I went to Montego Bay last week. It was a disappointment. Several in our group wanted to spend money with ALL the shop owners, especially JAMAICAN shop owners. We observed a process designed to give our JUTA driver a kickback for taking us to a certain shop. I encourage all travelers to Jamaica to limit their spending if their guides aren't informing them about ALL shopping options. We asked our driver to take us to other stores but he wouldn't. When my husband and I went to Ocho Rio, about 5 years ago we paid a taxi driver to take us to alternate places to shop

Yep they do get kickbacks it’s part of there contract I refuse to do tours I’m lucky I’ve been JA many times & know where to go & what to do…plus I pay residents rates as I have a JA passport..everyone who is a tourist pays $35 for Dunns river…I pay $5 oh the joys😂

The cruise ships want the taxi drivers to be fully vaccinated. So if they arent fully vaccinated then thats the prob. If they are vaccinated then they take them to court. Im from St. Kitts and that's what's happening here but i think the taxi drivers are vaccinated they Minister of tourism here made it known thats what the cruise line wants. A ship was here last week. That's bad, I'm a Jamaican who will be coming to Jamaica in Nov, I certainly will be using the local taxi drivers to take me around. Can the Police really tell tourists they can't talk to the taxi and bus drivers? Sounds like a dictatorship, maybe the minister of Tourism should be made to explain.
