Gotta agree to a point I've seen some channels just say hey you can make X thousand a week! But practically I try to think about the scalability, challenges and generally just vetting gigs

I have driven a medical courier route for the last year-and-a-half, it's an independent local company so not app-based. I averaged six hours and 200 miles driven, and the pay average is 42 bucks per delivery.... Usually 4 to 8 deliveries in the evening.

According to IRS the total cost per mile of driving your car for business is $0.655 or 65.5¢ per mile. So whether it is DoorDash, Uber, or Lyft or Dropoff, if you have to drive 7 miles from home to pick up your passenger (or package), drive that 'load' 2 miles and then drive 9 miles back home, that's a total 18 miles and your car just cost you $11.79. If your passenger paid $9.00 for his 2 mile ride and Uber just glommed $3.60 (40% of the fare), your revenue for the ride was $5.40. $5.40 - $11.79 = (a loss of) -$6.39. Even at $5.40 for 1/2 hour of driving you *lost* money. Most gig drivers don't understand how much their vehicle actually costs them. Most of these gig apps don't price in time and distance deadheading (on the way to the gig and on the way back home.) Most hourly medical couriers now pay $15 - $20 per hour and you drive their vehicle. That is a much better deal for the driver.

Actually the 65.5 cents/mile is the amount you can use to deduct to pay less taxes. You can't do that as employee. Let's say you drive 20,000 miles in one year. That gives you $13,100.00 to deduct for your car expenses. That includes your insurance, gas and repairs. You have to choose: miles or actual expenses. If you drive a hybrid car that makes 40 miles/gallon, and a gallon cost 3.50, your gas expense for 20k miles will be 1750. Oil change 4 times I would pay about $100 (They charge me 25 oil+filter). Plus insurance about 1200. For eventual repairs, maybe 600. My car is paid off, so no extra expense. My total REAL expense would be 3650.00, so in my case I choose miles for deduction. 13100 - 3650 would give me a chance to not pay taxes on 9450.00

You are right. I was using that figure as a total cost of ownership per mile proxy. According to some dealers, banks are refusing to finance cars for gig workers because they are getting leased cars back with 100,000 miles after two years.@@desblu3700

I have a medical courier route through a local company, parking is no issue, I'm allowed to park in front at the main entrance of all hospitals I go to. To get through security is no problem either, I show my courier company ID from my phone and I get right in. While $/mile is important, my most valuable asset is time. Metrics go in this order: 1: $/time 2: $/mile Where my courier route crushes food delivery is $/time. I do get $1.73/mile on that 2 hour route.

I worked for a car service, similar to taxi but no ride hailing only call pickups and reservations. We had a regular account with a hospital to drop off blood samples when their drivers missed it going to the next city over. Flat city rate no tip from one hospital to another.

I did medicine delivery not for drop off as they don’t have it here I love it but it was always late at night some took me 8-10 hours to deliver they were stat medication. Good pay usually light traffic but the distance was a bummer.

Dropoff said there's overnight availability as well which is interesting. Some apps like Flex don't operate overnight, some operate into the late night like Gopuff (3AM I think here). Some like rideshare and food delivery always run but depends if it'd be busy

I remember back in 2019 signing up for this platform but for some reason they had a problem with my 2016 Honda Accord like they expected me to have a box truck, van, truck with saying I don’t qualify which was ridiculously when I thought you can also use your car 🤦‍♂️. Either way, I didn’t waste time with drop off and fount better opportunities back then.

Company's like this are placing you on a route were you preform daily. It is not like other gig apps where you are waiting for a order sitting in a parking lot. The uniform most likely will be a safety vest with the company logo. I work in the auto parts industry where contractors are now common to deliver auto parts. My company uses Pace which hires drivers that agree to work 7 days a week to get a route.

Thanks Yota I'd have to do some research on that but you can follow my research method. Google medical couriers near me etc or just generally look for courier companies. Watch some videos/read reviews and ultimately sign up for a few of the best looking ones. Review their apps/offers based on our standards and give them a go! Sample size of probably 5 shifts to get a decent idea
