The Ogre and Troll are different from the star players. They are really part of the team so can get advancements and such while the star players are options to use when the teams are not balanced in cost. Some of the nomenclature changes are fine liked marked which just means in a players tackle zone but some is poor like replacing go for it with rush as rush has sort of a specific football meaning. Some is terrible where they called scatter the process of deviating the ball 3 times but scatter used to be deviating the ball once which is called bouncing now. I do like how they made the rulebook very inclusive with all the teams from 2016 version models in the book to start and thr skills and league rules which were in a separate book in the last edition.

This one, and Techno Bowl, are my go to football games. But at this point, I'm done with the physical version of Blood Bowl since the digital versions have been so good. Me, and my buddies, do season play through the current game (Blood Bowl 2) pretty regularly, and will do the same when the new digital version releases in a few months. I also used to play a ton of online leagues through the Fumbbl website over the years. I'd still love to pick up this new version, but it will never make it to the table unfortunately with those other options also available. But I'm really happy that Games Workshop has finally brought the game back and are working on it again. Now if they would just bring back Battlefleet Gothic. I still have a full Chaos fleet that would love to see action again.

Great review! I preordered this box as a brand new Blood Bowl player and my son and I absolutely LOVE it! Such a great game and the production value is what you’d expect from Games Workshop. Great stuff.

If I am remembering right, the Tier rank is basically the level of difficulty to play a team. Tier 3 would be what used to be "stunty".

My local shop owner was telling me you can use the previous team cards for this version. Is that true. I don't need to "rebuy" everything in that matter?

As far as I know, that's NOT true. I'm not sure for all the teams though. Maybe check on the BoardGameGeek.com page for the game and ask. Someone there will know for sure.

What would say to someone that's not into sports at all but it's intrigued by the game? Maybe try Blitz before jumping to the "big leagues"? The theme is strong but wonder if would be missing out on some great gameplay.

That's a great question that I'm not honestly sure how to answer. I think you might be on the right track trying Blitz Bowl first though. It has some real game-y elements that I think just about everyone can get into. This one has a lot of "sports-y" bits to it, and really excels when you get fully into it with a league etc... (Also, I still think this would be a try before you buy situation, even if you like Blitz Bowl).

Thanks for this review. My son and I have really enjoyed Blitz Bowl. Maybe this is where we go all in! Are there any other similar games other than guild ball you'd recommend?

Give a look to Rumbleslam, which is right up there as my favorite sports-style game with this and Blitz Bowl. I also really enjoy Dreadball which is more like Blood Bowl than any of the others.

Eh. I'm not rebuying Blood Bowl again. Now I finally know how Warhammer players feel. With BB2016 being left incomplete, I'll go back to the old Living Rules. The game was better off when GW had abandoned it and left it to the fans.

Just to be clear. Everything you already have is fine. Only the new rulebook is a “necessity” if you are interested in the updated ruleset.
