I take a spin in my Buddy Martin's Model A Doodlebugs

These are '28 or '29 Model A or (1-ton) AA doodlebugs having the external door hinge pillars and horizontal 2 piece firewall seam, '30 or '31 have internal body door frames for mounting door hinges and one piece firewall to the cowl band. 1924-27 Model T or (1-ton) TT had had an extermal straight door hinge pillars. 1924-1927 TT (6 lug) and early 1928 AA (5 lug) 1-ton trucks had worm drive differentials but different spring mountings. Under extreme pulling conditions the short wheelbase plus adding the second transmission proved to be dangerous as they would flip over backwards!

Gotta love the ingenuity of those farmers! And the ingenuity of the folks keeping these old rigs around!
@stephenbeecher75453 жыл бұрын
That is a 1928 or 29. Any earlier would be a model T which ended production in 1927. 1930 and 31 had a different body transition from doors to the cowl.

Do raddy-ators radiate? Or do radiators raddy-ate?

Looks like a really fun afternoon. Definately put a smile on my face. I grew up driving a '29 Chevy doodlebug type of Ranch creation around the fields. Not that I need any more vehicles, but I sure wish I had bought that when I had the chance.

First time seeing the doodle bugs. Never heard of them. Looks like a ton of fun. Thanks for sharing.

In the Upper Ottawa Valley we called them "dillys" , usually with a second transmission, ideally a four speed, and the rear axle from a Three ton truck. I even remember one which a couple of old Bachelor (probably Gay) farmers deep in the woods had made into a full track bulldozer with the track being made from pieces of , angle and strap steel. the only power tool they had was a 3/8" electric drill.

Ether 28 or 29 there, after that they change the cowl abit
@waynespyker5731 Жыл бұрын
My yard sale purchased doodlebug was an early '28 Model AA narrowed front axle (cut & welded /-\ for crop clearance), transmission and differential mounted on the narrowed (right rear axle shortened - right frame rail both moved in 10") and shortened truck frame. No grille or cowl needed for a Wisconsin air cooled 2 cylinder set above the M shaped axle. Steering wheel, foot brakes and seat occupied the left side while a axe handle functioned as the hand clutch. Roller chain and sprockets connected Wisconsin and Ford. I replaced the modern rear Wheelhorse tires and rims used for fronts with 3 rib tires on a pair of New Idea hay binder spindles and Cub rims while retaining the AA rear steel rims/tires. The steering shaft was unsupported so I reworked a pair of Model A front fender braces for an arch shaped mounting hand grip with a steering shaft bearing mount on a crossbar (may fill the peak to form a mini-dash).

That would've been a great day - wish I'd been there! Love those rusty pieces of motoring history; maybe you don't get the comfort a modern car offers...but what fun to drive (once you get the hang of it, lol)

My grandfather, back in the day, would by them for 15-20 dollars and cut the back off and use them for hauling scrap metal and trash. Seems sad but back then they were a dime a dozen and just another tool tool,

There was one years ago .. at a restaurant stove greasers industry from the late 20s . His building marble and granite throughout.. by 98/99 it’s best times have past … but in the back waaa old Ford flat head but it’s rear was a tractor with duallies and a freight car hitch attachment probably from loading and unloading the train carts for distribution.. great times to see and witnessed what yesterday hard work was all about.
