I love the fact the school chartered a motor coach. Usually my penny-pinching school hired the oldest, crappiest school bus for any trips no matter where it was. Only during ski trips would we hire the oldest, crappiest motor coach 🤣🤣

Oh no an inevitable reverse....whatfreakingever if you gotta back up ya gotta backup that's why busses have a reverse gear I hate when companies or states try to demonize reversing as if people driving MUCH bigger vehicles also needing extensive training/certifications/licenses don't use reverse to park or leave. "Illegal to reverse on school grounds" soooooo how do those box trucks that deliver the goods for the cafeteria unload? Oh right they reverse somewhere on school grounds 🤦

Regarding the bus with the filthy back end, it looks to me like it might be oil/soot. I drove a coach one time that had engine oil issues and the exhaust would spit it out the back and the airflow at the back would kick it up onto the back of the bus. Made cleaning it a pain in the butt!

It was always exciting for a kid to take a school trip on a highway coach. I was a parent chaperone on many such trips. As for backing up, our driver training was to call out for “assistance at the rear of the coach” and someone would get up and look out the back window for us.

It makes a big impression on some kids to ride in a big beautiful comfortable bus that can last the rest of their lives! When adults making decisions sometimes in government and schools that makes for long term motor coach support! To have a H3-45 Prevost waiting in the school parking lot means its going to be a special day for the kids going on that trip! To meet up with your 5th grade teacher running the field trip is a surreal experience. Those childhood day memories are now cast from the view point of an adult. When in 5th grade kids are thinking a lot like adults and are starting to feel mature compared to the other kids in the school, but now as an adult 5th grade kids are kids. That was quite an event you made for your daughter picking her up at school with H3-45! I use to be very prone to motion sickness that got bad after over 10 minutes on a school bus so taking a bus for any distance meant increasing levels of not feeling well. Then when a freshmen in high school our high school band made an exchange trip between our home at Marshall high school, Falls Church VA and Long Island NY. I was thinking I likely get feeling ill on the bus and mostly stay that way through the weekend. I looked over the bus, now I've identified it as an older looking MCI 7, and grabbed the seat right behind the driver so I could watch the road which helped steady my motion sickness. I was relieved as we turned onto I495 that the bus wasn't jolting around and had good AC! As we turned onto I95 the bus driver along with the other bus really moved! This is during the 55 mph national speed limit era and they were holding the buses at 80 mph! The bus driver was pointing out to me that they had to watch for the overhead bridge crossings because that is where there can be police cars doing speed radar. I wasn't able to grab the front seat on the return trip, but riding back in the coach wasn't that bad. It wasn't that memorable either, I only remember vaguely putting up with some antics of some of the kids that I wasn't into, but it was OK. The MCI 7 was a much nicer road vehicle in ride quality and stability than the driver's dash layout, especially the left side console, first lead me to believe. That driver's control console looked like it could have come out of an old transit bus with missing paint and hardware store common looking toggle switches. When doing motor coach school trips I think it makes the possibility to create life long motor coach advocates!

Great video business is back I saw 2 PCC Busses at a STL Cardinals game about three weeks ago. I was watching charters unload and the two PCC drivers were the only drivers who got off the bus and stood at the door and spoke with or helped the passengers off. The other company drivers just sat in their seats. In my day the driver was the first one off the bus. You looked happy driving even if it was a barf run with a kid better than a barf run with drunks. It was very coincidental driving you 4th grade teacher. I've noticed the bubble on top but I didn't think it would cause a problem but I don't think I would like driving something with the mirrors stuck way out front. Take waiting for the next video.

The first good rain picked up all the black stuff and tire spray deposited it onto cars. You could see which cars that obviously drove that area for the next few days.

Hello James, Here in California, backing a school bus requires a spotter, at least for the district I worked for, CHP regulation. Company policy was the same. But, sometimes it just can't be helped. I often said that teachers should be required to attend traning so that they know we aren't just making up rules as we go. One gallon zip lock bags make good barf bags. Keep the rubber side down.

I’ve seen some J4500s spray oil all over the back.. usually it’s because the oil cap is either not on tight or not on at all. That would be my first guess. We have a 2020 D4505 that does the same thing from the dipstick tube if the cap isn’t tight. Cummins changed the design so there are no notches to slide it into and then give it a half twist to secure it. Instead it just kinda fits on there and it’s pretty finicky. If it’s not just right the back of the bus looks just like that one. Did you let the other driver know about it?
@JWangvlogs2 жыл бұрын
He already knew about it. He actually stopped at our facility for my technicians to look at it after his trip

Although there are many “answers” to your “backing up” question, the best answer I found online is… Backing up a school bus on school grounds “without a spotter” is unlawful in some states. However, seems odd because a garbage truck and other large vehicles can backup on school grounds. So, who knows?

Random thoughts throughout the video... 1. Can you share your go-pro mount setup for the above the shoulder view? I have something similar but not quite there, mine only has one suction cup and I have a hard time separating the gopro from the side window without making it want to swing off. 2. How do you keep that go-pro running? I have the USB cable pass-through door but I can't seem to get my gopro to stop overheating, so I get maybe 30-40 minutes minutes at most. 3. I must be the only person who uses the under/interior handle to unlatch the luggage bay doors to shut them. 4. Do your buses only do 70? I thought they'd be a little quicker out in the midwest. 5. I love the videos on this channel, don't forget to give this channel some love and attention too! 6. Does your bus not have a rearview camera? I'm used to seeing it coming up on the dash cluster. 7. Where do you find your soundtracks? As always, great video!
@JWangvlogs2 жыл бұрын
Hey Raymond. Lets see what i can do with this. 1) My go pro uses a dual suction cup mount with a extender piece that pushes the go pro out about 6 inches. You can find the extender piece from Amazon. It makes it so that you can see more of the road rather than that side support beam. Email me if you need more details. I will send you pictures. JWang@peoriacharter.com 2) I have had a go pro 5 and a Go pro 8 as my road footage camera and they have never overheated on me. but then again I don't usually leave them on for longer than 15 to 30 minutes at a time because I don't need all that road footage. I usually only turn them on when i feel like there is something interesting on the road. I use the sound activation feature so that I don't have to touch my go pro while driving a bus. I simply say, Gopro start recording. or go pro stop recording. I turn off the auto power off so that it stays on constantly. It never over heats being on constantly. I keep the recording at 30 FPS at 1080. that keeps the file sizes smaller and doesn't require so much processing power from the go pro. 3) Haha, Its just habitual for me. Some times I try to feel around and find it and I cant seem to find it. I think I've also cut my hand feeling around back there for the pull handle. Not sure on what. 4) Our buses are governed to 70 on cruise control. but you can press the pedal down and get them up to 72. But that's about it. Yes it is a bit limiting but it keeps our fuel economy down and saved us money. 5) Thank you so much! Really appreciate that! 6) You know I'm not sure if that's a added feature or if that only comes on newer model Js. Some of our J models do have the reverse camera in the dash and others do not. I'm talking about 2017 and newer. 7) I use a website call Epidemic sounds. They have a lot of copyright free music to choose from. But there is a monthly fee. I think its $15 a month and you have access to over 20,000 different artists releasing multiple songs a week. Also they have a great search tool so that you can find the song you like. Honestly I listen to Epidemic sounds when im driving my POV. They have lots of great tracks that I jam to not just for my vlogs. I hope this was helpful Raymond! From one bus nut to another.

Does your state require a special driver license to drive for school trips? Even though a coach is harder to drive than a school bus, in this jurisdiction you must have a school bus driver license to take a school charter run. Class B is school bus, Class C is a regular bus.

Good question. Yes you need a charter endorsement on your class B CDL to drive kids.

What is your opinion on airlines like united and ameican now using coaches to serve some.of their routes? This would be a great video for your other channel.You discuss how it changes or if it changes business from private operators. They also offer seating layouts with less seats therefore offering a slightly different product than many private operators. I personally think they should stick to air travel as coach or bus routes are best served by greyhound or private operators. If airlines have coaches now whats next? Cruises?, gokarts, making their own cars?

Why was there a trash can in one of the seats?
@JWangvlogs2 жыл бұрын
That's the trash can that we use on the bus for passengers trash. Our wash crew cleans the bus and the trash can every night and leave the trash can on the seat. The passengers are free to move it wherever they want

Man you put away a lot of food. What would you do if you saw the back of a pcc coach that dirty?
@JWangvlogs2 жыл бұрын
Lol thanks Derek. That's a compliment for me 😂 if that was happening to one of our coaches in the middle of a trip. My team would send another bus and driver out there to switch buses. If it was a problem we know about, that bus would never leave the property until it's repaired.

As a kid I went on a total of 3 field trips on a motorcoach. The first was when i was in 6th grade and we did a trip to Springfield, IL. We did the State capital, Luncoln's home, etc The second trip was a 7th grade trip to Six Flags over Georgia and Disney world in Orlando. That also include md Orlando SeaWorld. It was the weirdest charter. We used Greyhound. With the exception of Atlanta and Orlando, all of our rest stops, fuel stops, driver changes were done at Greyhound bus stations. It was kind of cool for me because it was my first time ever riding Greyhound. But I had never before, and never since had experienced charters using terminals like that. The 3rd trip was an 8th grade trip to Milwaukee Zoo on Continental Reailways. Didn't imagine that I would actually drive motorciaches. I would have considered getting rid of that bag from the lavatory provided it wasn't leaking, by putting it in another bag. At least people who needed to use the lavatory would be able to use it. One more story. I did a side of the road lavatory dump once because the bus started stinking with passengers on board and the heat from the engine combined with the breakdown of the chemical made it bad. I did the dump after the passengers got off and I went to a gas station to purchase 2 bags of ice to put in the toilet with some chemical. Not ideal but I had to do what I had to do.
