Driving a 602HP, 180MPH Family Truckster - The Mercedes-Benz E63 S AMG Wagon Is Pure Insanity

Why? Why would Mercedes-Benz build a family wagon that can do 0-60 in 3 seconds or so, a quarter mile in 11.2, and top out at 180MPH on the way to soccer practice?
If you have to ask that, you're probably not a car guy. A better question is why wouldn't they? They'd be nuts not to. It's awesome.
Wagon buyers represent the most loyal and wealthiest segment of the company's customers. The fact that a few hundred of them will drop north of $130K on a grocery getter is testament to that. Even more than the S-Class buyers, the wagon buyers are well heeled.
So here it is. The E63 S AMG 4-Matic Wagon, with 602HP, 627 pound-feet of torque, and pulling .96G on the skid pad. This is automotive nirvana - a genuine have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too machine that can comfortably cruise the interstate, seat 5 people in total comfort, bring home the Costco shopping, and rip up a racetrack like a Z06 Corvette. This is the stuff that automotive dreams are made of.

I spray the $h,t out of clasps like that with various over pressurized petroleum products from where Elwood Blues works.("This is glue , strong stuff".) Cures almost always. rarely , it's an alignment problem.One side is always adjustable.

Maybe the way the fuel cover won’t shut unless the car is locked is to get you to remember to lock the car before you leave it to go and pay for the fuel. A security thing to help avoid car jacking at the filling station. Thanks so much for your videos Bill 👍🏼

@Axton8 ha- my buddy had an E55. It was breaking from early on. The best? The crank pulley deciding to "Exit stage left" and bounce around under the hood. At 61k miles. But by that time, the LCAs' had been replaced, the alternator, the differential seals leaked...and not an uncommon story with Benz.

Bill, I totally agree with you about the carbon fiber trims. Wood trims are much more elegant. It's a shame that some guys even wrap the old wood trims from their 90's or 2000's BMW or Mercedes with carbon fiber masking tape to "refresh" their car

Wow 115 just like that. Wonder if the piped in sound is the actual V8. Bet not. I test drove a new at the time BMW3 series with a turbo 2liter 4 and when I nailed it I said wow that engine sounds great! Salesman smiled and said I should buy today. Later I realized why it sounded so good and more like a straight 6 than a straight 4 and I felt cheated and fooled.
