The 'S' does 0-60 in 4.4 seconds and 161mph coupled with 40mpg (even when driving 'enthusiastically'). The double clutch gearbox is excellent (jumped from a 718 Cayman PDK into the A110 and never questioned the gearbox). After extensive research, number crunching and soul searching I just ordered the A110s. I looked at the market. Took everything for extended test drives (days not minutes). The Alpine makes too much sense to ignore; performance that leaves you grinning from ear to ear and an everyday practicality that allows it to be used as a daily drive. Is it a 718 Cayman basher? Only the Porsche GTS4 and the GT4 would be 'better' but then you are in a different ball park. Go and try one. Get your head round the fact that you don't have to play 'German badge wars' any more and enjoy arguably the best sports car around. For anyone interested the film was shot Near Compton Abbas airfield, just south of Shaftsbury, Dorset. My local area and roads I drive often.

I have to say, I think the modern A110 is one of the few cars that really pulls off the retro design look. I think its absolutely gorgeous from every angle. Was much pleased with this review, spot on! Well done, Alpine. I do like the A110(s) a lot, despite the automatic gearbox. The design is highly appealing to me (sorry James) and, naturally, that is a matter of personal taste. This is one of the few car design appoaches in the world that is equivalent to Mazda's MX5 concept. I happen to own one (2.0 RF 160 hp) and I fully understand James's appreciation of this lightweight, small and adequately powered sportscar offering, like the MX5, lots of smile per mile, at reasonable speeds and for acceptable amounts of €€€ or £££ or $$$. A lot better value than any supercar if you ask me, unless showing off is of key importance to the owner 🤭

It is interesting that there is also a Bulgarian trace in the creation of the revived Alpine A110 model. It is about the designer who made the first exterior sketches of the concept. He is Bulgarian, and his name is Deyan Denkov. It is he who outlines the vision of the new Alpine

@willstokes72663 жыл бұрын
Probably down to costs of sorts
@AbeYousef3 жыл бұрын
When using a small displacement engine that uses a turbo for a large portion of its power, it is necessary to have quick shifting to not lose boost. If you would want to have this in a manual, it would also need an anti-lag system. This is both costly to develop/manufacture, and splits the buyer base, and would hurt emissions. The DCT is the right kind of transmission for a car like this, that's why the Alfa Romeo 4C also uses one!

I'd say the best competitors are the Alfa 4C, Porsche 718, and Lotus cars (I say it like this cause they're mid engine light-weight cars but I lack the knowledge to narrow it down to one model). All the above follow the formula of mid engine, lightweight designs and RWD. The Z4 and the TT are roadsters which technically puts them in a different class, and are considerably heavier at 200kgs the BMW and 400kgs for the TT
