Driving Downtown - Pittsburgh Pennsylvania USA - Episode 25.
Starting Point: Federal Street - goo.gl/maps/Gw....
Pittsburgh is the second-largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the county seat of Allegheny County. The Combined Statistical Area (CSA) population of 2,659,937 is the largest in both the Ohio Valley and Appalachia and the 20th-largest in the U.S. Located at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers, which form the Ohio River, Pittsburgh is known as both "the Steel City" for its more than 300 steel-related businesses, and as the "City of Bridges" for its 446 bridges.[3] The city features 30 skyscrapers, two inclines, a pre-revolutionary fortification and the Point State Park at the confluence of the rivers. The city developed as a vital link of the Atlantic coast and Midwest. The mineral-rich Allegheny Mountains made the area coveted by the French and British empires, Virginia, Whiskey Rebels, and Civil War raiders.[4]
Aside from steel, Pittsburgh has led in manufacturing of aluminum, glass, shipbuilding, petroleum, foods, sports, transportation, computing, autos, and electronics.[5] For much of the 20th century, Pittsburgh was behind only New York and Chicago in corporate headquarters employment, and second to New York in bank assets; it had the most U.S. stockholders per capita.[6] America's 1980s deindustrialization laid off area blue-collar workers and thousands of downtown white-collar workers when the longtime Pittsburgh-based world headquarters of Gulf Oil, Sunbeam, Rockwell and Westinghouse moved out.[7] This heritage left the area with renowned museums, medical centers,[8] parks, research centers, libraries, a diverse cultural district and the most bars per capita in the U.S.[9] In 2015, Pittsburgh was listed among the "eleven most livable cities in the world";[10] The Economist's Global Liveability Ranking placed Pittsburgh as the first or second most livable city in the United States in 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.[11]
Google, Apple, Bosch, Facebook, Uber, Nokia, Autodesk, and IBM are among 1,600 technology firms generating $20.7 billion in annual Pittsburgh payrolls. The area has served also as the long-time federal agency headquarters for cyber defense, software engineering, robotics, energy research and the nuclear navy.[12] The area is home to 68 colleges and universities, including research and development leaders Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh.[13] The nation's fifth-largest bank, eight Fortune 500 companies, and six of the top 300 US law firms make their global headquarters in the Pittsburgh area, while RAND, BNY Mellon, Nova, FedEx, Bayer and NIOSH have regional bases that helped Pittsburgh become the sixth-best area for U.S. job growth.[14]
The region is a hub for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, sustainable energy, and energy extraction.

Nice video of my home Pittsburgh aka Da Burgh, City of Bridges. alot of people don't know this but we may look small in population. But if you look at our city limit if it were expanded throughout the borrows and suburbs it would be at 1.25 million people. Though many of those places outside of the burgh consider themselves Pittsburghers anyway. And also the city is way more busier than this Mon-Sat this must of been a Sunday.

Ha! Pittsburgh is one of the most challenging, closed minded, restricted, comepetive cities out their! Philly, NYC, if you creativity, imagination, drive, motivation, desire, and confidence you make it and enjoy the journey. Not Pittsburgh, hard work, depression, limitation. The city is extremely narrow minded. Not a lot of options a lot of requriements, lot of folks are not nice unless their family-oriented community based type. U didn't graduate college(I am in school right now and seeking my degree for personal and intelligneal growth etc.) you make it and won't be accepted. Now, Pittsburgh has great food, great musuems, nice concerts, great libraries, and lots of shops. History as well!. It's good to visit and do the cultural, museum tourist stuff or visit your old stomping grounds if from here but nah. Even tho we have a democratic mayor, the city is really conservative. Pittsburgh got trump elected. Philly is so better. Laid Back. Life's journey is the path. Pgh everybody has clicks. Tourmets and works themselves more than have to. And your suppose to be miserable, pgh mentality. Never wish anymore that. Social and Mental conditioning. I come home, visit, see family, friends, go site seeing I'm out!

C caymer again you’re mistaking Pittsburgh with the STATE of Pennsylvania. It was PA that swung 5 points to the Republican candidate. Pittsburgh, which voted 75% for Hillary, was not the deciding factor.

Love it here and have lived here all my life, however I live outside the city a ways. That’s one of the nicer things. 50 minutes I’m downtown but where I live is the middle of nowhere rural. It’s nice to have both kinds of life within a short distance of one another.

Random fact, at 16:30 at the intersection on the Blvd. of the Allies and Grant Street, you can see a red building with turquoise details on the roof, on the left hand side of the road. That is the last remnant of Pittburgh's Chinatown. Most of the Chinatown neighborhood was razed to build this on-ramp and intersection. It used to be a small but distinct part of the city.

Fnord Fnordington that’s a joke. Mississippi and West Virginia are conservative run states and are the poorest and most rundown in the nation. Boston, Seattle, Portland and many states run by Democrats rank much higher than their republican counterparts in education, poverty rates, health, etc. I’m not saying they’re perfect but don’t be so biased. There’s shitty cities and states run by both Democrats and Republicans.

The most scenic way to come into Pittsburgh is to drive down the parkway from Greentree and through the Fort Pitt Tunnels. The view of the city as you emerge from the tunnels is breathtaking. After driving around in the city head up to Mount Washington which overlooks the city. It's a beautiful panoramic view of Pittsburgh which is better than a lot of cities.

I moved from Pittsburgh 30 years ago and this virtual visit is very nice. It is clean and beautiful, but it is quite sad to see the Downtown Kaufman’s with covered up windows, no Hornes Dept Store, and no Gimbels Dept Store. Going downtown at Christmas and roaming through those multi level Department Stores with their Christmas window displays and the Hornes’ tree and Jack Bogut’s Children’s Hospital Christmas fundraisers was a special part of growing up in Pittsburgh. I hope this was filmed on a Saturday because there are almost no people on the sidewalks. I remember the sidewalks to be very bustling with employees and shoppers on weekdays when I grew up and was in college.

I was not expecting much but I was pleasantly suprised! What a charmingly beautiful city! When you read old books about Pittsburg you read about an industrial steel city and knowing now that industry has left lots of places I was expecting something like Downtown Detroit. Boy was I wrong! Id love to go there to visit one day!
