Every time I get in the car I am fully aware of my surroundings, I know what's in front, behind and at the side of me and then, suddenly, something unexpected happens and I think I’ve still got a lot to learn - and Ashley would be calling me out. Such as, “Our viewer thinks he's done alright but really he's a tw*t (choose your own vowel)!” And of course he wouldn’t say that, but that's what we think he means! At around 10.08you say, “Nice one mate, did you do that as a kid?” Well, you see, I didn’t see what he saw, so I’m clearly not as observant as I think! should I give up driving now?!

The Porsche getting beeped by the Audi similarly happened to me. Yep, two days ago I had the arm waving asking me to go while waiting for a pedestrian cross and only this morning one of the vehicles behind beeped in anger as the pedestrian crossing lights had turned green to allow cars to proceed but people were still crossing. It is a bad crossing for that but I wait for everyone to finish while other drivers will want to nudge through as if they have some sort of “right of way” - which we know doesn’t exist Having reviewed the rear camera…the beep wasnt in anger as initially thought but was our friend the taxi driver seeing a green light while sorting out his paperwork and deciding to use the horn

It always amazes me how many people ignore the illegality of pavement parking. I believe the highway code states one is not permitted to drive on the pavement, unless accessing a driveway. So how did they manage to get the vehicle on the pavement without driving on it? It massively disadvantages those with disabilities too. Utter selfish behaviour. I do wish Ash would point it out more in his videos. But I just couldn't believe the people that did just straight up drive on the pavement. I've seen it in real life too. In an area where children play on their bikes on the pavement regularly. So dangerous.
@ArminGrewe

@@stephenjamespayne6131 yes, that's the strange thing: parking on the pavement is not illegal outside of London. But driving on the pavement is (except for a few rare exceptions like the one you mentioned). Which begs the question, how did all the cars parking on the pavement get there? Did they fly? Were they beamed over?

It’s because the steering wheel needs to be turned more than 90 degrees from straight ahead. You do need to use both hands to do this safely, not one hand steering, the other on the gear lever (or worse). Plus turning into a narrower side road at 90 degrees May mean slowing down.

On a separate note, has anyone realised of late just how many drivers that tend to speed and tailgate? They just aren't aware that they are 'locking on' to the vehicle in front of them and wonder why the 'victim' driver gets passive aggressive with them and slows down by decelerating to annoy them.

There was a narrow access road to serve the parade of shops which 99.9% of people used. This really boils my piss. Where I live they haven’t cottoned on to grade separation and thus have pedestrian crossings either side of non signalised roundabouts and also on the short stretch of road in between, there’s something like 8 pedestrian crossings within a half mile stretch of ring road and at least one of them you don’t really need the lights as you can cross using a pedestrian refuge when the crossing up the road is used. So someone comes along, presses the button, realises there’s no cars because they are stopped at the previous crossing, crosses and is away from the crossing so that you just clear the last one and get up to speed as this one changes to red. When I’m at the previous crossing I always look down to the next one now to see if any fucker is crossing there so I know to expect the red light.

It was not necessary to move out to overtake that bus so early, and may not have been necessary at all, as the time it had been stopped for was sufficient for passenger movement, and the bus was on the move again before you went past. What could potentially happen is the driver in front delayed to move out as they could see a driver behind moving out to overtake them, and waited to check that you were not going at excessive speed wishing to pass them, before safely moving out to pass the bus.

Last week I was approaching a T shaped mini roundabout in my bus, I'm coming from the right of the 'T' and signalling left to turn down the stalk. Theres a police van coming the opposite way with 2 police officers inside. They are not signalling and since 95% of traffic approaching that way goes straight over this is what I'm fully expecting them to do. Well, they signalled right after entering the roundabout. I'm a bit close at this point but I can still stop, though I need to brake much harder than I normally would and I would've stopped a bit over the give way line. This is when the police officer beeped at me in anger. They then proceeded to speed down the 20mph road we both exited into, I'm guessing they were doing around 30, and then turned right at the next roundabout without using any signals whatsoever. 4 bad examples in the space of 1/4 of a mile. What hope is there?

Impatience is the issue in a lot of these clips. Thought about this channel earlier today when I was driving to my local Sainsbury’s! It’s located on a retail park and there’s a 3 lane section on the approach (as you come off a roundabout) with the right hand lane right turn only for said retail park. You can go straight on in both of the other lanes. There are signals and I was slowing to queue at lights - because there’s only one right turn lane it often means there’s a long queue. Someone in an old Astra cut in from the left and tried to wedge themselves into the gap I’d left from the car in front. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was down to bad planning or not being able to get across but I quite often find drivers going down the middle lane and then cutting in dangerously just because they are special and don’t think they to queue like everyone else.

I think the police car did what many would do in that situation and just misjudged how much time they have. Its better to go through on amber than slam the brakes on in some cases. Another possibility is they were responding to something without blues on and as they could see no traffic onto the roundabout they passed, but at the next set there was traffic moving out. Driving is pretty much a giant, never-ending game of what-if. I taught my daughter to always assume every other driver is blind, drunk, or stupid, maybe all three, so you never know what he's going to do. And remember, I said to her, crashes always happen to the other guy, but to every other driver, _you_ are the other guy.

7:03 They're not on a blue-light call without the blue lights on, because there is no such thing. They are obligated to make sure other road users are not endangered by their breaking of the road traffic act, and they do that by showing they are on an emergency call, by using their emergency lights. There is no way it's legal for a cop car to pass through a red light without showing they're on a call. There is just no way for that to be safe or legal. I get that sometimes they have the lights off, so they can sneak up on a situation, but under those circumstances, they have to obey the same traffic laws as everyone else. They are not exempt from following the rules. They have a duty of care.

My wife worked in Bolton for 10 years, commuting every weekend from the Midlands and she consistently complained about the driving standards in North-west. She is no expert but for her to recognise and single out an area is condemnation enough and indicates the scale of the problem, no other area/location around the country comes in for the same criticism. If it is so bad then why is nothing done about it?

Some of them get seriously overconfident from their training. the lady at 9.20 drives in segments like my neighbour; 1st segment the junction; 'oh my God, tight turn, turn the wheel, watch the kerb, yes made it and only went a little onto the other side of the road.' 2nd segment, the van; 'There's a van on my side, oh god, should I wait for the car coming towards me or go past it? Oh, oh... Oh dear too late.' 3rd segment, ball in road; 'oh dear what do I do? Which pedal did they say was the brake? Oh I'll go around the ball that's the best course, if I stop I'll be late to my hair appointment.' My neighbour sits behind the wheel, rigid, gripping the wheel tightly, staring straight ahead, slowing for every corner and having the 'what if' nerves. What if the tyres loose their grip here? What if a herd of wildebeest appear in the road there? What if that lorry hit the pub after swerving for a pigeon and careered out onto my side of the road and ran into me? Those same nerves stopped my mother from driving for fifty years even though she had a license. She spent so long readying herself for various scenarios in her head she lost all confidence in her ability to actually drive and problem solve on the move. Taking her out was a nightmare, she would gasp loudly making me look around for the danger I'd missed, then say she thought the cow grazing in the field might jump the fence, or the car approaching the junction wouldn't stop. At the end I'd be a nervous wreck too. 🤨

Just as a matter of interest, but why do you think Audi drivers took over from BMW drivers as the worst driver stereotype? I actually did a little study of this one year when I was doing nearly 40k pa driving. The result was that BMW were still worse than Audi drivers but they weren't the worst. That was Ford drivers, then Vauxhall, then BMW, then VW, then Audi, then Renault. Land/Range Rover were way back down the list. In fact the correlation was closest to the number of regestered cars by manufacturer. OMG, how dull, everybody is as bad as eachother! So why Audi and not BMW. The stereotype switch coincided with the introduction of the big shield grill, which was more promenent than BMW's kidney grills, and considerably more noticable than Ford and Vauxhall dull output. Basically we notice driving and stereotype on the look of the car rather than the standard of the driving. You will now all appreciate the efforts being made by BMW and Audi to produce ever larger and more ugly grills, to still further enhance their stereotypical reputations. I'm sure you are all grateful for this fasinating insight into the psychology of driving and I bet it has enriched your lives.

It's correct to say police don't have to have blues and twos on when responding to an emergency incident, however they should use them when there is potential danger, and going through a red light would definitely qualify as such. So in either scenario they would have been at fault here. Tut tut Merseyside Police!
