Great compliment. Thanks. I was just a kid when they were cranking these babies out of Detroit, Michigan. My husband is restoring one right now right down to the frame. All original matched numbers on all parts and is restoring the color to the original Candy Apple Red. It is a 1966 Fairlane GT 390 and are we ever happy and looking forward to driving it. It was an Arizona car but the prior owner that purchased it was in Oregon. Only one very small rust spot the rest of it was amazingly in great shape. It will definitely be a driver. No trailer queen this time lol.

I had a 66 GT, rebuilt the engine went 40 over and balanced, would red line at 7000, Man that car was sweet. It was white and my little girls called it White lightning. That car would just fly and you couldn't start out and NOT chirp the tires. My oldest girl conned me into letting her take it to school one day. Found out she scared the bejeebers out of this kid when she laid rubber all the way across the parking lot. I laughed when I found out and was proud she could go throught the gears so well. Wife made me sell it because of such chicanery, now she says she wishes I had kept it. Me Too.

I built my 390 with primarily factory parts. I put headers, a solid cam very close to the 428CJ hydraulic. C cam for NHRA CStock and 410 hp 427. And a Holley Street Dominator with a 750 Holley 3310. It’s still an animal and I. built it 20 years ago and it is still like new. Open Headers will make 496 hp 463 ft lbs. That is with home ported 352 heads with 2.06 intake and 1.58 exhaust valves, I have a C6 and 4.33 locker gears and you can peg it to 6500 in a heartbeat, and I used to wind it to 7000, but I am blind now and can’t drive and my son won’t wind it that high. It is in a 1965 Galaxie 2 dr HT and it rides and handles like it’s on rails.

I have a '66 Mercury Cyclone GT 390 4 sp with just over 49K original miles on it parked in one of my barns. After watching that video of the car going thru it's gears on the open road,it makes me realize what a shame it is to not get it back out on the road again.I parked it in '81 because of the high price of insurance being I was under 25 years old at the time.

Would love to own a 66-67 Fairlane 427. A 66 Fairlane R-Code 427 is my favorite Ford ever built. But good luck finding one of them. The 67's are a little more common than the 66's but I believe only 2 hundred something of them were built in 67. I believe only 57 of them were built in 66. They built some 427 Mercury Comets in 67 too but I'm not sure if any 66 Comet 427's were built. The 427 Comet's are even more rare than the Fairlane 427's

In '77 I traded a '66 mustang fastback 289 2bl. 4speed, even up for a '66 Fairlane 390 4speed with 9"rear. The 390 had been built by a well known mechanic & it was fast! Another friend had a '66 Merc Comet 390 GTA. He put 427 lowriser heads on it,along with a mild 428CJ hydraulic cam, aluminum intake,735 Holley, headers & 325 positrac. That car beat 396 Chevelle with lower gears, & a Firebird with a 400 auto! Neither guy could believe it only had a 325 rear end,but it was the absolute truth! Later on he bought a new 427 block, heads & a sidewinder intake. He had a well known speed shop down in Somerset, Ky build a 486 stroker kit & put it in the Comet, WICKED!!!

Very cool indeed. I grew up in Northern England in the early 70's with Fiarlane's Galaxie's and LTD's. We had a local specialist Ford dealership who imported and sold American and even some Australian Fords. A friend of my dad owned either a 66 or 67 Fiarlane, a 69 galaxy and a 71 LTD. After the LTD he got into Lincolns which I liked but I'd rather have the Fiarlane hahaha. Great car!

Last year we would take our '65 Comet Cyclone original white 4 speed car to the local cruise in. Had a new drivetrain but the paint was all faded and the interior was a little rough. I put a set of 15" magnums on it with nice tires and that car would draw a bigger crowd than some of the big money cars. We loved it and so did a lot of other people. You're right when you say they are only original once.
