I remember way way back in high school when this new kid who just moved from Canada to my school. We were talking about what cars we're gonna drive when we get our license and he says "My mom's nice toyota see-lee-ka". I was amazed, thinking that Toyota came out with a special model in Canada and asked him to take a picture (pre internet days). After showing me a polaroid pic the next day, I was like, "No, thats a sell-ika..." I realized seconds later that I was not a smart teen lol.

I would guess the clutch cylinder has a stud on the top because it makes install easier. If you had to install a bolt the same length as the stud, I think there would be clearance issues with the reservoir.

you need to put a block or a bolt under the throttle pedal to use as a travel stop, if you don't when you're driving it and get a bit excited you'll hit the pedal too hard and snap the throttle cable.
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
Yup, Pete does mention a travel stopper for the pedal and it is definitely something we'll tackle when we more permanently install it. This was just a mock up to get the cable installed where we wanted it and mated up to the ITBs.

Hey Dave. I recently got a set of 4AGE ITBs too. I have been cleaning them by hand and they are looking pretty good, but nowhere near as perfect as yours. Were there any considerations to take before blasting them with walnut and glass? I am going to look into doing the same.
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
we were going to remove the TPS but since mine was broken already we didn't bother. It would be tough to cap off any of the little orifices, so we just went ahead and blasted them carefully and then I gave them a good wash with hot water and dried them out with an air gun and they seem to be squeaky clean and free of any type of dust of debris. The glass blasting is really gentle and seems to produce very little debris, so the only stuff that came out during cleaning was a tiny bit of the walnut media and even that was mostly just in the springs.

How's that battery holding up? 220 CCA doesn't seem like enough for a BEAMS.
@colubrinedeucecreative7 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have been thinking, but isn't that steering wheel way too far back? Remember when you test fit the seat? It looked like it was in your lap, well, if you look at the shifter, it is way too far forward, and so is the dash. I would guess you are going to have to cut that extension out of the column you put in back some day, and or maybe even more. Who knows though?! Looking forward to it all!
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
Good eye, we're going to be moving the shifter back since its too far forward at this point.

@snape14647 жыл бұрын
They're pretty darn expensive
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
A pedal box would certainly be an option, but we're trying to do it with Toyota parts since others like the Panic bros have done lots of these Beams swaps using AE86 pedals and cable like we're trying to use. The AW11 pedal isn't quite right for the job compared to an AE86 pedal, but we'll make it work with a spacer and a stopper on the floor. Should work out fine.
@Aiello_7 жыл бұрын
i didn't know know that, i never really saw the price of them haha

Trivia queston ! Why did Toyota design a two piece driveshaft for theses cars ?
@Samqdf6 жыл бұрын
From what I have been told a 2-piece design transmits significantly less of shocks from the diff / wheels / suspension and hence end up being having less noise, vibrations and harshness (NVH).
@scadieee7 жыл бұрын
I was always told battery placement should be done when you’re corner balancing ?
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
True with a race car if you're really trying to optimize weight distribution to the nth degree, but with a street car build like this (we'll still take it to the track), we picked this location for convenience and because it's better than having it in the OE location out over the nose of the car.
@wilhobbs2077 жыл бұрын
Scadieee Not enough weight to make a difference. If it were a conventional battery then yes. But 8-9 pounds won't make a difference

aint that shaft too long when tires on ground or is it calculated perfectly?

we gave Xcessive measurements as per their instructions, which allows them to factor in slip yoke movement such that it won't bind up when it's on the ground and loaded up.

You have it all out and you are building a track car? Why not get a nice pedal box in there instead of these hacks? :-D
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
It's not really a track car, it's going to be a fun street car that we do take to the track sometimes, but for now we want to make it work with Toyota parts since this has been done by many others in a similar fashion with good results. But of course if we're unhappy with the results a pedal box is always an option in the future.

It's like who are these guys?
@brlbrlbrlbrl7 жыл бұрын
Given that every video has a bunch of product placement and out and out advertisement, I'd expect that to make up a large portion of their income. I've been curious as to what the Canadian laws regarding disclosing paid product placement are, as in much of Europe their approach of puffing parts, linking to them and not disclosing that they've (most likely) received the parts in lieu of positive visibility or indeed been straight paid for it, would certainly run afoul of the law.
@speedacademy7 жыл бұрын
This is our full-time job. We used to be the Editorial team at Modified Magazine (for a decade), and started Speed Academy when the magazine was shuttered in 2014. As the end credits indicate, we have advertisers that help us pay the bills, just like car magazines have. Some of the products we choose to install on our cars are provided free-of-charge by the manufacturer, but we're under no obligation to give the product a positive review and we're always open about any problems we have with a product both with our viewers and with the manufacturers (so that they can get some honest feedback from guys who've been modifying cars for a long time).
