I lived in Germany for 6 years in the US Army, mostly in Bremerhaven. Spent a lot of time in The Netherlands, mostly in Eindhoven working with the Dutch Army during the Gulf War. Great Guys. I had a lot of fun hanging out with them. I don't remember any trains being so fast. I want to come back for a visit😝

I have added this video to the playlist 'long cab rides'. I have reviewed hundreds of cab ride videos and added the ones I think are the best. I really like the speedometer. One request (of all authors) is to name the stops along the way on the video. Goed gedaan

Afgelopen week voor het eerst met de Thalys gereisd. Antwerpen Schiphol v.v. Was een fantastische ervaring. Mooie treinen. Comfortabel ook. Alleen jammer genoeg op de terugweg old school terug van Sch'hol naar R'dam via Leiden, wegens defecte trein op de HSL. Tussen R'dam en A'werpen een rijdende ICM ingehaald. Die 'stond stil'. 😜😉

+Mirage Le Chevalier At Mortsel Oude God the ETCS display shows END ETCS and how many meters. The activation of the 'Special' button on the Dutch rail is because you can choose the option 'slippery track' which isn't allowed in Belgium. By activating 'slippery track' the brake curve will start earlier when the train needs to slow down and comes in handy when the tracks are very slippery, however I never had to use this mode.

Great video! I would like to make a few requests: firstly, it seems to me that it is necessary to slightly change the angle of the camera, - that is to say to tilt it slightly down, because we see a lot of sky. Definición fantástica de este ramal q une Bruselas con Amsterdam. Las obras q hay tanto de soterramiento como de puentes y túneles es. EXTRAORDINARIO. Un ferrocarril así le compite tranquilamente a los aviones de turbohelice

Ik denk dat de trein zonder aanpassingen de 400 wel moet kunnen halen, alleen tussen de 300 en 400 zal de snelheid langzaam omhoog kruipen, dus dan heb je wel een lang stuk nodig

Cool deze video, zoals in je oudere vid van Brussel naar A'dam had ik een paar vragen ( vergeet die andere reactie maar ;) ) kan je misschien in je video aangeven waar je de grens overgaat, station namen etc kan aangeven? en waarschijnlijk zie ik nog steeds het transformatordeel waar je overgaat van belgisch naar NL bovenleiding netwerk :)

Is there a known date for higher speed between BXL and Antwerpen. At least passing Mechelen at higher speed than 80 or 90 km/h. In any case congrats for your vids. Thank you for sharing

+Philippe Durand At the moment the maximum speed will remain 160km/h, at the end of 2017 the new bypass at Mechelen will be ready, so Thalys trains can pass the station with 160km/h, as far as I know the maximum speed will not be upgraded to 200km/h. There are no plans for an actual high speed line between Antwerp and Brussels.

Super train with high speed, just on the feel you're starting to really live. But it rakes me a question? ..Why can not I cross the set threshold to 300?.. Specifically, why not accept a higher speed?

Denk het wel, in Brussel bij stilstand dacht ik een schilderij te bewonderen. Dat effect had 't op mij.Ook misschien door het dominerende geel op gevelwerken. Schitterend gezicht. Krijg je wel gauw honger van zei mijn pa als schilder.

At 1:35:46 , train slow down at 60 km/h, but the speed limit is 80 km/h, and we don't understand ATB's sound (slow down at 60 km/h). And after this question, just one question :) the ATBL is ATB and Belgian TBL ? What is it ?

ATB and TBL are in this train type combined as 1 ATBL console, ATB and TBL are in fact used separately, however it probably was cheaper and easier to install 1 console. Very sharp that you saw that the maximum speed is 80km/h and that I drove 60 km/h. That's because that section isn't very comfortable for the passengers at 80 km/h, so even though I am allowed to drive 80 km/h, I always keep in mind that we have a lot of passengers on board that are getting ready to get off the train, and of course for the benefit of our Train Managers and Train Attendants on board.

Ok, thanks you very very much. It's very interesting. I keep your information carefully. And from Brussels to Louvain/Leuven, THALYS uses the line number 36N. On this line, the speed limit is 160 km/h and 200 km/h. But THALYS passes Leuven at 160 km/h or at 200 km/h ?

Yes 200 km/h with ETCS, but since the maximum speed is 160 km/h while passing a platform with the possibility of people on the platform, I think 200 will not be allowed unless platforms can be closed down like the platforms on Line 36N

Bell: old style signalling support system indicating you've passed a green light Buzzer: indication that the dead man switch/pedal needs to be operated Double beep: indication that the ETCS/ERTMS in-cab signalling has an update (speed limit is going to change, start of controlled section, end of section, ...)

Bedankt! Qua reistijd maakt het niks uit, ook zonder ETCS mag er 160 gereden worden. In België loopt men wel voor op Nederland wat betreft het ombouwen van het nationale net naar ETCS.

Are you able to read any of the signs at 300kph? Are the speed constraints automatically set by the computer or do you set them manually?

There is no need to read signs outside at 300 km/h, because ETCS L2 transfers signs to computer in the cab of train, same as for french TGV's and their TVM430 cab signaling. Even neutral sections are reported to engineer and automatically negotiated (like at 1:12:45)

Is het mogelijk dat deze rit op een zondag is gefilmd, want ik kan me niet voorstellen dat de Noord-Zuid in Brussel, ze er op een werkdag zo maar twee sporen afsluiten. Het was trouwens een mooie rit waarvoor een dikke proficiat.

At Malines/Mechelen, train's slow down at 90 km/h, why ? And just one question, from Paris to Amsterdam, there's just one driver aboard THALYS or two drivers ?

DAROT Eudes because the track curve in Mechelen allows a maximum speed of 100 and after that just 90 to change to Line 25N. We always only have 1 person in the cab for safety reasons, in Brussels and Antwerp there can be a change of driver, a second person is only allowed if a driver is in training, when a Team Manager comes along, police for an investigation or railway workers with authorisation to access the cab for example track workers to check if the railway tracks are functioning properly on high speeds

CONGRADULATIONS on the OUTSTANDING GoPro camera KZbin video--now I understand the RENFE videos in Spain--have enjoyed EUROSTAR between ENGLAND & FRANCE. Suggestion--show the speed in km/hour and the train stations stopped at and passed by. I can't understand why the UNITED STATES has limited HISPEED rail service--especially CALIFORNIA.

+Michael W Stack Hi Michael There is a fondamental difference between western Europe and North america, your network is primilary made for long distance freight transportation. Pax travel by bus or Plane, when they do not use their cars. The axle load of freight trains is a great limitation factor because of induced track deformation ; the cost of the necessary maintenanceto enable highspeed trains on the same tracks would be prohibitive. Here in western Europe, high speed (over 220 km/h or 135 mph) is only used on dedicated pasenger HS trains. You need a business case for high passenger volumes, like on the North East corridor. I'm not sure it is worth to fly getween Philie and NY when the track modernisation is completed. But is is worth to build a new HS Tracks beween LAX and SF bay area ? or between Dallas, Houston and San Antonio ? Do you think it would make sense to build an HS Track from Chicago to Seattle, most people would fly. Only addicts like me would use Empire Builder's High Speed replacement, and it's not even sure ! I was very impressed by the Superliner cars.

@Michael W Stack Remember that the US is almost exactly the same size as Europe in its entirety. Imagine the cost of building high-speed rail in an area that size! Americans use airplane travel for long distances and automobiles for short journeys like that in the video.

35:32 , ik snap niet wanneer die 40 eindigt , ook staat er een aankomende 60 een eindje verder en toch ga je naar 80 90kmh. ksnap het niet.

Ik snap dat het een verwarrende situatie is. De 4 voor 40 in het sein was toegevoegd omdat er een snelheidsbeperking gold voor dit gedeelte van de tunnel. De snelheidsbeperking is niet van toepassing voor Thalys en was van toepassing voor overige treinen, inmiddels is deze snelheid voor overige treinen om gezet naar 60, maar wij mogen 90 rijden.

Beneath the river in Rotterdam. Stadium on right about 58:00 is Stadion Feijenoord and the platform/station just before the tunnel is Rotterdam Suid.

Thank you. I was somewhat surprised, with the dim lighting, lack of decoration and antiquated "industrial" look, I thought it was an abandoned or rarely used station.

The maximum speed of a PBKA is 300 or 320 km/h ? I don't now :) The ETCS/ERTMS brakes the train or the train driver must brake manually ? Just a tip, to avoid abrupt braking and braking, think to anticipate by stopping the traction as soon as possible! It's better for the brakes!

The maximum speed for both PBA and PBKA are 320 km/h, but in The Netherlands and Belgium the maximum line speed is 300 km/h. The driver brakes manually, often you hear the rheostatic brake instead of the traction when the speed is reduced.

Yes, i heared the rheostatic brake before Mechelen. And during the test of the TVM-430, does the 320 speed indication appear? If you do not know this system, it is the counterpart of the ERTMS used on the high speed line (France and Belgium, HSL 1 only)

Since the ERTMS screens were built in we don't need to test the TVM system before departure

OK thanks you very much ! And do not forget, the standby test, brakes and radio are very important! I also know that the KVB, TBL, ATB, LZB and Indusi / PZB tests do not happen, just make sure they are active! ;)

Actually ATB and TBL do need to be tested before departure, and of course LZB/PZB for our colleagues that run on the German section of the network.

Bram Verachten dit is tijdelijk tot etcs ook doorgetrokken is naar Antwerpen, etcs ziet niet wat er gebeurd achter het sein, het meest beperkende (behalve rood) is door wisselen met 60 km/h, vandaar dat etcs uit voorzorg altijd 60 km/h aangeeft op dat stukje omdat het niet weet of het sein groen of groen 6 toont.

I cannot stand trains in Poland. Wrocław (630k citizens + 115k Ukrainians lol), Poznań (520k citizens), distance 164 km by train... in 2 hours and 30 minutes f**k. The route was modernised, we have new Flirt trains and they still are snails or tortoises. God, why 14:00 airplane omg :D
