Hi, I have an issue with finding a correct ESC to use. I am using a 40A ESC UBEC 4A, and a 36V 350W motor. I have 6S Lipo Batteries to power the motor. The problem with this ESC is that it doesn't allow a high enough current through to start and only after a push does the wheel start moving. We've tried an 80A ESC however the motor is only moving very slowly - about 0.3m/s and the speed was not changing with the throttle. Which ESC are you using and can you offer any solutions to our problems. Thanks

@karacupa6 жыл бұрын
The brushless DC electronic speed controllers are located on the main board of the hoverboard. Theoretically it is possible to parse them out of the circuit and use for your own purposes, but I can't tell how to do it. It would take some reverse engineering skills including PCB re-tracing to understand the schematic and to figure how to re-use just the ESCs. I wouldn't do it. I would use some stand alone ESC that is properly rated for the job. In general the hoverboard motors are rated as 36V 10A. That is a 10 cell lipo battery. Find an ESC that matches or exceeds these values. There are plenty of ESCs available on the market today. Some are designed for RC models (drones/planes/cars) some for emerging electric bikes, scooters and hover boards. Anything from the latter category should suit your needs. Keep in mind that in order to get all the power rated for the motors (usually about 350Wt each) you will also need a proper battery. Wish you luck! Let me know whether you have more questions...

How powerful an ESC would you need to run this if you were to build a Remote Control hoverboard?
@karacupa8 жыл бұрын
The voltage should match your battery. As for the amperage, it depends on the power that you are going to need to drive your board. The heavier the board the more power you will need. You will need power not only to move the wight of the board working against the friction. You will need much more power to balance the board, in the words, applying significant pulses of torque in one or the other direction. Once you figure the power you can tell the amperage rating of your ESC: amps = power / battery voltage

@1:39 the wheel starts and stops because it is driven by a servo tester - a small blue box that has two modes of operation: one mode is when I manually adjust the speed by turning the knob, the second mode is when the tester rump up and down the speed automatically. You do need some sort of brushless DC controller, alternatively you can run these motors using a source of three phase AC of the appropriate voltage (about 50V)
@CatNolara7 жыл бұрын
Your assumptions are totally wrong, the three leads connect all to the ends of a three phase coil system, the sensors are just for sensing the position of the magnets so that the right coils can get turned on or off, although most modern ESCs can work sensorless. Just connecting the motor wires to ground would make the motor lock in one position and heat it up very quickly (might even get damaged).

i bought a 40A esc and it doesnt fit the ports on the segway motor or the battery
@karacupa7 жыл бұрын
If it is a brushless DC motor ESC it should have three outputs. Just connect them to your motor's leads. Swapping any two wires will change the rotation direction.

Привет. Какой принцип подсоединения трех проводов, на них же не достаточно просто подать напряжение с батареи?не разобратся как оно работает

Alexander Kolomietz so its the controller that is only 1 way. also that esc looks a tad small for that motor. my math on a 3s is about 30a draw? is there a lot of heat. I'm building a robomower and these might fit the bill perfectly
@karacupa7 жыл бұрын
I used whatever ESC was around just for the purpose of demonstration. For sure it is too small to drive this motor at full power.

Вам не хватает напряжения. Нужно, как минимум 14В. Попробуйте четыре банки аккумулятора. Не забудьте проверить, что Ваш ESC рассчитан на такое напряжение.

Hey im a noob at these things but could a 12v car battery drive the wheel and would the esc function with it? (Im 10 years old)
@karacupa6 жыл бұрын
One car battery is not enough to drive these motors. You need at least two, better yet, three such batteries connected in series to achieve the required voltage. Make sure your ESC can handle the voltage. Wish you luck

Alexander Kolomietz and one more thing. Do i need some special cells or can i use 4 UltraFire 18650 cells?
@karacupa6 жыл бұрын
I would recommend to bump it up to 10 cells. It will give your about 33V. These motors are rated about 350Wt so your expected current will be just a little bit more than 10A. Make sure that your cells can handle that current.

Sorry. My English is a little weak. What I would like to say; Cancel the hall sensor on the device and connect it throttle instead. How can I do it. Thank you.
@karacupa7 жыл бұрын
The wheel-motor has two hall sensors installed. These are small black plastic components with three leads each glued into the body of the motor. For simple applications where you don't care about precise positioning of the motor, you can ignore them, don't connect to anything, leave the leads opened. They are not needed to drive the motor. Connect three thick wires from the motor' windings to the output of your ESC. That is all you need. Swap any two wires to change the spin direction.
