Get faster on track by building your technique. Welcome to Driver61's Driver Analysis where our head coach, Scott Mansell, critiques our subscriber's driving.
The idea of these videos is to use the example driver to enable everyone to learn and become faster, more consistent and feel in total control on track.
Today's video rides onboard at Spa-Francorchamps with Ryan Erroll in his Caterham Roadsport.

These latest series of videos from Driver61 are pure gold. I’m learning so much. I’ve also always wondered why F1 drivers seem to always notice track evolution lap to lap, especially in Qualy. Now it seems to me that they are proactively exploring the limit on every corner. Knowing this has made my viewing of F1 more enjoyable. Thx Driver61

Thanks, Scott, this is a next year great analysis.I`m doing Roadsport next year. The biggest thing I learnt here is being patient about when and where you overtake, and also having the confidence to drive to the cars limit. Something that helped me with the latter, was doing car control, and drifting lessons. When one loses it on a fast corner is always the scariest!

Brilliant! The bit you're explaining about going closer to the limit is well reflected in the quote "if you don't fail from time to time, you're not trying hard enough" - where failing may not mean a spinout but a bit of oversteer that is caught and expected next time around. Great stuff Scott!

I've recently got your channel recommended and i like your analysis a lot, one can never learn enough in this life. I use a phrase that I don't remember where i have read it or listen to it (probably in one of Chriss Harris videos or maybe viperconcept youtube channel) and it says: *if you don't hear the rear wheels squeaking and struggling a bit for grip it means you're not fast enough*

Thanks for another great video. I just do track days with my daily car and only think about the corner I'm coming up to and the straight. I'm going to start thinking about how I can set someone up 3 corners ahead and getting to where i should be vs just working to pass someone asap. I felt good for the driver when on the 3rd time on au rouge when he held back and got the corner just as you wanted him to go. Maybe you can do a video on Senna's gas pedal tapping through corners. I know it's just a video game but I have been using that on cars that dont have good low end on forza 7 and it really did make my lap times go down. I figured he did it to keep the turbos spinning because turbos back in the day were pretty laggy.

I think that 'driving at the limit' in the middle of the corner and generating a little bit of slip is the hardest thing to do. I'm pretty certain it's one of the things really fast drivers are good at. Do you have any ideas of how to get better at that?
@lydiagould3090
@lydiagould3090 4 жыл бұрын
You will get better advice from Scott, but here`s my experience for what it`s worth. Book up some drifting lessons, then when you`ve got the feel of it try it at a good circuit, on a slowish corner with safe run off. I think Scott mentions this bit.

Wasn’t your dad or grandad an old F1 driver, it’s so easy to spin out on the turf on that odd left hander after no name, you gotta drive on the limit to be fast, consistency is also key out all my wins I’ve never ran the fastest lap of the race it’s all consistently slow lap times that I win with ya there drivers that can do one ultra fast lap then there next lap is 4 secs slower there lap times are everywhere just repeat what you did on your fastest lap dur
