7 overtaking lessons from the fantastic Spa-Francorchamps circuit. Welcome to Driver61's Driver Analysis where our head coach, Scott Mansell, critiques our subscriber's driving.
The idea of these videos is to use the example driver to enable everyone to learn and become faster, more consistent and feel in total control on track.
Today's video rides onboard with Scott himself as he analyses his performance and overtaking opportunities at Spa Francorchamps. Scott is driving a 1970 Lola T210.

same, just getting into iracing, amazing how calm people get at the limit, 3:15 he calmly catches a slide and doesn't even comment on it, when that shit happens in mx5 races I still freak out a little inside and it's not even real haha.

"communicating with the limit" is a phrase I have never heard before, but your explanation of the concept makes it really clear why, and what it is... That was very much an 'AH HA' kind of moment.

Love the sensible level of caution and commitment in the corners depend on the situation as watching you race. It's fun to hear how a driver able to explain their instinct as logic. Also love this video as this is my all time favorite track. As a sim racer I only purchase sim race games that has Spa in it (or can be acquired through modding). Keep up the good work with providing us with the great insightful content!

Really interesting, thanks Scott, these race moves come naturally, but the dissemination and explanation is perfect, and it's great to sit back and take it all in,

Interesting to see. Just did my first wet trackday on Nordschleife, and that is sooooo different to dry. Spa I know only in dry conditions, so - while not the primary topic here - listening to your thought process about what line to choose is great.

Interesting to see you wrestling with the car, as in controlled agression. There's people out there who advocate for absolute and utter smoothness no matter what and that concept never really seemed completely watertight to me. So yeah all in all very interesting video.

What about installing a super loud horn to scare the driver in front? There can't be any rule forbidding that.

The green bollards looks dangerous. If your car hit it, do you think that you could get hit in the head? Are they sturdy? All the more reason not to hit them I guess : )

Hi Scott, I have an unrelated question to this video. I have only recently started with sim racing (before just arcade racing with gamepad) and I started using a wheel (T300) and pedals only some weeks ago ( I don't drive at all in real life, only driven karts a bunch of times). To my surprise I was already setting top 10 world record times after only 5/6 hours of practice. Does that mean I found a new talent inside of me or does it mean that I am not playing a real racing sim (Project Cars 2)? I know hotlapping is different than actual racing, but it seems I do have the speed (see my latest hotlap video's). Should I invest serious time into it or should I keep it as a leisure distraction for a few hours a week?

First on PC2 it’s a huge difference between cars. How cheep your steering wheel is doesn’t matter. The breaks are really what get you really good lap times. I hold 7 world record titles in terms of fastest lap(Ferrari 488GTE) I also hold in the upwards of 30 top ten times I think. So first what car(s) are you driving? Second what tracks do you have these top ten times at? Third how consistent are you? Also if you do choose to invest time Leave PC2 and invest in Iracing. Way more realistic and way better driving crowd and professional race car drivers use the sim. Teaches you how to drive fast and safe. Having a world record lap on Iracing is far more impressive than PC2. I have yet to hold one...
