Great to see the St Kilda Railway Line from both directions! A friend of mine lived in St Kilda for about 20 years will definitely tell him about this Driver's view video if he doesn't already know!🙂🚇🚃🚃🚃🛤️🏖️⛱️

I'm a driver now with Metro and it's awesome to see these old clips from back in the day. I totally remember travelling on these tracks as a kid. So much has changed even since I have been there.

I just love the ring of the bell, something that has been lost to progress, sad really, great video of how things were, love the semaphore signals,and platform 11 at Flinders Street is no more..........

None of it is what I would call "progress"

I was only a fourteen year old lad back then but I still remember the recorded announcement; Flinders St, Flinders St, Platform 11. Miss that! It's a shame it's difficult to hear the rest of it. Thank You John for the upload, I've loved all three of these old drivers view that you have posted. Are you still driving mate? Or I imagine more likely retired by now? Did You get to drive the Taits as well, boy am I jealous of You!!!

Never was a driver , I was the Railways Chief Photographer for 25 years so was able to do this sort of thing without any problems and yes I am now retired

I used to get trains from Flinders Street to go home after work - getting a train for the Upfield line, which if my memory is correct used to leave from Platform 9 "Flinders St, Flinders St Platform 9 Upfield train stopping all stations. Upfield train stopping all stations. Stand clear, please. Stand clear" with the last Stand Clear in a very direct tone. I can't remember if she would announce the time of departure

@3.17 - I believe is the down signal that while the A arm was working, the train stop was always stuck at proceed. It caught one of the regular driver's out when we freed the trainstop during maintenance, which hadn't been done for a few years. The A arm was at stop but the driver continued on past at speed thinking he wasn't going to trip. We pointed to the trainstop arm as he came flying up but it was too late. Emergency stop. lol

Pre-1987 Harris Grey Ghost "St Kilda to Flinders Street" Train Simulator because how this exactly felt like?! A simulation?! Judging by color ratio, I'd say the time ratio was 3pm to 4pm max?!...The colors, the quality gave off the lovely 80's vibe and sheen we all love....So wonderful and will be forever etched on history forever...Even hearing the lady announcer as well set off nostalgia blues. I wonder further past platform 11 if it was used for Sandringham back at that time?! Bless.
@johnphillips5924 жыл бұрын
Yes your right about the time , the clock on the tower at Flinders St says 3-25 pm and yes Sandringham trains did use the platform further along , thanks for the comments and glad that it brought back so many memories

lack of patronage and Crown Casino wanted the land probably
@jamieb81122 жыл бұрын
@@AlonsoRules I don’t think Crown Casino had anything to do with the railway closures. The trains to Port Melbourne and St.Kilda finished in 1987. Casinos and pokie machine venues were still 6-7 years away from being opened in Victoria. Crown Casino’s original temporary casino (which was originally at the World Trade Centre near the Yarra) opened in 1994. And the permanent Crown Casino opened in 1996. Casino’s were non-existent in Victoria until the government allowed the licenses around 1993-1994. Up until then, people had to travel to Moama across the border in NSW for any kind of pokies or gaming venues.
