Hello! In that example you watched, the yellow line Micah is crossing over is part of the center turn lane, which is okay when you are making left turns. When inching forward and going over the crosswalk to see oncoming traffic for the right turn 1:20 at a stop sign instead of a red light, where I have to make a turn and accommodate vision, what if I’m stuck there for a while and a pedestrian comes along? I would be impeding pedestrian traffic correct? I’m confused about this especially if vision is limited on top of potential faster pedestrians such as skateboarders, that I would not see before inching forward with the time that had passed
@DriversEdDirect9 ай бұрын
This is a great point and exactly why we often recommend to our students NOT to make a right on a red during their driving test. If you end up blocking a pedestrian in the crosswalk, it is an auto fail. You should only attempt to make a right on red when you can clearly see that your actions will not impede the progress of any other vehicle or pedestrian with the legal right-of-way. If visibility is such that you can not see clearly enough to make this decision, then do not risk it and just wait for your legal right of way to occur (i.e. the green light). Hope that helps!

@DriversEdDirect3 жыл бұрын
@@shawngoodman638 Great question Shawn! When taking a right turn on a green light you are not required to stop BUT you must yield to pedestrians or any other traffic already in the intersection. If there is a pedestrian in the crosswalk, then you will come to a complete stop until it is safe to proceed. However, if the intersection is clear (no traffic, bikes, or pedestrians) you slow down to about 10-15 mph and make your right turn without stopping first. This video shows an example where the light is red at first, but then turns green. As you can see in this example, the intersection is clear so the driver continues making the turn without stopping, after doing all of his traffic checks of course. - I think this will help explain it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZnRYmxtftJqga8

Hello, 3:46, shouldn’t you first enter the yellow center turn lane and then smog and change to the right lane?
@DriversEdDirect11 ай бұрын
Hello! When turning ONTO a street with a center turn lane, you are not required to use the center turn lane to complete your turn. If there is a safe gap in traffic, you can complete your turn fully into the left flowing traffic lane. Hope that helps!

At 2:30 where you're making the right turn on the red, what if you inched out over the crosswalk to see cross traffic, but then pedestrians start crossing? On the driving test, would that be a fail or markdown since you're blocking the crosswalk - although technically you inched out before they started crossing?
@DriversEdDirect2 жыл бұрын
Hello, that is a smart question to ask! You could potentially auto fail in this situation becasue you are blocking the pedestrian's right of way. That is why we recommend avoiding right turns on a red light during your drive test, unless the DMV examiner ask you to do it specifically. Here's a video that sums it up perfectly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2jLZpWCfq6ihKs

Sorry for all these questions but I live in california and usually people run the red light at 4:19 and when I am in the middle of the road I dont have time to take the turn since the other lane on the left starts to move so i get scared to go into the middle. What do you recommend I do? Becuase one time I got stuck in the middle with like 4 people running the red light and I didnt have enough timme to turn when my lane turned red
@DriversEdDirect Жыл бұрын
No worries, we are happy to help! Making unprotected left turns is one of the more challenging skills for drivers for exactly the reason you described. It may take a while to get comfortable waiting to make your left turn while you sit 1/3 of the way in the intersection, and you are totally right, cars will often run the red light while you wait, so you do need to be patient and make sure it is 100% safe to turn before you start your left turn. With that said, the other cars in the cross traffic lanes are not supposed to start going just because they get a green light - they are supposed to wait for you to complete your turn before going. A green light doesn't mean "GO", a green light means "GO when safe". So don't feel pressured by them, they are supposed to wait for you to complete your turn. Just make sure that when you do finish your left turn, turn with confidence and clear the intersection as quickly as you can while still being safe. Hope that helps!

How do you turn right at a intersection with solid bike lane ? Entrance to my drive test Centre has a solid bike lane from major street . While some drive school instructors say it’s okay to cross the solid bike lane becoz you need to brake ( from 50km) to enter the DT Centre , some say better not . If I don’t enter the bike lane it’s a rushed 45degree left turn .
@DriversEdDirect3 жыл бұрын
Hello again, love this question. Please be advised that we are located in California and that we base our answers on the California DMV Handbook. However, many of the driving rules here are universal and can be applied in any driving situation, regardless of what state or country you live in. With that said… In regard to crossing a bike lane with solid white lines: Cars may not enter the bike lane when the white lane line is solid, EXCEPT to enter a driveway. So, if the entrance to your Drive Test Centre is a driveway, you can cross over the solid bike lane line to enter it. Just make sure you SMOG (Signal, Mirror, Over the Shoulder, Go) before crossing over the bike lane. If any bicycles are in the bike lane, you must yield to them. Hope that helps. You'll do great on your test, you got it!!
