesn’t focus enough on the big strength the series has which is the driving.

Speaking as someone who's originally from NYC, GTA IV is to this day 100% the most accurate depiction of the city ever made. Rockstar absolutely nailed it, and I hope that they someday decide to return the series there; my dream is to get a Liberty City the size of San Andreas in GTA V (along with some of the surrounding areas, like Long Island, a bit of upstate NY, more of NJ, etc.), as my only complaint with GTA IV's LC is that it feels a tad too small nowadays.

It seems for the PC version they realized the drives were too long, as you now have the option to teleport directly to mission markers, completely skipping the drive. The thing that annoys me with the combat is how headshots no longer have any effect and TK is inaccurate with anything thtat isn't the Magnum Revolver/Desert Eagle, Driv3r's movement may have been janky but you could at least aim for the head to take foes down quickly if you were accurate. (As well as honestly having more interesting shootouts which sometimes took advantage of the physics engine to an extent with light destruction.)

As a kid I remember playing it on the PS2, but did not finish it cause i scratched the disc too much at some point, making half of it unplayable sadly. However, very recently I found out there is a PC version for it and began playing it. There are definetly notable differences: - Game is less handholdy on PS2, except for the shooting segment if I recall correctly - AI on PC is a tad dumber but somehow even more agressive - Shooting on PC is missing a very useful feature from the PS2 - target switching. Basically, using the D-pad while autolocking allowed you to switch targets. It would indicate to which targets you could switch to. It was great. - Like you said, fast travel was added on PC. Not gonna lie, it is useful at times. - There are a few minor differences I noticed with certain icons and pause menu. Ones that absolutely stick out are the starting pistol and assault rifle icons for the 70s era. On PC the starting pistol icon has a longer barrel rather than the short one on PS2 and the assault rifle model is straight up replaced. Instead of the M16 on PS2, it's an AK on the PC. Additionally, the SMG on PC is a normal Uzi, while on PS2 it's a Micro Uzi (there is a difference). There are probably other differences but I will have to check. Why they changed those is beyond me honestly. As a side note, TK can shoot accurately with the starting pistols in both eras (and like you said revolver/deagle). To do it you just have to not spam fire it. You can do it pretty fast but not too much and TK will hit every single shot. But yeah he can't aim with rest of his arsenal no matter what.

You know, I'd be so happy if they did a remake or even a new driver which inspires to have such a cool storyline, style, music, voiceovers, cutscenes. That's probably not gonna happen.. but what if we did a LOT of noise online? I see lots of people having nostalgia about this game and it has a 9/10 on Steam. I just don't understand how this game was not a big success at the time. Still play it to this day, and have tons of fun. The driving and shooting is casual and satisfying.

Even though in a game I remember in the game 2006, it looks similar I'm a surprise that dear when Xbox 360 was currently out and PS3 launched and they don't have a copy of the game for that platform. It would look even better in HD

Love the review! Another childhood favourite done and dusted. I never actually owned the game, I rented it from Blockbuster a few times before completing it. Huge fan of the series, even if they are terrible🤣

ps2 controllers tend to have unresponsive buttons in the long run, you can use a retroscaler adapter to play with whatever wireless controller you like

Hey. I'm not one of your patrons but I'm watching a twitch streamer play a game called Lifeline. Its pretty unique and might be up your alley to review. If its already not on your list.

loved this game as a kid and i recently bought it again. This game is special, janky shooting, but nice driving imo, and probably the greatest songs in any gta type game

(Before I’ve seen the video) This game was awesome. I absolutely loved it, it was so much fun, and maybe because I was really young, I absolutely didn’t see the big twist in the game coming.

Good video, very interesting I played driver and driver 2 when they came out on PlayStation and enjoyed them but i didn't like how they added getting out of the car. I think driver should have stayed with the original play style and kept the player confined to the car. I never played any or the other driver games so i can't comment on how good they are but i know the first game is awesome and i just don't see the need for getting out of the car. Just wanted to share my opinion on the series. Maybe I'll try driver 3 and so on. I appreciate the video
